I just got and setup my robo 3d R1+ last night. I must say so far im extremely happy with the purchase. Printed the calibration Circle and even something from thingverse that came out decent. being completely new I did have a few questions maybe you guys can answer for me.

    1. Is there a way in the MC software where I can raise the extruder head and everything to go to the top, so I can clean the bed decently? and if I ever want to change nozzles this would help, How can I do this? ever

    2. Im not a CAD or Graphic designer at all. However if I had a picture and the proper dimensions of something i i wanted to 3D print, how exactly would I go about doing that?? (Simple methods please )

    3. The files I tried that laid flat on the bed all worked, I did open a thing verse file that seemed to be standing straight up, and it really didnt have a base so I did not see how it was gonna print well from the start, and it didnt, this was my only failed print. What do you do in cases like this? Is there a way to edit the file to make it work?

Thanks for all your help in advance

In Matter Control there is an interface that allows you to control all movement directions manually for what you are wanting to do.
Look under CONTROLS and MOVEMENT and you should see something like this:

If your printer is connected you should be able to click on one Z+ or Z- and move the amount selected in mm (example above shows it will move 10mm with each click).

For creating new models and being new I HIGHLY recommend going to TinkerCad's site:
    https://www.tinkercad.com/
Great site for getting started on CAD type design.

When printing models with little to no base you can ROTATE your modle in Matter Control (and other slicer software).
Trial and error will take you down the road to success.

Some (me for example) use the RAFT option with good luck, others avoid like jury duty.

You can also choose the SUPPORTS option which really sucks badly in Matter Control but that's just the way it is with free software. Sometimes it will work out other times you are stuck with a lot of tough post processing.

Only because removing them can be a pain :)
If you can model around needing it then we do. Sometimes you just can't.

@Rigmarol I thought we talked about those dirty rafts lol.

for cad like Rigmarol says, tinkercad is very easy to get going. When your ready for more "power" (insert Tim Taylors grunts) check out fusion 360. its free for hobbyists, but takes alot of practice.

I have no clue with MatterControl you probably need to experiment. I use the modified honeycomb with Simpify3D.

In Matter Control, regarding supports, whatever I've chosen left me disappointed. Even Cura is only slightly better.
I hear that Simplify3D has much better control over how supports are done but it is not free. I'll move to it one day I'm sure.

@Rigmarol You could also try Slic3r, it has supports much better than Cura, not quite up to S3D standards unless you tweak it a lot, but close.

So is Simplify3D a program that controls your printer instead of matter control?

These programs are called slicers. Yes, S3D and MC and Cura.
