Having built a few of these 3D printers already, I'm pretty impressed with the engineering of this big beauty. I'm looking forward to spending more time printing and less time 'fussing around' with the printer itself.

Having said that, mine arrived with a ton of scratches on the interior of the door (which wasn't covered by protective film) and a broken z-limit switch... so it's not very pretty, and it doesn't work.

    - I've already reached out to Robo support on these two points, but haven't heard back yet... has anyone else had any issues out of the box? I can't even find the metal spring that activates the limit switch, but I'm worried it's somewhere in the bottom of the case, ready to short out the Pi or mainboard... I'll keep looking until I'm sure it ain't there. ;)

I'm pretty sure that the Z limit switch isn't a mechanical switch at all, but is rather a hall-effect switch or IR switch (not 100% sure which one is actually used).

Now, whether it actually functions or not is another story.

Pretty sure its IR, but his picture looks busted regardless.

It is an IR. Not a simplistic one either. Nice switch. The Z HOME (max retract) is mechanical one

    Paul -

Below is a photo of the limit micro-switch on my R2. You can see the spring metal switch lever on the right.

I have the same scuffs on the front door. Caused by abrasion against the cardboard boxes packed tightly inside. I'm going to buy some automotive headlight polishing compound used to restore plastic lenses. Unfortunately this is the kind of thing a manufacturer doesn't always catch on the first production run. I got an early Kickstarter backer $500 discount, so I'm not upset.

I agree with you on the overall engineering and build quality. No comparison to the R1+ I've been using.

Paul, I have the same issues. Horrible scratched inside of door and my z limit switch is missing the metal paddle . On their support and warranty page, there is no option to choose the R2.

Just pick the C2 and then explain in the comments if you can. The switch is the same regardless but the door panel is not.

I was gonna say, that limit switch looks like the same Taiwanese equivalent of the Omron lever switches we use in paintball guns...

Friends, I'm impressed with the level of user support on this forum already... Thank you for jumping in with your knowledge, photos, and advice.

Official support was considerate, but not immediately helpful. Robo will eventually replace both parts, but there is no ETA due to how new this is. I'm also a Kickstarter backer, so I understand how on the edge I am and actually sympathize with the company. I have no complaints, and want them to succeed.

So! I will definitely be polishing the interior door with plastic polish, and will look for my own replacement switch. (Maybe cannibalize my old printer.)

Official support asked me to fab some kind of plastic replacement part where the metal strip would have been, but I might just try to replace it outright.

However this goes down, I'll document and report back.

    Good luck with your gear!

My door also is really scratched up on the inside as well. Almost the same pattern as your door in the image.

I have also requested a new door. Let me know if you hear anything about yours ,and I'll do the same. Nothing yet here.

Actually, Robo 3D sent me two R2 printers by mistake. Perhaps I should check the door on the other printer before scheduling UPS to come get it for return . . . . . . .

I will say this one thing that I always tell my bicycling buddies

    It's a tool, not a jewel!
