Simplify 3D profile for Robo R2

    Any know if there is an existing Simplify 3D profile for Robo R2?

    No, but I can give you one for the C2 :)
    It is not that difficult to make one. We can get you through it

    I contacted them last night, they asked me to send them the Gcode from the test prints and they will make one available, getting ready to do that this evening.

    *Update*
    Just sent them the G-code from the octopi print blocks and the gcode file from the test print. Ill update the thread when I hear back

    yeah i have never had a problem with it - they are quick to respond to support requests. I cant say I have regretted the steep price for the software yet.

    I have no experience with Simplify 3D - been using Cura.

    For the price I paid for the Robo R2 I have no problem spending $150 for a slicer.

    But before I do, what are the primary advantages you've experienced with Simplify 3D ?

    I have to say though the supports are much better than they used to be in this version of cura for robo.. not as good as simplify3d, but not terribad as it was with mattercontrol

    the ability to change infill per layers, the ability to change layer height per chunks etc, you use different factories basically and can stack them on top of each other, its interesting, there are a bunch of YouTube tutorials on that kind of stuff I think. (finer detail for slopes and less detail for vertical slices meaning print time is reduced significantly for larger parts)

    OK - you sold me on Simplify 3D. I'll primarily be making prototype mechanical parts and fixtures - no Yoda heads for me. I like the idea of being able to specify resolution to more critical areas of the part.

    The ability to assign different slice processes to different sections of the build plate means that even with multiple models not only can each model be sliced differently, different sections of each model can be. And that is for a single print GCode being delivered :)

    One big slice that covers a ton of different slicer settings for areas/sections/models. You just can't do that with most.
    That and the support material generation and fact that a 30 second slice is a long one ... :)

    one thing I want to make sure to state is the changes are at a Z level - you cannot do multiple parts of the same model (multiple models yes but same model no) at the same Z level with different processes to my knowlege. meaning you change all properties at that Z level for that model at once (so you cannot make say the teeth of a gear solid but 50% infill the center of the gear)

    Yep, with separate models you can do the different settings at the same Z (well, depending on some other settings) but within a single model (or print region) you have a single process for a given Z.

    Mark - Any way you can get me your Simplify 3D Robo C2 Profile?

    Doubt they can get the R2 added over the weekend. Should just need to change the printer XYZ dimensions, right?

    Pretty much. I do not have the second extruder defined (I don't think) in the Simplify profile

    the latest version has a C2 profile loaded I believe. just in case you want to use that as a base.

    I purchased Simplify3D and picked the RoboC2 version, then changed the XYZ dimensions to match the R2.

    However, the printer now performs the bed leveling twice, and the nozzle is too high by about 0.5mm I guessing.

    The start code in Simplify3D is this:

    G28 ; home all axes

    G1 Z5 F1000 ; lower bed by 5mm

    M565 Z-0.8 ; set z offset

    G29 ; run auto bed leveling routine

    I'm thinking it should only have the G28. Thoughts?
    Where does the first bed leveling action come from? Is that baked into the Robo OS?

    pretty sure it comes from the g-code blocks in the R2 octopi settings. So, you can probably get rid of all but the g28, if it doesnt do the purge stripe at the front of the bed then we know its not getting it from the octopi settings.

    if you plan on driving the printer from the simplify3d with a usb cord though - keep those laying around handy.

    btw - make sure your z-offset is correct in the eeprom.
