What is the HDMI cable used for anyway? Isn't the screen data driven thru the ribbon cable? It's not just video thru the HDMI is it?

I can' answer that. The LCD certainly can be driven by the data port as it is on the C2, but perhaps on the R2 (with the larger screen size) they opted to go with HDMI. Total guess...

Yes, on the R2 video does come over HDMI.

So the ribbon is for power and touch I assume... BTW, are you the same Kilrah over in the Mavic Pro Forum?

In tight situations where it's difficult to plug something like that HDMI cable back in, I use a pair of hemostats from my soldering kit. This will soon be your favorite tool.

Honestly, the solution could be as easy as holding it in there with the hemostats, applying some clear nail polish to hold it there, blow it with a hairdryer until it dries and it's now glued into place. (Just make sure it works first, I suppose.)

In this case it seems some part is actually ripped off from the board.

The picture I saw above looked like the end of an HDMI plug at the very bottom of the image and above it, what could be the HDMI receptacle it fits in. Sorry if I'm misinterpreting this.

One end (the full size HDMI connector) plugs into the Pi, the other end (micro HDMI) plugs into the LCD.

So it's an HDMI adapter for the video. It's a "U" shape so that you can plug the HDMI cable in. Mine got loose and fell out. Robo had asked me to send my printer back in so they can fix it... They say it's too much for me to do it on my own...

Your call. it is a bit harder on the R2 to get that stuff apart, but still you have to decide if you are up to it or not.
Send it back if you don't feel comfortable doing it. No shame there.

It's funny that they don't want to ship out an entire door assembly and have you RMA yours back to them in a return box. (I cringe at the FedEx/UPS gorillas on this round-trip for the whole printer.) Maybe it's not as easy as on the C2.

C2 has no door so yea -- the R2 is a little more complicated.

I've been inside mine so many times, I've got this down to a routine. I should automate this with Amazon Echo: "Alexis: take yourself apart". :D
