Just to let everyone that frequents this forum. One of the moderators @mark tomlinson live within the storm track of Irma. He and his family will be riding out the storm in place, as there simply is no where to go. Fortunately not close enough to the coast to be affected by the storm surge. Not in direct path of the eye wall so hopefully won't be suffering from the highest wind speeds.

Our thoughts are with him, hoping he and his family fair well.

My gf's father lives in Florida and just drove 23 hours to Tennessee. He said it took three hours waiting in line to get gasoline in order to head out.

    Hope things work out, Mark.

@mark tomlinson I hope you are getting through this ok. Let us know if you need help with recovery afterwards.

My dad is in The Villages and taking care of my grandparents in Orlando. Even being inland it's crazy. Friends of our from church have/had a house on the beach of Naples. I'm praying Jose stays clear. Enough is enough.

And it's going through Georgia right now. Seems to be slowing down at least.

We lost one solar panel, everything else is fine :)
We switched to palms from pines after Charlie dropped 7 of them on our house (we really must have pissed on the hurricane people that year).

All good, finally got power and internet back today. Thanks everyone !

Welcome back Mark. Glad to hear damage was at a minimal. Not having power though is tough in Florida. No AC can be brutal with the humidity and heat. Hopefully no more hurricanes for a long long time.

Yup, we learned a long time ago to have a generator and portable A/C :)
I can't power everything, but we can power 13kw which covers enough to live with. Gas generators are not cheap to run long term though (ours can use 15-20 gallons a day) so glad to be off it.

I am not removing the boarding on the windows ... yet. There are two more brewing out there and taking down/putting up the boards is a pain. We are going to upgrade that system after hurricane season this year. There are alternatives out there now that are not such a hassle.

A pic of my neighbors front yard. After Charlie we assassinated all pine trees in our yard.

Trees are great for shade, but when they are big and fall the wrong way...instant sky light. I have a lot of 40+ footers in my yard...I want to take them all down, but my wife loves them.
