    So that pyramid finished printing.

Because I had one lying around, I decided to put an E3D Titan on this printer.

Here it is all mounted up. No special bracketry needed. I did end up calibrating the Esteps to exactly 209.25 instead of the 418.5 in the E3D wiki for it, so that's interesting.

Test Deprime object is printing now, will post the results.

    Is the E stepper motor a 0.9 out a 1.8?

Its a 1.8 degree stepper, checked that first then realized if it was a .9 degree stepper it would double the steps, not halve them.

Would different microstep settings affect it?

Ah well. Still having issues with the filament even with the Titan.

True it would double, but just thought it add to be exactly half.

Hey @daniel871 what was your reason for swapping out extruders?

Had one lying around and wanted to try it. There was nothing "wrong" with the old one.

LOL, That is why my Titan is still in the box, don't fix what isn't broken.

I think 99% of the issues I'm having at the moment have to do with the specific spool of filament I'm trying to use.

$11 spool of "transitional" filament from Makergeeks as a "Why not?" purchase when buying other filament. Supposed to be where they were transitioning from one color to another during their manufacturing process, but so far it's not behaving at all like I expect PLA to behave.

In general have the transitional filaments been okay?

did you check the filament diameter to make sure it is close to being in spec?

This is my first spool of the stuff.

I'm pretty sure @Geof also bought a spool to play with and hated it.

EDIT: Just swapped in a spool of Makergeek's regular Maker PLA and it's gone further than the transitional spool with the same settings. May just be a shit spool.

I got 3 spools in that deal. The abs ran ok but had 2 or 3 jams to out of spec. Out of spec only lasted a few feet max. Haven't gotten to the petg spools yet.

I hated their raptor pla. I bought 3 spools of that stuff (new, not transitional) and it just sucks

Updated mounting of the Titan using one of those stepper dampeners from the old R1 back when I tried to make it quieter (LOL).

In this use-case, it is acting purely as a spacer so that the gear on the stepper shank can get the set screw onto the flat proper (had some slippage in the original mounting configuration I was using).

Will re-try the Raptor PLA after printing this regular PLA and making the Three Wise Monkey set here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:150481

but is it quieter? hahaha....yeah that is a good idea. Seeing how it would have been mounted without the "spacer" would have made things a bit more difficult.

It's less "quieter" and more "the pitch of the noise has changed/lowered".

Now I'm having an issue where the extruder stepper just... stops... while printing. Not stripping out, because I can manually spin the Titan drive gear and make it extrude while the printer is running. Just stopping. And yes, when I spin the Titan gear the shank on the motor spins along with it.

Opening the bottom up to see if there are any visible issues at the control board, then I'll look at swapping in another extruder motor (ugh).

I'm not having any temp drops triggering a temp fall error in S3D (which should stop the print anyway), but I figure I might as well look and see if the heatsink on the stepper drivers fell off or something.

    EDIT:

Okay, so, opened the bottom up and the case fan is basically blowing at the bottom of the heat bed instead of across the control board. I'm going to get a 60mm blower fan and mount it so that it is pointing at the control board side of the electronics enclosure and then try again.

I'm pretty sure that the problem with running the Titan is that it runs so many more steps/mm than the stock setup (going from only 48.5steps/mm on the stock extruder to 209.25 steps/mm on the Titan) that the driver ends up overheating after only a few minutes of extruding during thick layer runs, so the signal to the stepper just gets dropped/stops but there is no error feedback to the system to halt the print.

Okay, I need some help figuring this out. Here is a recap.

Problem - The extruder on my MP Mini Delta basically just stops extruding mid-print after ~20-30 minutes. Printer doesn't seem to notice and continues moving through the motions of the program running.

    Confirmed symptoms:

-Motor is not locked up or stripping filament, I can reach up and turn the motor by hand (basically spinning the larger gear on the Titan) and cause material to extrude from the hotend, but the motor has apparently given up and just sits idle. Yes, the shank spins with the larger gear so everything is assembled correctly there.

-There is still power going to the motor because after I cancel the print job I can use the terminal in S3D/the menu on the LCD to tell it to extrude/retract and the stepper will turn.

-The stepper is cool to the touch both during operation and when when it decides to stop working.

-Checked logs in Simplify3d using it to monitor prints and there are no errors in the Communication log when the extruder stops. No Mintemp or Temp Fall errors, nothing.

    Steps taken so far:

-Replaced actual stepper motor with another motor first, same issue continues.

-Replaced generic case fan in bottom of printer that blew air up and into the bottom of the heated bed with blower fan that blows air across the control board/heatsinks on the drivers that are off to one side in the base of the machine, appears to have made no difference other than the machine being quieter while running.

-Various print settings. Different temps, different retraction settings, disabled retraction altogether, etc.
*The machine is not clogging because I can manually extrude during a print and issue extrude commands outside of a print job and have the motor turn and material extrude as expected with no visual cues of a partial/total clog.
