Bed heating on v2 of R2

    I’d love to understand if an error on the bed heating element caused this (too much current), or if this is what caused the bed to stop working (by breaking connection / cutting off supply of current).

    Either way, it seems like these cables and the connector are not rated correctly.

    Both 7.5A and 15A fuse were OK on the motherboard.

    That makes me want to double-check my connector. It the connector is making too little contact it could cause a situation where the connector will overheat trying to draw the current it needs to heat the bed. They used more than a single wire for the feed especially to lower the amperage each single wire carries.

    Six wires are used to carry current to the bed, the last two to the thermistor. Three positive and three negative (ground) wires.

    This is too similar to the old RAMPS connector heated bed issue.. I have raised this with @Jerry RoBo 3D to follow-up on.

    Thank you for sharing those pictures. That really helps explain it. It looks like the connector pins weren't making a solid connection and started to arc. which then heated the plastic and melted. We will need to send you a new bed and new cable.

    Ok. Do you think there could be a better solution for stain relief in the current setup? It appears there is always some pressure on the connector due to the angle of approach for the cable bundle, even with the fold to move it to the right.

    Here are some closeups for the other customers to refer to. Notice that the current related heat burned up the heater bed cable connector so bad, it actually split. Also, note the markings under the related pins on piece from the underside of V2 of the bed (which I removed and replaced).

    Robo will make me whole again, but I wanted others to see what could happen.

    This is why it is advised to always monitor your machine :D dont let it run unattended. Smoke alarm and fire extinguisher (there are ones that will not hurt your machine when used) are a must. Safe, not sorry :D.

    This is with ALL brands, not just Robo. I have machines upwards of 5K that I still have smoke alarms and fire extinguishers at the ready and dont leave unattended when possible.

    It is nice and I have actually had it trip a few times. Nothing major, just filament being filament, but it does work.

    well our server rooms used Halon :)
    Yes, CO2 is the preferred one for most electronics stuff

    You dont have the Co2 extinguisher hanging in there ? THEY DONT MAKE YOU? I kinda hate Illinois some days :D lol. Had an energen system (expensive enough right?) nope...had to have a Co2 at both doors and one at the end of each rack (the room wasn't very big lol)

    So kind of off topic, but now my neurons are firing. If the fire starts inside the bottom of the R2, in the area with the Rasp Pi, would it choke itself off, or would a fire extinguisher be ineffective until the fire breaches the walls of the unit (or top)?
