I build this hood from foam board to help hold in some heat when printing ABS, although, it looks more like a hat, really.

I found when printing the first few layers with ABS, the print bed is very close to the open top, and most of the heat slips out causing the item to curl and come unattached from the bed.

I've had success with this. Only done one ABS print, but it printed successfully, after failing twice before in the same physical location in the room.

I'll need to keep an eye on trapped heat, and may place a vent somewhere. Either below in the electronics bay, or someplace, but this is the first go at it.

    Todd

    Todd,
I've been toying around with the same thing. Although your foam board idea is way cheaper, easier, and less time consuming than what I was planning on. I think I will do the same thing for my R2. But I have a question......what did you use in addition to the foam board? Plastic sheeting of some kind, or did you use some stiff acrylic sheets?

    from amazon cut to fit.

Thanks, I assumed it was something like that. I found 5 sheets (12" x 12") of 1/8" acrylic on eBay for $20, so I bought those to use. I'll send you a pic of the hood once it is finished, but it will be a while.

For some reason, the post above won't let me add a link to my model:(
If you want to find it, it's on GrabCad, just search for Robo R2 Chamber Cover.

I think you need to hit a minimum number of posts first :)

You could slice it into quadrants and print it yourself, or outsource to a company like Shapeways or Xometry, etc..

If you could slice it that would be awesome! I'd be happy to do a test print! I'm thinking clear PETG!

How did you attach this? I think I'm going to print this out myself.
