Should I disassemble all the metal parts? Nozel, fin section, heat break and block?

I take the cold end off and heat the jam out. Typically its in the heartbreak (throat between the cold end and heater block)

This is the culprit. I prob shouldn't even attempt to separate it until after I heat it up. Should I have the break facing up or down. So the plastic can just drop out.. [IMG][IMG]

Put it in a pan with the break facing down and stick it in the oven at 550 F (or broil) and it will run out.

A small convection oven is perfect, but if you don't have one a regular oven is fine (just takes longer to heat up)

Don't ever take a torch to your hotend with a brass nozzle still attached. Brass has a fairly low melting point.
    I know.

Yea, 550 F -> 287 C so that will melt most filament enough to clear you up :)

My small convection only goes to 450. I will have to use my regular oven..

Good enough as it will probably still melt out the filament. 450F = 232.2C
Unless it is ABS or a nylon that will melt it

*progress report* got everything separated. No plastic in the block so that tells me I had a good seal between the break and the nozzle. I can run a thin wire cleanly through the nozzle now. The break is being a little more difficult. How wide is the opening supposed to be of the end that goes into the block??
    *edit*
Looks like the break is nice and clear done. I am done for tonight. Will re-assemble tomorrow and try again. LOL. I ordered another V6 kit just on case. I was thinking about returning it. Or would it be worth keeping for spare parts??

I keep few spare E3Ds on the shelf- assembled and ready to go- and swap them into a printer that jams. Gets me up and running right away and can clear the jam from the original part while my prints are going. Totally up to you as to how you want to stock spares :D

Well I finished my first print after the chaos and all seems better.. I tried printing this fan shroud for the parts fan. But the nozzle seems to sit right next to the brass nozzle. So I am cautious that it will cool the nozzle instead of the part. This is the part I printed.

I wanted to thank everybody for all of your help. I am back up and running. I do have another question about printing smaller
Pieces. But I think everybody is sick of me right now LoL...

If you have installed the E3D v6 then that is the correct fan shroud. If you still have the stock Hexagon that is not the right one.

I am trying to print some small detailed items (knobs for a prop) but it seems like my printer is having an issue printing such small pieces. Not sure what settings I should change. ( are items from thingiverse normally optimized?)
