Partially Solved Arduino fried?

    yeah, with help from the picture I provided, i forgot to apply the jumpers... would that cause it to be FUBAR?

    thats the way i thought of going about it... i really can't afford to kill electronics for testing as i have little money because i am a student.

    The control the microstepping. You want all of them (3 per driver) installed.

    so it wouldn't immediately fry the board if i forgot them it'd just be really choppy?

    Correct, leaving them off is totally fine electrically. You would lose resolution

    If you bought the all-in-one kit and got a bum RAMPS that is a surprise, but not unheard of.
    The individual cards I bought off of Amazon were totally a crap shoot (as in out of 4, 3 were bad)

    would a high resistance say 20 ohms be enough to kill they system?

    About the easiest way would be to pull it. Or swap it for another one.

    i did a continuity test all of them showed a little Besides one. before a called that one the problem i tested a new one and it also showed no continuity... is it possible all but one died?

    Sorry, I am not clear on exactly what you are testing with the stepper driver (that is what you are testing, right?).
    There is not a lot that is easy to test with the drivers. Resistance is not terrible useful (they are current drivers).

    While it may sound trite the easiest way to test a stepper driver is to use it on the RAMPS to drive a known good stepper motor.
    So if the X driver is working and the Y driver is suspect, swapping the X for the Y to see if the problem moves is the easiest way to test them. There is a calibration and testing rig you can make and use for the stepper drivers, but it is a fair amount of effort to expend for a $2 card :) (I can point it out to you if you want)

    honestly I just cut my losses and out an new set for 8dollars will keep you posted when I get them installed

    THEY WORKED! ... I think... I kept testing as I plugged bits in but the arduino suddenly popped when I tried it with the end stops plugged in. How are they supposed to go?

    bad news i put them on the top pins. good news i know i did something wrong now and think i got the fix. ill let you know tomorrow thanks for all the help so far!
