To anyone out there I had a problem with the filament getting stuck in the hot end of my robo r1 + 3d printer and so I bought a new one online that supposedly would fit. But it doesn't and I would like to know if there is something I can do to use the new hot end I bought with changing the setup on my printer . Any advice would be extremely appreciated to this first time owner of a 3d printer.

It is a wider hot end and it is longer (slightly) but that is all that I know

The hot end is wider than the mount which held the original got end that was installed

Then it may not be an E3D v6, because the real E3D is exactly the same size as the hexagon used in the R1+ except for (1) the "neck" being slightly longer and (2) the length being slightly different. That means you need a thicker quick-release plate or the hotend is too loose and you need a slightly modified parts cooling fan mount to aim it correctly -- other wise it is a drop-in fit mechanically.

There are a lot of Chinese clone "E3D" knockoffs. If it was really cheap compared to what E3D charges -- you may have gotten a knock-off

It was more expensive than the standard e3d v6 hot end

The original hot end was a hexagonal shaped unit and the one that I got was a round unit that is wider than the original.

    Post some pictures.

If you review the thread I linked you to that talks about installing an E3D you can see what needs to happen (and what an actual E3D looks like). If it totally does not fit into a stock extruder carriage then likely it is not an E3D.

Yes they are different shapes. We really need pictures of what your issue is. The E3D is not that different in size and this has been done (and documented in that thread) Perhaps something new is showing up, but -- pictures will help

    Hexagon
    Versus the E3D

That appears to be a real E3D so some pictures of what isn't working would be a good step. Again, review the thread I linked for the E3D upgrade since most questions/issues are going to be already covered in there and you might get the answer quicker :)

Just as a thought, if it's a lost cause what would you recommend for a good replacement printer that isn't too expensive?

I always suggest an E3D because they always work :)
I mean you can get a generic Hexagon and mod that back in (the connectors are usually different). As long as you match the correct style of Hexagon for the R1 series (12v -- not 24v) you can use that They can be had from Amazon or other 3D printer parts sources (reprap, etc)
