Printer bed and Extruder crashing

    Hi,

    The issue started today, on giving the command for fine-tune settings from the LCD screen, the auto-leveling is done. But then the bed goes down to its 0 zero position and then when it comes back on top it clashes with the extruder and doesn't stop!!.

    The IR sensor is blinking when I place my finger underneath. So I guess thats, not the problem.

    Please help!!

    Will need more information. When you did the Z Offset wizard, what was the distance displayed upon finishing the wizard?
    Are you still using the factory hot-end?

    Bed crashing into the nozzle = ir sensor not actuated, if your offset is less than the min read distance in the IR firmware settings it seems to ignore it and thus crashes into the hot end

    Also, the color of the bed surface matters (on the C2 at least it does). If you change it from black, leveling will just no longer work correctly. I even had to go find black painters tape for that very reason ;)

    I am presuming that @Alvin Jacob has a relatively new R2 printer and is not the sophisticated 3D printing guru like @WheresWaldo , @Geof or @mark tomlinson . (A Tip of the hat to you gents).

    @Alvin Jacob , have you tried using the bed leveling procedure posted to the beginning of this Troubleshooting area?

    Just a point of interest, I noticed that after changing the hot-end of my R2 printer, the Octoprint parameters still showed the old Z offset instead of the newly calibrated Z Offset. I'm wondering if that might be a factor in some of the head crash threads posted here. A simple reload of the EEprom parameters fixed it.

    Possibilities:
    IR sensor malfunctioning as suggested by @Geof
    A bad build plate surface as suggested by @mark tomlinson
    A SDCard corruption of the software due to improper power off
    An Octoprint error as suggested by myself
    A Z axis end stop sensor coming loose.
    A Marlin firmware parameter corruption

    Many thanks for the responses, Unfortunately, I had to stop working on the R2 printer presuming the crash.

    Yes, that's right, it does do this sometimes. The trial and error method is not the go-to method at the current age of technological advancement. It's really a pain.

    Usually if old settings are remembered it is because they are stored in the Printer Mainboard EEPROM, after setting it make sure you store the new settings using the M500 command from the terminal screen.

    @Alvin Jacob , Have you resolved the head crashing yet? If not:

    Assuming that you have a stock R2 printer, I would recommend that you flush the firmware settings with A M502 followed by a M500. Then follow the bed leveling procedure at the beginning of the this Troubleshooting area. Also check the Buildtak surface of the print bed. Gouges in the surface can throw off the calculations of the auto-leveling routine during the Fine Tune Z Offset procedure.

    I went through the bed leveling procedure at the beginning of the this Troubleshooting area.
    http://airtripper.com/1799/marlin-firmware-home-offset-guide-using-g-code-m206/ . At step 3, when i give the command G1 Z0, the bed
    is crashing with the nozzle.
    What am I doing wrong here?

    The Z setting is always negative. Being negative has to do with the physical construction of the hot-end gantry. If you insist with using the instructions at the link, try starting with a -20 value (G1 Z-20) and go from there.

    This. 0 is not “home” because the ir needs space to trigger. 0=crash

    I set the Z offset to -6.85. It was saved in the EEPROM. Checked in the printer and the code. BUT when I give the command for Fine tune offset from the LCD, again the same thing is happening. Crash!!

    I am sorry but something is fishy with either the printer or the marlin software.
