I wouldn't do 310, 100k thermistors aren't reliable there. I believe the 5 thermistor is the Semitec 104GT-2, so yes.

You can print the fan holder without a cooling fan no problem. The stock fan holder won't fit with the E3D

Once I receive mine I'm going to test fit it in my old extruder carriage. Haven't modeled it in yet

Good point - with V6 being shorter but also slimmer, there's a chance the original fan holder might still work...

If you are printing in PLA with a 50C bed temp then it should be no problem. With ABS and a >100C bed you could overheat.

I ordered the v6 and am waiting for it to arrive. Is it best to keep the original thermistor or change to the new one provided?

Use the original. They're both the same and using the original gives you the spare in case you damage the original. Trust me, I've ruined at least 3 semitec so far, they're fragile.

Let me make sure i have everything straight to change out my hot end.

    1. Print new fan mount (might not need for v6)
    2. remove old hot end
    3. place new e3d hot end in place. (change m3 x 20mm screw to a socket cap to avoid stripping)
    4. wire always on fan and hot end
    5. change firmware Configuration.h file to say - Heater_0 max temp to 295
    6. change temp sensor to 05 if using new one (do nothing if using same sensor)

    Done

Ha, interesting indeed! I have to try the seasoning trick myself, as I've been having similar symptoms with PLA...

I was having all sorts of problems with the e5D and was about to give up on it. Was printing ok with ABS but blocking with pla. I did the seasoning trip which seemed to work for a while. What I have now is an oiler on the line.
basically a bit of sponge with a small amount of canola oil in it. removes any dust but also puts a small coat of oil on the filament which has worked a treat. Since I have put it on I have printed about half a roll of PLA with not one blockage.

People were doing this with the Replicator 2 at one point. I thought it was because of the bad initial extruder design (no pinchwheel, it used a 'low friction plug' to keep pressure on the hob) but maybe it was for seasoning.

Robb, very low tech approach. A bit of sponge in a cut off plastic tube of moisturiser. Works for me. IMG_4456.jpg

I wonder if it's possible to use the original heatsink and thermistor on my e3dv6 the original heatsink can reach above 300°C like the heatsink provided with the e3d ???

I ask this question because if it's possible i can keep the other piece if there is some damage.

The v5 heatsink/heatbreak combo will work with the v6 Heater block and nozzle.

The v6 should have no problem reaching 300+. i believe team E3D got it to like 420C to print thermoplastics
