    Yup. The whole point of this carriage design is that it's modular and quick to swap in different designs.

    Some people are ok with a honda civic. Some people wanna see if their civic can beat a corvette without spending the money on a corvette

    Yup, aluminum is a stronger foundation to work off of, and should make everything more rigid. If I'm gonna get some more speed out of this thing I need to make it more rigid. The aluminum base is sort of the starting point, and the foundation of the printer.

    This replaces the black acrylic middle plate

    Are you using real lead screws or M8 rods

    They're 10mm x 2mm pitch lead screws

    I don't think it's necessary and opens up a whole can of worms.

    Not sure if it's what the makerbot uses. Seems like it might be

    yes it is. Kinda a long story but it's a custom camera that I designed an enclosure for the y axis rails
