I've got a few of these in stock if anyone is trying to hunt them down. I hear they've sold out from most sources.

$57 for the eruption kit. That includes 4 nozzles, the heat break, heater cartridge, thermistor, and fittings. It is an add on to an existing E3d.

After my Cyclops ships and I've had it for a while, I plan on getting a v6 hotend and volcano and converting the Cyclops into a half-mega Chimera.

Especially for big prints, or just using the volcano for the infill so it's much faster.

By the way, just in case anyone is curious, this upgrade will fit onto the hexagon as well. I'm thinking of making that change on one of my robos.

So I know it is early, but has anyone tried the conversion to Volcano? Where you able to get an overall improvement in speed with matched quality? The reason I ask, is that some threads have noted having to slow the Robo down in speed to maintain good print quality with normal hot ends. So with the Volcano can we truly run it faster or not on the Robo specifically?

    Hats off to E3D.

The volcano doesn't let you run your printhead any faster. It does allow you to extrude material at a higher rate while moving the printhead at the same time, thus getting to shorter overall print times. For example, if you take a 0.8mm volcano nozzle compared to a 0.4mm standard nozzle, you are able to lay down twice as much material in the same time at the same layer height.

Only time I have had to slow down is when bringing down the resolution to a finer detail (increasing the resolution--bringing down the layer size).

@Printed Solid Thank you ;) For the explanation.

It will work with the V5 or V6. There's not really anything to show. You can refer to @Mike Kelly 's guide for the V6. Only difference is that the heater block is oriented differently and the nozzles are longer. This gives more heat transfer to the block and a longer melt zone to more efficiently handle the large diameter extrusions.

Keep in mind that you can put larger nozzles on a standard E3D or hexagon without the volcano. the main advantage of using the volcano is that increased heat transfer.

I have been meaning to do a blog post on the wonders of large diameter nozzles though. Will try to get that done soon.

@Printed Solid. Just ordered my volcano.
With that, it might be worth having an option with a e3d v6 and volcano option at a discounted price over buying them separately Specifically, offering the E3D V6 heat sink, fan mount, heat break + Volcano. This would save on not needing the standard e3d v6 nozzle, heater block, thermistor and heater, since those are replaced with the Volcano pack. Just a thought.

That would be largely up to E3D to offer.

For the early release, I was only able to get a hold of a handful of full upgrade kits that I didn't want to part out, but I can offer something like that in the future.
I should really offer an E3D option using the stud thermistor instead of the stock because so many people break them.

That would have been awesome, I would have gone that route since I was upgrading everything all at once.
