Partially Solved Shifting Layers in Y axis

Hey guys,
I having shifting layers and I can't seem to figure out why. Printing ABS at 230 and bed 80. Here are some photos

 

Most likely a loose belt. Do you have a tensioner on your x axis?

 

If it doesn't come with one from the factory then no, if it does come with one from the factory then yes. What would this schroedinger's piece of hardware look like?

I mean the tension seems pretty good. The bottom segment has a slightly higher twang than the top but neither are deep toned.

 

A jump one direction like that is usually caused by a belt skip.

It could also be because the nozzle clipped on the print and caused it to torque stall and lose position. This seems much less likely because of the multiple skips.

 

ok, So how tight should this sucker be? And what the best way to get it there. I feel like this shouldn't be an issue on a brand spankin new printer but alas, I hear that this is the world of 3d printing.

 

Just a click or 2 tighter. Not too tight it's tense but tight enough it doesn't skip. Hard to say for certain.

 

ok I'll have to find my pliers and try to click it more, cuz I cant pull it by hand

 

Don't force it. It could also be the part clipping issue.

 

idk why it would be clipping the part. How would I fix that?

 

Try again in a different orientation to rule out that variable.

 

how would a different orientation rule out part clipping? wouldnt it just clip in a different axis then?

 

yes... meaning its not an x/y axis prob. its your z axis.

 

Exactly. Then we'd know it wasn't the belt but an issue with the model and/or hot end.

 

ok, I'm going to try rotating it so instead of it laying side to side it lays kitty corner. Is that what you mean?
