Partially Solved Shifting Layers in Y axis

    ok guys heres a pic of a first layer with shifting. I think its still along the x so I am gonna try tightening the belt. IMG_2040.JPG IMG_2042.JPG

    That first pic tells the tale. You can see the shift right in the middle of one row. It is jumping up/down (relative to the photo) which I think is Y (I don't have the same bed/logo)

    X is the carriage movement (left/right) and Y is the bed movement (front/back)

    ok I see what you are saying. I will try to figure out how to tighten the y.

    ok I tightened her up. Was pretty easy, you just remove the screw and then it pops out of this little plastic piece, shorten the length and restick it in there. Hope I didnt over tighten. Gonna give it a go. Will update with pics.

    Over tightening the Y will result in binding so if it is still moving smoothly you are probably OK. A notch (or two at the most) is all you need normally.

    Ok so it just happened again. Over glass so I can't imagine that it is clipping anything. When it happens it makes this kinda dadadadada noise. Any ideas? sorry the photo is rotated on its side but its moving up in the y. HOT ZONE is the far back of the plate when looking down on it. IMG_2043.jpg

    That's an X shift not a Y shift.

    The noise indicates binding.

    It definitely is. Lines up perfectly.

    Why are you printing it at an angle anyways? The Y axis is 254mm while the X is only 220 so it would fit fine.

    no Its a y shift the pic is sideways. The shift moved straight back on the board.

    Thanks for the binding comment tom. I loosened it up two clicks from where I had tightened it. I am printing the dog tag right now and it seems to be have gone well. IMG_2044.jpg

    And this is why I am not printing lengthwise on the y. For some reason the machine thinks the center of the bed is higher than it really is and prints above the heated area. I even tried moving the print down in mattercontrol and it still prints high. IMG_2045.jpg

    The graphics really mean nothing.

    The heated zone is really an 8.2" square and if you want to locate it heat up the bed and wipe it down with a wet paper towel.

    well it sticks inside the square and not on the portion out of it lol which is why I didnt like it that way.

    How you orient the print (assuming the dimensions still fit) should not make the print fail.
    Getting it off the heated portion of the bed might...
    For the initial issue there was a belt skipping somewhere. (X or Y) tightening is the right approach.
    And the reverse is true for the binding :)

    You should not need to tweak the tension often once you get it set correctly.

    So far my print appears to be going well. No binding or shifting in the first or second layer. Will update when print finishes or fails. Whichever happens first lol Adjusting the y belt seemed to do the trick tho and I think may have been a large source of my print fails.
