Plus 2 ebay bolts from Cambo's source. Building a Reprap with the extra one.

Wow. Now I'm set. Glass, hairspray, Garolite, nylon, PLA, ABS, dehumidifier, Cricut spatula, metal hotend, heat shrink, cable clamps, various STLs for mods... and a fine hobbed bolt... wait. Missing something.
    Oh yeah, the printer.

Just got my hobbed bolt yesterday and installed it. It needs to go in from the opposite side but the washer they supply let you line it up very nicely. Total time to do was less than 5 minutes.

Got mine today and installed it.... It didn't extrude the filament. I think it may be designed for 3mm filament. I had to reinstall the original hobbed bolt.... very disappointing because I'm having major issues with filament coming out the side of the extruder...

interesting, what is it doing then? is it stripping the filament? or not making contact with the filament at all?
i haven't tried tried this on my own printer as stated before but the dimensions are correct for fit.

can you post a pic of your hobbed bolt installed and the hobbed bolt itself. did you install it with the nut on the opposite side? those hobbs are pretty much universal unless the one you got was only made for 3mm. Which means it may have a deeper groove.

here is a photo of the ebay bolt in my other extruder with 1.75 filament. (same one that I pulled the hobb out to use with my robo)..

hmm makes me want to try this hobb bolt now.. The one I pulled out to replace the robo hobb has been working flawlessly..

It just wont grab the filament. it spins with out extruding... Everything is lined up... just wont extrude.... Went back to my factory hobb for now.

Well now I'm nervous I might have wasted a few bucks on this hobbed bolt. Did you get yours from the ebay source as well JDM?

Looking at it the groove section is .125mm wide with the recess as .01mm deep. I'm surprised that isn't working for you. How tight are the filament tensioners? Perhaps there's some galling in your nozzle that's causing it to jam?

i suspect you still have jamming issues in your hot end from before that haven't been completely resolved. Using another hobb wont fix this problem.

If you haven't already, completely dissemble your hot end and check the ptfe liner/internal parts. Your ptfe liner may be damaged causing increased extrusion pressure, jamming, etc...

HI JDM I put mine in and it worked right away I am not sure how yours is oriented but I had to switch the direction of the bolt but starting from the bolt head here is the order Ihave everything in

    Bolt head
    larger gear
    5 washers
    passes through one bearing
hobbed area is pretty much aligned with hole
    passes through another bearing
    last washer
    two nuts
original lock nut (came with ROBO) just to make sure it is all locked down

IS this the same order you have your hobbed bolt in

This is how I had it. I'm going to try it again when my E3D hot end arrives in a few days.
