Ah, I have the standard head of the R1. I might try taking one off

 

Yeah, the J Head is bad. Wrap the heater block with kapton tape, say 5 or so layers, to help insulate it.

 

I recommend making the custom nuts from 6mm aluminum rod for the bracket too. They make it helps better.

 

Is there any place that sells small pieces of kapton tape? I can only find expensive stuff of a few meters long... EDIT: I found some on Ebay, now I just have to find someone with a creditcard, but thanks!

 

Could also try smearing some RTV all round it, but good luck if you ever wanted to take it off.

 

I get my kapton tape from eBay from China. Takes a while but is very cheap.

 

Something I've been working on, the Robo Cage. It will provide numerous mounting points for all sorts of things, including an enclosure, rod stabilizers, spool mounts, lights, camera, multiple extruders, etc.

 

Looks OK but what is the purpose of just making a cage?

I would like to make a bigger bed and higher printing capabilities. Extend the rods and make a bigger bed to print on.

With that cage it's only cosmetic and not really functional. Doesn't really make for a better printer until you extend something.

 

I'm with peter. Raise up the smooth rods/threaded rods and support it off the frame.

Looks pretty nice but it could be useful as well.

Galaxius, how do you mounted the extruder fan. Is there any mount available.
I have a 30x30x10 mm fan.

 

My extruder fan is a 40x40x10 mounted to the side of the x carriage with a single screw. Check back through the thread and you should find a pic.
