Is there a way to know the actual size of the print before starting the print job?
i'm using Matter Control now but will change to a better software if there is one.

The model view give you that in Simplify3D (in whatever units the model is). See the Calculated properties...

I can't speak for MC, I seem to recall Repetier had similar layout view, but I would need to install a current version to be sure.

You just put the STL in the library, move your curser over it and click view. You then click on EDIT below image. Then click on size at the upper right. It will give you met or inches. You can change the image print size by ratio or unlock the L/W/H and change just one.
You can also create a copy or copies and print several at one time. You can even print several at different sizes.
    Enjoy, Frankn

I have been using both Cura and Matter Control to look at stl files while I decide what to print.

Click on the object, and select the Scale symbol lower left and Cura gives sizes in x,y, and z axis.

Maybe it was a metric to SAE conversion issue? Simplify will auto-convert those when it detects it.
Or MC could just have been lost in space.
