I needed more storage space, and had a spare laptop HD and SATA to USB cable laying around. This is one of my first attempts a creating something from scratch.

Hopefully this helps some folks who are just getting started.

    Feedback is appreciated!

Very cool, one suggestion, redesign it with vent holes. A spinning HDD generates a lot of heat and that will kill any drive you put in there. So cut out some holes.

They sell 2.5" external hard drives without any venting and they seem to last fine, I have several still going strong after many years.
3.5" drives on the other hand do get pretty hot.

Yea I have a bunch of external hard drives. they are all fully enclosed...from factory. most are laptop sized. I like to buy the 2TB enclosed from best buy and rip the stock case apart and shove the drive in my Playstation 4's... this is cool as im a spaz and usually ruin the case it came in but its nice to put the "old" drive back into the enclosure.so that i still have an external HD. now I can just print a new drive case if I was spazed out..

Obviously you can do what you want, it was just a suggestion.
