I thought you had posted a before and after shot last time (in your own thread) but durned if I could find it.

Suffice it to say that the inconsistencies in the Z layers are gone with this upgrade, that is the point.

Unfortunately I did not. I was way to excited to do a before and after print.

Mine wobble all over the place, but the smooth rods keep things from going crazy. Either way it is leaps and bounds better than the coupler setup on the original design.

Exactly. They don't provide any horizontal movement.

I finally have all the parts in for mine (switches, rods, etc) and am just waiting to finish the DLP project before doing this one.
Just in case I need to use this one for something and it is (god forbid) still broke :)
    I want one working printer....

That looks beautiful and much better than what I'm seeing. Did you have a lot of ribbing before that?

I've installed my lead upgrade kit over the weekend. It looks like the lead screws have a slight bend in them. Its better than it was, but is a bit disappointing seeing the wobble after getting them installed. I converted my beta to a R1, so its also pretty nice being able to use the factory R1 firmware now.

The wobble is not a problem unless it is huge, remember the rods control only the lift. The smooth rods keep everything in line.
Still, it would be nice if they were straighter I agree.
I am also converting my beta over as well, yay.

Its not a huge problem, but it does cause some squealing on long z axis moves.

Just make sure they are lubricated.

So... I'm a little confused. Does the Robo lead screw update kit solve the ribbing or just reduce it? Would it be better (or cheaper) to roll your own solution like others did?

@jediknight0 It would be cheaper to 'roll your own', but I can't tell you if it would be better.

The robo steppers are also 350mm and TR8*4 thread pitch.

Usually the ones you find come stock at TR8*8, and around $30-40 from china with $20-30 shipping. IE: http://robotdigg.com/product/31

It would save a bit of money to go this route but it adds some more complexity that most people don't want to deal with. The robo swap was very painless and only took around an hour, maybe less.

Integrated lead screws solve the Z ribbing assuming they're not bent.

Those ball screws are far too nice for a 3d printer lol
