Lead Screw Upgrade Kit

    I received the new lead screws today and just finished installing them / flashing the firmware. I've got everything assembled except putting the top and my self-printed feet back on the printer.

    I ran through some quick tests to make sure I could move / home all the axis and the Z axis makes a very load rumble / vibration... much loader than before. I'm afraid to use it now for fear of waking the kids in the next room. Is this normal? Do others with the lead screw update find a lot of vibration / noise with movement on the Z axis?

    Mine aren't any louder, probably quieter. Does it need lubrication maybe?

    Perhaps. What part should I lubricate... the shaft going into the hex nuts or the shaft going into the motor itself? Is white lithium the preferred lubricant for these?

    The lead screw shaft. And white lithium is good

    I added a liberal amount of lithium and moved the x-carriage up & down a few times... no difference.

    It's making a vibration / grinding noise... any other thoughts? I'm wondering if one of the motors is defective...

    Might need to adjust the current on the stepper drivers. I can't tell just from text. Would need to hear/see it

    I took off the top and unattached the screws from the x-carriage. By themselves , the screws/motors turn freely & quietly. With the x-carriage resting on the hex bolts, there's the same noise but a little less.

    I also notice that the screws don't seem perfectly straight... they wobble back and forth about 2mm (both of them, but they wobble in nearly opposite directions.

    Pull out the lead screws. Hold the motor body against the table and spin the threaded rod, Look at the end to see if it wobbles at all or spins straight.

    Did some more tests. With either hex nut seated in the x-carriage I hear the grinding / vibration noise.

    I tested one motor. I held it against the table and spinning the threaded rod, I see it wobble about 2mm back and forth. Holding the rod itself against the table, the rod seems straight. It's like the rod was inserted into the motor at an angle.

    Submit a replacement part request with robo then. That sucks though, sorry

    That looks great. Is the white piece on the first pic from the old leadscrews? HUGE improvement if so. Glad it worked out for you. Happy printing.

    Yes, the white piece was printed with helical couplings, they appeared as if they were almost perfectly straight, but the ribbing still occured. Now it's all gone! Gone is adding extra 0.6mm for tolerances when creating projects!

    I hear you on that. My leadscrew nuts on my old set were actually drilled and tapped off center. I think that was my biggest issue with z ribbing. I thought about getting new nuts to try, but the new TR8*4 screws are far better overall.
