The slot is fine. There is no downside to using the one with the slot.

You can always do a quick design and print to patch that big ol slot. Too bad they didn't send you a brand new plate. It must have been from some scrap machines they have in the pile.

I'm picturing a massive pile of Robo3D R1 corpses in a ditch somewhere in China that these parts are being taken from.

You can't normally see the slot. It will have no negative effect... ignore it :)

I know a lot of people have mentioned that it's not a stressed component but i could tell with my longer/heavier bed that the acrylic plate was definitely the weak point. I made an aluminum plate and used 10mm rails and bearings and it has worked awesome for me. The Z rods even have less play with it and it gives the bed more support. I would like to eventually make one for my other machine but haven't justified it yet.

Don't suppose you have any extra aluminum plates around that someone could buy... do you? ;-)

Are you going to post the design files for that? I'd also be interested in those rod ends.

I wouldn't mind getting one of those when I get an extended bed working.

I don't have any extra aluminum plates, I got a quote to get 10 water jetted but didn't figure i could sell them so i just got the one made.

I will get all the files round up and post them somewhere. I have .stl files for 8mm and 10mm ends and a stp file for the middle plate.

I wouldn't mind getting those files if you'd be kind enough to post :D. I"m finally getting around to having my local machine shop quote up water jetting a few plates for me, but ya know....STL files just wont work lol. Stp might be better for them.

I have the DXF file for the plate which is more than likely what they would want. I know there were a few modifications i had to make once mine was made but nothing too bad. Counter boring the holes for the motor bolts and stuff like that. I'l try to think of other things i had to do and adjust the DXF accordingly but here's the original STP file. Ok it won't let me post the DXF but the STP can be converted.

Get me a quote on one if you would please.

Ok so 1/2" thick. One plate no tap work 80.00. 5 plates gets it down to 30-50 ballpark on the water jet at my local shop

Nice. I might be down for one of you can get 5. The only place you might need tapped is for the Y limit switch. But I just wrapped the screws with a little bit of tape and screwed them in. The only other place I can see a problem is where the Z rods go. I cut a pocket for them to rest in. Water jet would obviously cut thru.

@Geof extending the plate in the front and back does not increase the rigidity of the part and only adds to the weight and cost. Just think about it logically, there is simply nothing the front and back of the plate supports, since the bed is solely supported by the bearing blocks. The extra length is also not supported by any other parts of the printer so all that extra length is not useful or necessary.
