Hiw long does it take to get to 235? Typically they dont fail that ive experienced just got weak. I bought a 5 pack of heater cores off amazon for like 10 bucks :)

Mark, any chance you have link to the 40w cores you have gotten off Amazon before? Thanks

Hey guys. Heated it up and wiggled the wires as recommended. No change in Temps. That, combined with the fact that I got satisfactory connectivity in the wires using my DMM, leads me to believe the wires are not the issue.

I'll replace them anyway just to be sure when I get themy from Robo in the next couple of days, but I suspect that will not fix my issue.

Hope it's not the Arduino board. What do those run - price wise?

Also, could this be a firmware issue? When I open the Matter program and look at the firmware block, it says RoboR1plusV1. That said, my understanding is that the latest from Robo is RoboR1plusV2.

Any thoughts on what else this could be? Could the firmware be an issue as well? Does the MatterControl Software indicate the currently loaded software?

This sounds like a hardware issue. Not a software or firmware issue.

Thanks Geof. I agree. We updated the firmware anyway to ensure we had the latest version and now the Matter control software reads V2 as it should. We tried another test print and it failed as before. Some other observations and recap:
    1. Thermistor has been changed with new one from Robo. No change in status.
    2. Tested continuity in wires from Arduino to thermistor. Wires rang out fine.
    3. Heated unit and then wiggled wires as recommended. No drop in temperature indicating anything wrong with the wires.

The temp comes right up when we preheat. Takes a minute or two. So I don't believe the heater is bad. Robo is sending a new wire from the Arduino to the thermistor but frankly I do not believe this will solve the issue.

What else could it be? Could it be the Arduino itself? Has anyone seen this error causEd by a bad board?

By the way sorry for the change in names - I am helping my son and the originaloriginal posts were his. Thanks in advance for any help.

There is one other thing to consider.
The current Marlin used by robo ignores the extruder temp while doing the autoleveling.
This means that it (effectively) disables the extruder while autoleveling. It doesn't turn it off, but it doesn't maintain it either.
So while autoleveling your extruder temperature can drift low. Far enough and it will raise this error. I have one printer that does exactly this...

try this for your startup gcode:

    G28 ; home all axes
    G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift Z by 5mm

M565 Z-0.6 ; set the offset for auto-leveling mechanism yours will be different
    G29 ; run auto-level
M117 Waiting for extruder to stabilize
M109 S[extruder0_temperature] ; set the extruder temp and wait
    M104 S[extruder0_temperature] T0 ; tool 0 temp
    M117 Working on Print

You will need to substitute your target temperature for "extruder0_temperature" or find out what variable name your program uses (These are from Simplify3D). Your M565 value will be different as well.

If you have checked everything out id suggest trying a new ramps just to see. Its a good thing to have the spare parts for when these items do eventually fail anyway.

Ah yes ! I forgot about the set temp and wait ! Good call!

Does the machine auto-level DURING printing? I ask because we can get through anywhere from 25-55% complete in the prints before the error. I thought it only auto-leveled before the start of the print.

Also - is there a place or link to get a spare R1+ Ramps board? Or do I have to go with Robo? I ask not just because of the increased cost of going through Robo - but they are also currently out of them...

The r1+ uses a custom ramps. For direct replacement robo is the only one.

It does it at the start and that was when mine would raised this error.
Midprint is worse... but make sure you don't have anything drafting air around the printer since that can do it on the smaller heater cores (another reason I like the 40w cores -- they hold the temperature a lot better).

Thanks Mark. I really don't think anything is causing the temperature to fall. Which is why I am confused I keep getting the error. I can stare at the readings while it prints up to the time it fails and it NEVER decreases by more than 1.5 degrees from target (bed) and less than a degree from the extruder target. I also have the nozzle fan turned off.

That's why this is so confusing/frustrating.

Well that stinks! Makes me wish we had just gotten the R1. From what I've read, not much different in performance, but seems like a lot of hassle with respect to replacement parts.
