It's because of all that embarrassing firmware work you've been doing. :p

@WheresWaldo, sorry, I looked around and couldn't find you, so I gave up. :p

Just messin' with ya. I'm assuming you're referring to this post:

These are all good questions. I wish I could answer them emphatically, but like I mentioned earlier in this thread, a lot of the details with respect to development are still in the process of being ironed out, so it's hard for me to provide answers without placing an asterisk over every statement, particularly anything concerning upcoming software. With that being said, I've done my best to mine around, and can tell you that:
    • you can access the camera through OctoPrint
    • there's a possibility of being able to add your own camera
    • there most likely will be a place to download the Debian image
    • you can upgrade OctoPrint on your own without having to wait on Robo to release a new version
    • it will be open-source
I should point out that although you'll be able to hack away at your C2s and R2s, it is always advised to stick to the native software/firmware and the updates/revisions released by Robo.

Simplify 3d I figured it out.. well mostly. Now for some reason everytime I resume a print it does a huge retraction and ejects my filament.

I have done multi colored prints before so I don't know whats up at the moment.

Hey guys, here's a couple pics of a part I printed on the C2.

I'll be working on more prints throughout the week so you all can get a better idea of the print quality of the C2. All that I'll say for now is that I really like the new machines.

I'd be concerned if you didn't say this :)

Did you use supports on that?

    :D

No supports, but I did use a raft, which came off nicely.

How does the c2 handle large prints without a heated bed ? Ive always had issues with nonheated beds :). Any substance on the bed like buildtac ?

For the time being, we're using full-bed sheets of masking tape on the bed, and it's working exceptionally well. The rafts that I'm using really help to ensure a successful print.

with using the IR for probing instead of the hotend, I think a sheet of buildtak will be the way to go for the C2. Shouldn't need rafts either for most prints that way. Maybe if I win the one from the twitter contest I can let you all know. ;)

I'm still trying to figure out the justification for the C2, a printer that will retail at $699, being a printer that is advertised as a deal in 2016 that doesn't have a heated bed at that price point. And how that is being offered with a straight face and in all seriousness.

A heated build plate can be bought for $20, and probably built for less than that if you were going to slap a silicone heater on the bottom of the existing build plate (bad idea depending on the build plate material).

Who was the brilliant designer that thought "Hey, let's make our new entry-level printer a PLA-only machine and lie to backers that it will be able to successfully print 20 different materials!"?

well, "PLA only" is a bit harsh.

There are other filaments that don't need a heated bed to print well, but I agree that not including the heated bed seems a bit ... short-sighted. I usually use the heated bed at least a little even on filaments that can be printed without it.

I thought they were getting away from glass only which changes things a bit. If they do use PEI that is a better non-heated surface by a long shot.
