    Nice,

    "Why do you need another printer" somone asked at my house the other day.

    I had no real reason other than "it looked cool" or "I don't know" or "it was cheap" AKA I have no valid reasons.

    Curious to see how it compares in print quality to the Robos. A delta is on the list of printers someday for me. Maybe when I tour SeeMeCNC next March I'll get an itch.

    Well, we had a bit of a kerfluffle.
    1) The wire for the bed thermistor was short by 6" or so. Given how long they make the wiring I would guess they forgot the extra 22" on that one. PITA, but fixable -- I used some other 22 gauge wire and moved on.
    2) The PTFE tube for the bowden feed was short by at least a foot. That I can't workaround so I ordered 2 meters from prime (I'll have it tomorrow) and left them another nastygram.

    We can in the morning make sure that AstroPrint works and that the calibration runs OK ... everything except actually print.

    I am going to use AstroPrint on the Pi for this as out primary interface to avoid needing to front it with the computer. It already had room for the pi internally and we dutifully mounted one on there. All I had to do was add a 12v to 5v DC converter (had a couple in the drawer from BangGood) and that sorted out the power for it. Ran a USB cable from the Rambo Board to the Pi and that will finish that. AstroPrint want a second WiFi port for the gateway stuff ... I will toss a WiPi in there and that will handle that as well.

    OK, scratch AstroPrint...
    Loaded OctoPi instead.
    It can see the printer and probably control it.

    Interesting enough it came with no firmware loaded so you have to do that first to get everything going. Firmware loaded OK and LCD controller is working.

    What I can test is working fine. It comes with a gcode file that runs the auto-calibration and stores the data in the EEPROM.
    That ran fine via the LCD controller.

    I will have a longer bowden tube this afternoon and can actually test printing.

    36" tall build area :)
    I already ordered the PTFE tube from Amazon and will have it later today, but they need to make it right.
    Too much for the kit to have missing or incorrect parts

    One other thing I will toss out there. I run webcams on the PC to see the printers remote. Works fie as I have mentioned in other threads. I thought I would add one to the Pi and just stream it with OctoPrint ... This is a swamp.

    If you are using the official Raspberry Pi camera it is fairly straight forward, but a cheapo generic USB cam ... your mileage may vary. I spent a few hours plotzing around with several and ended up just popping for a RaspberryPi cam module. This is more of a Raspbian issue with those cameras than really anything directly with OctoPrint or the streamer it uses.

    It might be almost too tall to put on a table. Hate to have to get on the floor the take a part off. :) Looks amazing though.

    Most people just stick with Logitech webcams because the compatibility is nearly universal from all reports.

    Could be the case. For the printers though I just use the cheap stuff :)
    I figured I would pop for the Pi CAM on this one just to be sure it works.

    Surprisingly an old xbox live cam I got in a bundle package a lifetime ago worked. The video is good enough for keeping an eye on the print. I've thought about getting the pi cam to see how much better it is. It's all cheap thankfully. With the Pi you should be able to use the beta Robo mobile app. ;)

    My experience with the Pi Cam is that it is a very delicate camera that doesn't take very high resolution video, but YMMV.

    They quote it as a higher resolution than most. <shrug> We will see tomorrow :)

    It doesn't have to be much anyway, I just want to be able to monitor them. The other software we use on the PC works with anything, but I would rather just network this one and not use the PC. I can still tie a webcam over to the PC I suppose.

    What controller board does the rostock use? Being a delta, I hope it isn't an 8-bit Arduino/RAMPS combo.

    It is a Rambo board. Repetier firmware.
    The Pi is purely for AstroPrint or OctoPi, but since they had a spot for it I felt obligated to plug one in
    :)
    The Rambo will detect it if you plug it into the USB port for the Rambo.
