Yeah, bowden. First time for us too.

Well now, this is cool. With Repetier firmware and a RAMBO board you can control the current to the stepper in code.. It is set in CONFIGURATION.H

That is neat. Easier than breaking out the meter and tweaking pots.

I think I need to bump the extruder drive current a bit.

That is cool. Much more precise than playing around dialing the pots in correctly.

Frankly, to stop the skipping all I had to do was remove the cosmetic panels from the side of the top and get more air in there.
The steppers are running ... quite warm. I will probably add some more DC fans on there. They have one, rather small, DC fan that cools the RAMBO and I think we need more airflow,

(edit: I called the RAMBO a RAMPS -- newb mistake)

and it is a noisy beast already... more fans will not fix that :)

but 36 inches of build volume ... Oh my!

And I guess I need to clean up the mess from building it now.

Well, turns out the issues I was having with the extruder (effector) was really a bad extruder stepper motor.
I went through tweaking the Repetier firmware to increase the motor drive currect (like you would do with a screwdriver on the Robo) and the stepper completely died.

Ordered a few more and will tackle this again next weekend :)

I have gotten really good at field-stripping the effector. I can have that puppy apart and back together in no time.

So I took a no-name Nema 17 I had sitting around and plugged it on for giggles.
It was not quite as torquey as the stock one, but not super weak. Same crap. Skips/pop/stutters.
Could not extrude more than 50mm at a shot without a skip.

Arggh. We had even rebuilt the hotend (again) with the bowden tube pre-inserted all the way into the heatbreak. Same for the EZR Extruder.

Their support suggested another spool since that one may be OOS diameter-wise... Not buying it.

So after some pondering I thought what if we crank the heat up? I jacked it all the way to 225c ?

did a test extrude 50mm... no problems, 100mm no problems, 150mm no problems.

Well crud. I still am waiting on feedback from them, but at least I can get extrusion working. Maybe we really do just need to run it hot, but... my concern there is that PLA run that hot will be a stringy mess. Sure, I could use some flavor of PET or some nylons and not have that issue, but those cost more :) I like my cheap-as-dirt PLA.

Still looking into it, but that seems like a positive outcome. The replacement stepper will be in hopefully by the weekend, early next week latest.

What temp were you before? Tried backing down 5C increments to see if you can still extrude ok? Or get a Bondtech and RAM that PLA in there :)

I am going to print and use a Gregs Wade I suspect.
We were trying to use 'normal for teh Robo' temperatures to print and .... not getting it done :)

Someone posted on thingiverse a modified gregswade that works with this model so I am likely to end up there.
But.... if I stay with the EXRstruder ... flexible filaments are a non-issue ... decisions, decisions...

Just an FYI. I was looking at a replacement RAMBO board when troubleshooting the issues, because .... spares.
Damn... those are non-cheap. It is almost cheaper to buy every electrical and and mechanical component for a Robo than a spare RAMBO :)

    They are a tad pricey.
