Anyone see the use of recycling prints and supports? I don't get it. You can buy pellets, but that's not a huge discount. Anything you make from recycling is going to be black unless you separate your recyclables. Seems like a pretty expensive endeavor to make filament. Anybody have one?

I dont have one but filastruder sells them. May want to ask there. Issue I have with it (I do want to play with it sometime) is holding tolerances and respooling. Recycling filament is pretty much a bust as the cheap stuff is mostly already recycled.

Have you seen this new one to market. Does look fun to play with and cheaper than the others.

I havent seen then. I think until there is a way to measure and hold accuracy of filament (the machines used by the pros are huge, expensive precise machines that still have issues keeping tolerance) I wont be jumping into one...but who knows! maybe! lol

    Tim here, from Filastruder.

Holding tolerances isn't as difficult as some may think. Big production lines struggle with it more than a Filastruder, based purely on production speed. Think of how hard it is to do a quality 3D print at 100mm/sec versus 30mm/sec.

Plenty of folks holding +/-0.05, some hold +/-0.01mm or so:

As far as recycling rafts/supports, one of our users does just that:

Another of our customers recycles TVs into filament:

    Hope that helps.

I think the real benefit is that it will make you 'feel' better. There doesn't seem to be any economic benefit nor does it do anything to reduce your carbon footprint. There simply are no free rides.

But if 'feeling' good is important to you and for many it is of prime importance, go for it and let us know how you feel about it after using it for a while.
