Feb 15, 2017 4:47 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
Feb 15, 2017 7:13 AM - daniel871: For the step calibration, if you don't want to fool with firmware directly you could just define it in starting Gcode in your slicer with M92.
    Feb 15, 2017 7:13 AM - daniel871: http://reprap.org/wiki/G-code#M92:_Set_axis_steps_per_unit
Feb 15, 2017 7:44 AM - Malte: Okay but what should the z steps/mm be for the r1 refurbished
Feb 15, 2017 8:35 AM - daniel871: Depends on whether is has 5/16 threaded rods or 8mm threaded rods or the integrated leadscrews.
Feb 15, 2017 8:36 AM - daniel871: Get the firmware for the version you have and flash it as the starting point before you just start fiddling and really screw things up. http://guide.robo3d.com/Wiki/ROBO_3D_Firmware_Release_Notes#Section_Old_ROBO_R1_Firmware
Feb 15, 2017 8:50 AM - Malte: I printed a 20 mm cube with the RoBo3DR1V3 firmware and the cube was at 20mm all directions, i think it was that i had the rc8 firmware
Feb 15, 2017 8:51 AM - Malte: but it has strange ripples in the print
Feb 15, 2017 9:11 AM - WheresWaldo: Likely you had the incorrect RC8, You have to download the one that matches the leadscrew/threaded rods or modify the steps yourself.
    Feb 15, 2017 9:34 AM - Malte: I copied the steps/mm from the RoBo3DR1V3 firmware into rc8 and currently testing a 20mm cube
Feb 15, 2017 9:34 AM - Malte: what leadscrew is RoBo3DR1V3 designed for?
    Feb 15, 2017 9:39 AM - WheresWaldo: 8mm
Feb 15, 2017 9:46 AM - Malte: okay so if it printed perfect with that firmware does that mean i have a 8mm rod?
    Feb 15, 2017 10:46 AM - WheresWaldo: Yep

Feb 19, 2017 8:28 AM - Malte: like it wassnt getting enough power or something

Feb 19, 2017 at 11:22 PM - Jerry RoBo 3D: could be a setting for layer cooling that delays the layer by slowing down the print speed
Feb 19, 2017 at 11:23 PM - Jerry RoBo 3D: smaller layers will get printed slower
Feb 19, 2017 at 11:23 PM - Jerry RoBo 3D: so they have time to cool

Feb 20, 2017 at 8:06 AM - toymaker: ive printed some 200mb plus stls, and while printing if i use print preview in repetier it can slow down the motors
Feb 20, 2017 at 8:07 AM - toymaker: i got 16 of ram... so im not too sure if it is a memory issue, i just learned not to mess with the print prewiew stuff on very large files

Mar 2, 2017 9:46 AM - Quest: That is cool. Might have to look into it more. I think my sister would like one.
Mar 2, 2017 10:32 AM - daniel871: It's about $3,500 if bought from them, plus you have to build the raised bed you mount it on.

Mar 9, 2017 at 10:03 AM - danzca6: Anyone see Josef Prusa's latest release? So very cool.
Mar 9, 2017 at 10:15 AM - JeffTheMess: this place still alive
    Mar 9, 2017 at 11:35 AM - daniel871: Chat dead so what.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:24 PM - Geof: Anyone see the R2 coupon in the email? 200 bucks off the R2 if your someone that is going to buy one.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:37 PM - daniel871: Still don't think the printer is worth more than $900.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 1:37 PM - daniel871: $1,300 is holy LOL territory.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 1:38 PM - Geof: lol 1200 with the coupon :D
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:39 PM - Geof: thats almost as much as I paid for my type A thats coming lol
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:45 PM - WheresWaldo: I downloaded the Prusa Slic3r, will test with my Robo profiles, It still isn't automagic but will help speed up print times for better looking prints.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:47 PM - Geof: yea I was reading up on that earlier. Pretty neat way of going about it
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:52 PM - daniel871: Yeah, saw it on one of the 3d printing FB groups and someone was all "Why doesn't $150 S3D come out with features like this first?!" and I posted "Because Josef Prusa isn't an S3D employee".
    Mar 9, 2017 at 1:52 PM - daniel871: People have a serious hate-on for S3D costing money.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:53 PM - daniel871: Even though it's one of the few things that delivers on having well-documented support and actually being fairly useful if you want to print a very specific thing a very specific way vs. dumb firing and hoping for the best.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:56 PM - WheresWaldo: Dan it's not only that, S3D is very slow to respond to user requests, and aside from supports there really isn't much that S3D brings to the table.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:57 PM - WheresWaldo: S3D has a lot of odd behavior, well documented by users, Some existing since version 2.x I don't think $150 is too much to pay but I would at least expect a higher level of support, and not accusing users of piurating with the inclusion ofg DRM in their product.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:58 PM - daniel871: To be fair on the pirating accusation, there are lots of people that are all *wink wink nudge nudge* about their pirating it.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:58 PM - WheresWaldo: Support in the form of user suggested enhancements and not documentation at which they are near the top of the list.
Mar 9, 2017 at 1:59 PM - daniel871: I was about to say that if people would read the documentation there shouldn't be much need of technical support.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM - WheresWaldo: We could argue DRM all day, whether it works or doesn't. People who pirate software don't care about DRM it only really becomes an incovenince for legitmate users not pirates.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM - daniel871: S3D DRM only affects people that can't connect to the internet on a regular basis.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:01 PM - daniel871: I logged in once when I installed it on each PC that uses it, never had to worry about it again and I have shitty rural DSL internet.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:01 PM - WheresWaldo: It can and has caused other issues also. But let's move on to something we can both agree with.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 2:02 PM - WheresWaldo: Overpriced 3D printers
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:02 PM - daniel871: Literally any 3d printer I haven't bought yet that also still works.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:03 PM - daniel871: Did you see that MPCNC make where someone made a 420x420x240 build area 3d printer with it?
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:04 PM - WheresWaldo: When HP delivers a consumer grade 3D printer, we might finally get to 3D printer as an appliance
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:04 PM - WheresWaldo: No where was the posting?
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:04 PM - daniel871: That assumes Congress doesn't shut it all down when the MarkForged Metal X comes out and someone prints an actual gun with it.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:06 PM - WheresWaldo: You mean regulate the shit out of it like the FCC has done with multi-rotor aerial vehicles.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 2:06 PM - WheresWaldo: FAA
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:06 PM - WheresWaldo: or at least try to .
    Mar 9, 2017 at 2:06 PM - daniel871: FCC & Music.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 2:06 PM - daniel871: http://community.robo3d.com/index.p...extruder-upgrade-questions.17870/#post-103280
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:07 PM - daniel871: It's kind of a non-sequitor post but I posted it in that thread where the guy is wanting to do to the R1+ what several people did to the R1 before they realized it was a bad idea.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 2:07 PM - WheresWaldo: Wow, what a contraption!
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:09 PM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, I agreed with al;l your points in that thread. It's like they said to themselves, I bought this printer but now I wished I had bought something else, but maybe I can make this more like What I should have bought in the first place.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:09 PM - daniel871: All he needs to do is build a stationary heated build plate and be in business.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:10 PM - WheresWaldo: The R2 is prettier than that MPCNC machine :lol :D
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:12 PM - WheresWaldo: Because we all know that pretty machines print better
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:12 PM - daniel871: Not the probably $800 price difference prettier.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:13 PM - WheresWaldo: Despite my reservations I may still opt for a Wanhao Duplicator 7 once Monoprice starts importing them.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:16 PM - daniel871: I'm holding out to see what the big FDM printer is going to be.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:16 PM - WheresWaldo: Monoprice has a nice thing there, since they actually spec their own stuff and not just accept what Wanhao built first.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:17 PM - daniel871: The $800 FDM late this year/early next year that supposedly can print a 400MM cube that not much has been published about since CES.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:18 PM - WheresWaldo: I need something with more detail and it doesn't need to be big, that is why I am looking at the resin printer, big concern about using an LCD panel with the UV LEDs as the LEDs will eventually destroy the LCD panel.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:19 PM - WheresWaldo: I need to see more testing done on that scenario
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:19 PM - WheresWaldo: But at $400 + shipping it will give the Form1 a bit of competition.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:20 PM - daniel871: The big SLA they're coming out with supposedly uses "lasers and galvos" instead of the LED/LCD setup the little one uses. Not much is actually published to analyze though.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 2:20 PM - daniel871: I wish I could afford a Form2
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:21 PM - daniel871: Even if SLA printing is something of a hassle because you have to have a UV chamber to finish curing your print after the printer is done with it & wash it down with alcohol before bare hand handling it.
Mar 9, 2017 at 2:22 PM - WheresWaldo: I would love a laser based printer, but I can't afford that on my meager Shapeways earnings. So the little printer is much more in my price range.
    Mar 9, 2017 at 3:05 PM - toymaker: i just finished fixxing a trashed r1 for a friend..... #254,
Mar 9, 2017 at 3:05 PM - toymaker: whoever had that printer seemed to have taken apart and allowed a monkeyt to reassemble it
Mar 9, 2017 at 3:46 PM - toymaker: good thing im smarter than your average monkey
Mar 9, 2017 at 6:28 PM - BryZad: Waldo you still around ?

Mar 10, 2017 7:52 AM - daniel871: Man, people get really offended on Facebook if you tell someone to buy some PEI for their printer and never use hairspray again.
Mar 10, 2017 7:55 AM - daniel871: (in response to a topic about the local makerspace safety whatever banning hairspray use in the same room as soldering and welding equipment)
Mar 10, 2017 8:01 AM - WheresWaldo: So people are still bent out of shape over the fake news of the UK couple dying as a result of 3D printing and hairspray.
    Mar 10, 2017 8:01 AM - WheresWaldo: I meant CA
Mar 10, 2017 9:18 AM - daniel871: Ignore the meth lab, it was the 3d printer.
Mar 10, 2017 1:56 PM - BryZad: Hey anyone using mesh leveling in Waldo's thread
Mar 10, 2017 2:06 PM - WheresWaldo: A lot of us including myself
Mar 10, 2017 2:09 PM - WheresWaldo: what do you want to know, BryZad?
Mar 10, 2017 2:24 PM - BryZad: Looking for the start gcode for simple 3d
Mar 10, 2017 2:26 PM - BryZad: And if I level the bed through the LCD screen is there any way to hold the setting ? I have a e3d hotend and the lead screws upgrade
Mar 10, 2017 2:30 PM - BryZad: Or any link for more info would be great
Mar 10, 2017 2:39 PM - WheresWaldo: Bry, it is as simple as you can imagine, once you perform the leveling routine just go to the Menu option to save memory and now it is there until you save memory with new values.
Mar 10, 2017 2:41 PM - WheresWaldo: Startup gcode is also simple, you still need a G28 or no printer would know where X0 Y0 or Z0 are, you don't need an M565 or M851 for Z offset but the code will just place an unused number in memory so it will have no effect.
Mar 10, 2017 2:41 PM - BryZad: Save the settings through the LCD ?
Mar 10, 2017 2:42 PM - WheresWaldo: If you leave the G29 all it does with MESH is report what the parameters are, nothing more. So that startup gcode pretty much is the same for MESH as it is for any other auto-leveling schema.
Mar 10, 2017 2:42 PM - BryZad: Sorry Waldo not at home at the moment or would be easier to put it all together
Mar 10, 2017 2:42 PM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, I think RCBugFix does it automagically now, but in RC8 ytou have to go back to the menu and Save Memory
Mar 10, 2017 2:43 PM - WheresWaldo: I am not at my printer either so I am telling you all this from memory.
Mar 10, 2017 2:43 PM - BryZad: See I think I messed up my gcode cause I think I took out the g29 and z offset in my start code
Mar 10, 2017 2:44 PM - WheresWaldo: The Z offset can go, because MESH just ignores it anyway.
Mar 10, 2017 2:44 PM - WheresWaldo: The G29 can go but I leave it there so I can see the settings when the print starts.
Mar 10, 2017 2:44 PM - BryZad: I appreciate it if you do come across time and at a printer would you be willing to throw me a pic of your start gcode ?
Mar 10, 2017 2:45 PM - WheresWaldo: I am at my computer, so I can do that now. Just not near the printer.
Mar 10, 2017 2:46 PM - BryZad: O awesome thank you it will give me a base to look at and companies to mine
    Mar 10, 2017 2:46 PM - WheresWaldo: Will upload in a minute
Mar 10, 2017 2:47 PM - BryZad: I do appreciate all the help and the hard work into the code on your thread
Mar 10, 2017 2:50 PM - WheresWaldo: I will post it in the thread, look there
Mar 10, 2017 2:51 PM - BryZad: Okay sounds good thanks agian
    Mar 10, 2017 2:51 PM - WheresWaldo: Done
