    I've created two tools for work that eliminates 15ft ladders for us and a flashlight/DeWalt knife holder for my belt. For me it's worth every dime I spent on it

    You don't really need a Raspberry Pi unless you want remote access to your printer. Remote doesn't have to be Internet access either. I use a rPi with Octoprint as a print server on my network. There are not very many good touchscreen interfaces that run directly on the rPi (just my personal opinion). I was speaking of something like this that directly attaches to the printer and gives you a graphical look at the current working parameters

    Upgrading firmware to a newer version of Marlin requires that you become familiar with the Arduino IDE and how to load?comp[ile?upload firmware to the Arduino board inside your printer. I do not supply a .hex file with the monthly builds so you cannot simply upload the firmware with MatterControl.

    Thanks! I'm having a blast printing. I had my first model lift at the corners last night. First time that's happened. Maybe because it was cooler in the house?

    I'm running the Fry's on my way home tonight. I think I saw some LCD screens down there when I picked up some PLA.

    Still learning and reading a lot. The weekend is finally just about here and then I can really dive into some research.

    Like:

    Upgrading firmware
    Learning more about G-coding
    Learning more about creating supports

    I would also like to print out the risers over the weekend.

    It's I've had mine for a year and haven't modified it. However if I do modify it it will be to make taller Prints. My goal is to look into allowing my prints to go at least 10 inches

    You can buy leadscrews in incredibly long lengths. Should be straightforward

    @m4r1n5 You could easily accomplish that with two 400 mm x 8 mm linear rails and two 400 mm TR8 lead screws. Do you also want to increase the Z resolution?
    TR8-4 is the size the R1+PLUS uses and allows layer heights as small as 0.02 mm
    TR8-2 will allow layer height movements as small as 0.01 mm

    Banggood:
    400 mm linear rail $4.39 @
    400 mm TR8 -2 or -4 lead screw $5.39 @

    Amazon:
    400 mm linear rail $16.52 Pair
    400 mm TR8-2 lead screw 15.99 @

    TR8 means trapezoidal acme screw in 8 mm diameter
    -4 indicates the pitch 4 mm linear motion per full rotation
    -2 indicates 2 mm linear movement per full rotation

    Oh. I forgot I also want to change the bed. Using ABS I'm losing 2 inches off of my print because the bed doesn't heat up the edges of the plate

    I got my heater from AliExpress, took a month, but it was worth the wait.
    From these guys, Shenzhen Ali Brother Technology Co., Ltd. a lot of people in the 3D printer groups on Google+ like them. They will even custom make the size you want.

    So, I've done my first mods. I printed the risers, and Z axis braces. I also mounted my filament spool above the printer and added a UPS. It needed a Star Wars sticker too. :) Loving it!

    When I was printing the risers lastnight my laptop actually powered down even though it was being charged. It was powered down for about 10 minutes and the print was paused. I thought I lost it. Amazingly when I did get the laptop to power up again the print resumed with only a small flaw. I was awe struck.


    I'm very happy with this printer. I still think my Z offset is just a bit too low, but not bad. I think I could probably adjust my Z lift a bit. It just barely drags the nozzle over the print.

    You got lucky with the paused job! I've had one brown out myself with a good recovery but after 2 spoiled prints due to updates/reboots I changed my printer to my Linux laptop and it never failed me. I've since moved up to a LCD controller and life has been good.

    If you are printing PLA be sure to add an oiler to your system.

    I use one like this:

    Put a few drops of cooking oil (canonola oil has the highest flash point and is preferred) in the foam.

    I add more oil once a month or when I change my spools. I haven't had a serious jam or clog since using an oiler.

    Haha. You are printing like a mad man. Image printing that's good for you right now then you shouldn't have any issues with it for a while. I've noticed where a lot of people that have issues with their printer it's usually right out of the gate

    I've had some issues start. The most pressing is that my first layer wont stick. I've tried this print three times.

    PLA? ABS? If it's pla I use Hairspray, let it dry then glue stick on top and it sticks fairly well. Abs comma I use a mixture of acetone and abs on the bed
