So I'm not even sure where to start. One of my Robo R1 Plus running off a 1.4 graphic smart display. It keeps failing after an hour or two. The printer is just sitting there and the screen says waiting to heat. Temperatures on the display are where they left off, but there really isn't any heat at all. I'm not sure what to test; I think I'm going to start a print from my computer and see what that does. From what I see, it could be the graphics display, a loose connection, a bad temperature reading, my ramps board, I just don't know. Anyone experienced this?

That about covers it. You are going to need to experiment to sort out what the real issues are. Any or all of those are possible culprits. You really need to see what (if any) errors are being raised by Marlin and with the LCD that is often impossible (some errors it will display, but usually only fatal ones).

Hey Shane, hook back up to USB and look at the gcode terminal. There should be an error in there somewhere buddy

Oh excellent. I did not know that. I will do that again tomorrow unless it logs the history? Thanks Geof.

However, it stores the chatter to/from the printer for the session you are connected so ... when you get the error do what @Geof suggested :)

Ok. So here's my update. The problem has gotten worse and is more obvious. My extruder motor is stuttering. So now I believe it's just a bad driver and of course I don't have any. I think I'm going to order that kit off amazon with everything for parts.

It doesn't come with thermal paste. Does anyone know if the heatsinks come mounted on the drivers already?

It does not use thermal paste for those heatsinks, at least not how you think.
The heatsinks come with a backing that you peel off and then stick them straight on the stepper driver chip. The glue/adhesive is your "thermal paste" in that case.

As for them already mounted... YMMV.
Some are, some are not :)

I've yet to get any in the kits that have been mounted, just peel the cover off the tape, slap her on there :D

Ok, so the solution was that the stepper motor was shorting out. The wires were rubbing on the head of the extruder bolt where they are wire tied to the extruder. The wires are damaged, but I fanned them apart and it's running perfectly again. Thanks guys.

Make sure you replace or wrap up those wires to avoid further headache
