I have the R1+, and have been using it since December. Printing along just fine. Now I can get past the level steps as I get a hardware error and the hotend loses temp. I have switched out the thermister and even installed a completely new hot end assembly, no difference. I took the panel off to see if there were any loose wire connections on the board, everything seemed ok. I have attached my gcode here. Can anyone help?

    Your error:

<-Error:Extruder switched off. Temperature fell too much during print! [72.636]

Always an extruder thermistor issue. Either the wiring is loose (you checked it) or the therrmistor is bad (you replaced it) or the PARTS fan is blowing on the hotend (instead of the print) and cooling it down too much.

My suggestion is the same still as all the other threads on this error -- get a 40w heater core first and see if that doesn't solve it.

I still have this issue when I have removed the fan so there is no air cooling the hot end. I will try the 40W heater and see what that gets me.

well hopefully you did not remove the extruder fan, just the parts fan. The Hexagon (or E3D) needs the hotend fan running all the time.

Yes, just the parts fan as I was adding a new fan shroud.

OK, installed 40W heater cartridge and still getting the error right after bed leveling....

Then it is not heater related, but probably thermistor related.

Only a few parts in-play here:

    • The Thermistor could be bad.
    • The heater core can be weak (and with a parts fan blowing on the extruder you are in trouble)
    • The Wiring can be bad
    • The RAMPS can be bad
    • The Arduino can be bad.

Can't think of anything else :) Run down the list.

    OK, thanks.
I have changed the thermistor twice, I can't imagine they are all bad
Just put in a 40W heater core per your recommendation
Wires I have checked at the board and rang them out to make sure there was not a break in the wire, all seems good. I also let the unit sit and heat at printing temps for 2 hours, no problem as long it was not trying to print.

Ramps and Arduino, how can I tell if they are bad?

As I said before this machine was working perfectly fine and then this issue came up.

You know what the difference is between what you did and printing? The extruder and wires are moving around :)
A loose connection or bad connection could be at fault. Let it sit at temp for a bit to be sure it is stable and then manually move the extruder platform around by hand like it is printing. See what happens to the temperature (leave up the temperature graph)

Mark makes some sense, but where is the temp graph in MatterControl?
