I'm glad I'm up and running. Four new boxes of filament arrived today. :)

OK. So I installed the counter weight that has popped up recently. I had a problem with the extruder stepper motor striking it and not allowing the screw to fully depress the X endstop. I installed a slightly longer screw and that problem is solved.

I really didn't notice a difference in print quality until I started the print that had a larger footprint. That first layer was beautiful.

@Curtis Wolfe make sure if you installed a longer screw to find home that you adjust the bed size in your slicer (a longer screw = shortened x build volume) not by much of course but could cause you some serious grief on a large or wide print

Mark, Did you get any testing done with the counterweight?

    Yep, it worked perfectly.
I don't see any major differences in leveling numbers, but in all honesty I would not expect to if the leveling was working as expected.

It may be more helpful for people with bubbled or unlevel glass.

    What's the difference between the E3D V6 and the E3D V6 lite?

    Pro's......Con's?

V6 is the full on all metal hotend. V6 light is ...half of that. lol. It has a lower temperature rating. I've heard people like the V6 lite on PLA only printers as its lighter and a little cheaper...but even my pla "only" printers...I throw the full on V6 on there so I can run multiple materials :D

I'll go for the full one then when I'm ready.

I really want another printer. Don't we all!? I'm considering another R1, but I think I may get a kit so I can learn more about them.

Also, I've started tinkering with modeling in 3D builder. I have Fusion 360 but I'm intimidated by it.

Definitely a clone, the current E3D v6 uses a cartridge thermistor that is installed similar to how the heater is installed (held in place by set screw instead of clamped with screw and washer).

    Chinese clone :)

For what it is worth (and having used a variety of different hotends myself*) the real key difference on most of the smaller hotends is the heatbreak. If that is well designed then the hotend will work well and if not... not so much.

The brand names (E3D, Prometheus, etc.) have done a great job of engineering the parts and they work well. Even the hexagon works well it is just not designed to be repairable.

*some of which were total crap. Even some designs from printer manufacturers were junk.

Do you think (and I know it's hard to answer something like this) this would be a good kit to have around? With the extra nozzles and such. Especially if I'm thinking about getting a kit.

Remember I also have the OSOYOO 3D Printer Kit with RAMPS 1.4 Controller + Mega 2560 board + 5pcs A4988 Stepper Motor Driver with Heatsink + LCD 12864 Graphic Smart Display Controller with Adapter For Arduino RepRap on the way.

    Thanks,

    CW
