So I'm sort of new to 3D printing. I owned the R1+ and never had this problem with it. I've tried to research the issue I've come across, so I believe my problem is called banding or ribbing. It is an evenly spaced-out wave that goes along the z axis of my prints (as you can see in the picture). I've tried changing the temperature from 220 to 190 and that did nothing. Then I changed the quality but that also did nothing. Then I heard it could be vibrations or z wobble so i moved my printer off my table and printed it on the floor. As you can guess this also did nothing. I'm in need of some assistance. Thanks!

Looks a lot like what I would expect from a bent rod.

Call Robo and talk with a tier-2 tech

You are going to need to deal with them directly for replacement.

This is not something you are doing incorrectly, there is something broken in the printer so you need to get them on the horn to sort it out.

Will they just replace the rods or the whole printer?

I've got EXACTLY the same issue on my R2. Could this be the gantry one cog off on an axis instead of a bent rod?

Wow - hope this is just an isolated set of machines. Just got mine 2 weeks ago and got it set up but was out on vacation and work and etc. so I didn't have much time to actually run it. Disappointing that it is defective. Wonder what the root cause was - seemed fine during upacking - no visible damage to anything.

What is interesting for me and I have seen Prusa comment on this as well in places. The screw will have a small degree of wobble and you don't want a bearing at the top to stop it from doing to as that will translate into the print in negative ways.

I am curious on these Z-axis screws if they are warped, or the bearings have a bunch of slop in them. I have found my bearings to have a bunch of play when I move the bed up and down. All my other machines from different brands have upper wobble in the Z screws, but the bearings are good and I have minimal play.

Can anyone get a ruler close enough while the screw spins to see if there is more going on?

I also have a C2. It has a bearing on the top end of the Z screw. While the design is similar, my R2 doesn't have a bearing on the top. Support confirmed that is correct.

I can definitely see wobble at the top of the screw as it spins. It is perhaps 2-3mm eccentric from center. I haven't measured it but I plan to or at least get a video clip showing the motion.

The Z banding on my prints is consistent and very pronounced.

There is a chance in using cheap parts. I have bought "new" leadscrews that have a wobble but ok and "new" ones that are fine and "new" ones that dance :D cheap is cheap.

(the source of the parts, not the machine)
