Doesn't sound like a firmware issue though, stepper driver most likely.
Multiple dead RAMPS boards is not abnormal either they are cheaply made...

Which is why we say time and again, start a new thread for a new issue.
Try the firmware if you like if that does NOT solve it then start a new thread.

Pretty sure I have the V2. Im not sure whats going on with this board. Its really odd, first my therm wires popped out the hotend causing it to basicly heat the point it melted the tubing inside (so I now have a v6 hotend ), and the other thing I had go wrong at the same time was i smelled that burning components smell and after that the feeder driver wont turn the motor. If I move it to another motor control it moves fine and as I mentioned I get the same results if I try another ramps board that I have. Luckily I have a few ardruino's sitting around through the various projects I've tinkered with (one being another mega) so hopefully this works. I don't really see how a part of the ardruino board would be damaged. I dont physically see any burn marks but who knows...

Hey one other question, I was reading some were at some point the design of the R1 changed. They used 5/16 rods and then moved to true 8mm. You wouldn't happen to know when that was would you?

Yea, our parts bin overfloweth with megas as well. Most projects that we could use an Uno on we invariably toss in a mega for "later revisions" :)

I hate the fact that regardless of where I source them, all of the RAMPS are made in China and are not what I would call the greatest quality. I always have at least two spares since invariably 1 will probably not work. I got smarter the last time and tested the extra ones so they WERE working at one point :)

The Beta (pre-R1) used 5/16 rods and some of the early R1 units did as well. Nothing in recent history would have used them and there were not many of the R1 units with 5/16 rods. If you aren't sure swing by Ace or another HW store and grab a 5/16 nut :)

Wait, they didnt use 5/16 threaded rods did they? I thought it was the smooth rods they may have used 5/16th on?

Nope the threaded rods were 5/16th on the Beta and some early R1 units.

This is why there are Eleventy-Dozen flavors of the firmware out there and great care is needed to download the correct one. :)
They tweaked a lot of crap with every version right up to the R1+

The main Robo site which is hosted by a different company than the forum appears to be down.
