My touch screen went dead, but I noticed a small piece of filament between the screen and the frame. I took a piece of paper and removed the filament. Now the touch screen works great again. It must be some sort of capacitance screen and the filament was shorting the screen out.

I just ran into the same issue, a piece of 3" x 1" poster board fit nicely and after running it completely around the screen, now it works as good as when it arrived.

Just had the same issue. No filament between my screen and the case. The only thing that happened between now and the last time I used it was that it was turned off for a week.

I ended up disconnecting and reconnecting the header cable that goes to the Pi and that seems to have fixed it.
