I have used cleaning filament in the past and it does work, but so does the Atomic Pull. That is take a short length of filament and put it in your hotend, heat it up to about 220° C then cool it to 160°, then grab the end and yank it out. That will usually trap any residue in the cooled filament and it will be pulled out with the filament.

sorry, but what is a "cold pull"? Thanks waldo,I understand now.. I will have to give that a shot. How often would you suggest doing that? every spool change or monthly?

I rarely do it myself brass nozzles are cheap, and if you source them from China you can put on a new one every week for a year for just a few bucks. Geof had a link to really cheap ones.

I just got a bag of 8 nozzles so I may just do that for a while when in doubt. ;)

Geof posted a link for someone who sells by the hundreds I think, maybe he can pull that one back out of his bag of tricks.

Somewhat on the same topic, when done printing for the day or maybe three days let’s say, is it ok to leave the extruder loaded or should I warm pull (new term ) the filament and leave the extruder empty?

I don't really think it matters one way or another, I leave the filament loaded.
