Jul 2, 2018 at 9:22 PM - Graham Brooks: Hi! is there anyone here who can help me with my z axis?
Jul 3, 2018 at 5:35 AM - mark tomlinson: probably, open a thread and post some details.
Jul 3, 2018 at 5:55 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey jim3Dbot is online, long time no see.

Jul 6, 2018 at 7:37 AM - Geof: Hey Waldo, hope you had a Happy 4th!
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:37 AM - Geof: get that AC fixed up?
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:45 AM - WheresWaldo: Nope, waiting on the HVAC guy, he is looking for a condensor coil for the downstairs unit.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:46 AM - WheresWaldo: And that doesn't mean we may still need a compressor, don't know where I am going to get the money if that is the issue, it is a 3 ton unit that is about 15 years old.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:51 AM - Geof: eeek! its gettin towards the end of life if anything like my area.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:51 AM - Geof: hope thats not the case! My old man just redid his furnace/AC to the tune of like 5k. Owch.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Yep, I might have to get a used unit until I can svae enough. Problem there is that you have no clue how much life is left in a used unit. My neighbor just replaced her two units to the tune of $17K, but she had all the duct work replaced and bought top of the line Trane units. I would be happy with a Goodman since the insides are Trane anyway and they are much cheaper.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:57 AM - Geof: Thats what I've got at my new house. Furnace and AC for the house are both goodman. Easy to work on, easy to clean, easy to get apart if need arrises lol.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:58 AM - Geof: the furnace in the garage is some monstrous thing from the 60s. I'll keep hodgepodging that buy together. Theres like 5 parts that make it work haha.
Jul 6, 2018 at 7:58 AM - Geof: Used units are a bit of a gamble but I know some people who it really worked out well for. The big thing is see if the HVAC guys know of a used unit that they can "guarantee" for at least a season.
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Just finished up modeling a trim piece for his BRZ. otherwise I am kinda glad it is a slow day.
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:33 AM - WheresWaldo: My nephew that is.
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:35 AM - Geof: ah gotya! Yea decently slow day here as well. Makin room for that new printer that comes next weekish got a few jobs to run on UM and Gmax. Other than that hoping I'm all caught up and can relax this weekend lol.
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:42 AM - WheresWaldo: I go t a few chores around the house to finish up been trying to kill some vegitation around the house and backyard, decided I would try eco-friendly this time, I am using a super-saturated mix of Rock salt and dishwashing soap to spray where there shouldn'e be any vegitation. I started spraying yesterday and already see some plants dying.
    Jul 6, 2018 at 8:46 AM - Geof: I hate yard work
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:47 AM - WheresWaldo: I am no fan either, especially when the temps reach 90° with 90% humidity.
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:48 AM - Geof: exactly its sweltering here
Jul 6, 2018 at 8:57 AM - Geof: I have yet to mow the yard this week and its honestly less than an hour on the rider,,,,just so....HOT!
Jul 6, 2018 at 11:30 AM - daniel871: You could get a Honda Miimo for the price of a 3d printer and never mow the lawn again.
Jul 6, 2018 at 11:34 AM - daniel871: (but we're talking Ultimaker/Zortrax 3d printer cost, not Original Prusa or Robo printer prices).

Jul 11, 2018 at 11:38 AM - daniel871: So while the company I'm working for is paying for Solidworks-related expenses I went ahead and tested out to the CWSP-level certification Solidworks offers and got certified.
Jul 11, 2018 at 11:40 AM - daniel871: I'm a little disappointed in how easy those exams were, though. They make such a big deal about that certification that I was expecting something truly difficult.
Jul 11, 2018 at 11:41 AM - daniel871: (That's not going to stop me from plastering the certificate information on my LinkedIn/related social media profiles though)

Jul 12, 2018 5:19 AM - Geof: Daniel, I'd be interested in knowing more about the purpose of their certification? Just a "proof of knowledge" type of thing?
Jul 12, 2018 5:37 AM - JeffTheMess: morning roboneers, quick question for you guys.. for simplify3d when changing the top solid layers. How does that work with the dimension of the print? Let's say I print a 2"x2"x2" cube and change the solid layers form 3 to 5 solid layers; will it add it inside the print to keep the same size? Or does it do something different
Jul 12, 2018 5:38 AM - Geof: inside. The outside dimensions are always "what they arek"
    Jul 12, 2018 5:38 AM - Geof: are***
    Jul 12, 2018 5:38 AM - JeffTheMess: I figured thanks
Jul 12, 2018 5:38 AM - Geof: so a 2x2x2 cube with 20 top layers instead of 2 will still be 2x2x2 (if machine is set up proper)
    Jul 12, 2018 5:39 AM - JeffTheMess: sweet
Jul 12, 2018 5:56 AM - daniel871: Geof, yeah, seems like it. Also resume padding for companies that think that kind of certification is important (same as Microsoft Office certifications, etc.)
Jul 12, 2018 5:59 AM - JeffTheMess: looking for another job?
Jul 12, 2018 6:00 AM - JeffTheMess: or side work?
Jul 12, 2018 6:07 AM - daniel871: Depends on the side work, and mostly just updating my resume because "you never know"
Jul 12, 2018 6:10 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, I have to do the same, haven't done that in awhile

Jul 16, 2018 at 5:09 AM - Geof: Scott I dont think you'll want to do that. All the Robos are set pretty well good on X and Y. Your Z should be your only issue if the machine is calibrated and set up correctly
Jul 16, 2018 at 10:47 AM - mark tomlinson: Yea, X and Y are mechanically fixed so there should be no offset from the zero position (which is where the limit switch triggers)

Jul 17, 2018 3:35 PM - Scott Tobin: I’m doing some prints that are right below the maximum dimensions on all axis. But, for some reason the right side of the X axis and the back side of the Y axis continue to get cut off despite being within the printable area. I dunno. I’m using Cura, but I don’t think that is the problem. Also on another note, looking under the print bed I’m wondering if anyone has tried to install longer rods and maybe some supports to increase the Y axis. Thank

Jul 18, 2018 3:18 AM - daniel871: Have you double-checked that the wiring isn't acting as a binding restriction on the motion of the axes in question? Recently saw that as an issue on a printer someone locally was trying to figure out (there was a telltale belt skipping sound though).
Jul 18, 2018 5:11 AM - Geof: Daniel has a good point, those wires can cause some crazy for sure
Jul 18, 2018 6:57 AM - mark tomlinson: Scott, you can replace the bed with a longer one to increase the Y axis. I did that on one. The X is rather fixed, but Y and Z you can make larger with a bit of effort.
Jul 18, 2018 6:58 AM - mark tomlinson: Also that is only true for the R1 series, the C2 and R2 are not going to be easy to stretch in any direction
Jul 18, 2018 7:44 AM - daniel871: Wouldn't it be less expensive, and better in the long run, to save up and buy a printer at the print area you want? I mean, the CR-10S is $450 and you get a 11.8 x 11.8 x 15.7 build area that the printer was designed for.
    Jul 18, 2018 7:45 AM - daniel871: For reference: https://www.gearbest.com/3d-printers-3d-printer-kits/pp_796478.html?wid=1433363#goodsDetail
Jul 18, 2018 7:46 AM - daniel871: Plus you still have your R1 for printing smaller pieces while the CR-10 prints the big stuff.
Jul 18, 2018 10:06 AM - Geof: Daniel, thats the way I do it, I had one instance where a guy only had room for one machine and wanted the one he already bought. So we did like Mark is talking with the Y. It looks ugly to do the Z :D
Jul 18, 2018 12:10 PM - Scott Tobin: I think the issue I have is either firmware or software right now. As far as the Y axis there is still a centimeter or two of unobstructed room in the back end of the plate with what I am printing.
Jul 18, 2018 12:11 PM - Scott Tobin: But it still cuts off that end of the print

Jul 20, 2018 7:11 AM - JeffTheMess: holy shit that sucks
Jul 20, 2018 7:22 AM - Geof: yep sad to see yet another company go under.
Jul 20, 2018 9:52 AM - daniel871: The writing was on the wall with how they were doing things lately though.
Jul 20, 2018 10:08 AM - Geof: I'd agree with that. Much more hobbyist vs business from what I saw. Lots of clearance sales.
Jul 20, 2018 10:35 AM - daniel871: Ah man, I got sniped when I was trying to snipe on an ebay auction.
Jul 20, 2018 10:38 AM - daniel871: Someone had a Sindoh DP200 up for auction and it was sub-$300, I bid $350 when the timer was at one minute and in the last minute the price jumped up to $450.
Jul 20, 2018 10:39 AM - daniel871: Still would've been a good deal but it closed before I could up the bid to the next increment.
Jul 20, 2018 10:42 AM - Geof: Never used one, dont really hear to mucha bout them.
    Jul 20, 2018 10:42 AM - Geof: 1300 on amazon looks like
Jul 20, 2018 10:42 AM - daniel871: They were one of the few 3d printers made by a 2d printer company that mainly catered to businesses.
Jul 20, 2018 10:43 AM - daniel871: Their 3d printers had software on them that synced up with Solidworks and would take a file directly from it and slice it for printing.
Jul 20, 2018 10:43 AM - Geof: ah gotya. 1300 is pretty cheap for buisness grade machines.
Jul 20, 2018 10:43 AM - Geof: Thats interesting. Wonder what on board slicer they used.
Jul 20, 2018 10:43 AM - daniel871: It also had a bunch of other neat features on it.
Jul 20, 2018 10:45 AM - daniel871: The *only* negative about them is that they have the usual chipped filament cartridges.
Jul 20, 2018 10:46 AM - Geof: ah most that give an "ecosystem" do
Jul 20, 2018 10:46 AM - Geof: claiming for "100% successful printing" most times lol
Jul 20, 2018 10:46 AM - daniel871: Kind of reminded me of an Ultimaker2 but with an enclosure and the built-in Solidworks support.
    Jul 20, 2018 10:47 AM - daniel871: Ah, here's the product page: https://3dprinter.sindoh.com/en/product/dp200
Jul 20, 2018 10:49 AM - daniel871: Huh, they have one that takes open-filament. Just load the spool in the cartridge and tell it you're using open-source filament and adjust settings. https://3dprinter.sindoh.com/product/3dwox1
    Jul 20, 2018 10:53 AM - daniel871: LOL https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tiko-Model-1-3D-Printer-Original-Packaging-Never-Used/142843406217
Jul 20, 2018 11:14 AM - Geof: LOL! I figured everyone would have trash canned those by now
Jul 20, 2018 12:15 PM - daniel871: "I found this in a closet floor, guess I'll try to sell it on ebay"

Jul 24, 2018 10:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Funny I was on easrlier and nothing. Sometimes though I find remnents of Mark's clean up in the forum threads. I don't know why it is different but once in a while I see a spam thread that still shows but says deleted by Mark.
Jul 24, 2018 11:04 AM - Geof: I see that too. There is one by me today but I dont know how to get rid of it. all these showed up around 12:00 or so

Jul 24, 2018 11:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, I have come to a big decision for 2019. I am going to start saving up for a Fuse 1 unless something else comes out that is cheaper.
    Jul 24, 2018 12:00 PM - Geof: The SLS?
Jul 24, 2018 12:00 PM - Geof: have you looked at the Sinterit?

Jul 24, 2018 12:05 PM - WheresWaldo: The specs look nice, and it is cheaper than the Fuse 1. Have you had a chance to see one in person?
Jul 24, 2018 12:10 PM - Geof: Not in person but a good friend of mine who owns her own buisness bought one and said she loves it.
Jul 24, 2018 12:10 PM - Geof: She has the original. Not this new Lisa 2.
Jul 24, 2018 4:20 PM - Bultmann: bough this fairly cheap on ebay... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Robo-3D-R1-3D-Printer/323330794252 It's actually just an R1. needs ramps replacement, firmware upgrade.
Jul 24, 2018 4:21 PM - Bultmann: anyone know why the firmware site is down?
Jul 24, 2018 6:05 PM - WheresWaldo: The main site uses a differnt host than the forums, there is a problem on Robo's end
    Jul 24, 2018 6:14 PM - Bultmann: thanks Waldo

    Jul 27, 2018 6:26 AM - daniel871: Free registration until November 2nd, after that it's $50 to get in each day. https://www.fabtechexpo.com/

Jul 27, 2018 1:41 PM - Madison Trojanowski: anyone know how to remove/change filament on a Robo 1+?
Jul 27, 2018 3:17 PM - mark tomlinson: Pull back on the spring loaded clip and pull it out. Or (like we lazy folks do) carefully back out the screws entirely and then pull it up and out. Put the screws back (carefully) when done. They are spring loaded so don't let them become ballistic :)
