So this morning I go to pull off a printed part of the glass bed, and noticed that chunks of glass just came off stuck to my printed part and now there are chunks off missing glass right in the middle of the print bed. What happened and why? I have not changed the bed temp from its default value, I have only been printing with PLA and I only been applying the glue that came with the printer. I cannot believe that the glass is this weak. I contacted support since I am still under warranty (newbie here) and the bed is not covered under it. That was very disappointing to hear. They offered a discount but still. I guess my question is what should I be doing to avoid this in the future? Also what can I do in the mean time to continue printing? if I put the blue tape over it will the gap now mess up all my prints?

Sometimes this just happens. Contact robo and they will likely give you a break on a new glass bed. You can order a new sheet of borosilicate glass from places like mcmastercarr but it's a huge PITA to get the heater off and restick

Just put a thin sheet of plate glass over the bed.

@mark tomlinson will plain glass hold up to the pressure from the autolevel on its own ? Always been curious but never tried :)

Yes, plate will work. Tempered will work...
Even a thin sheet (like 1/8" or so).

Frankly you could use lexan for all that matters.

If you use the heated bed it will take slightly longer to get to temp. Only downside I noticed.

    So something like this will work? Lexan Sheet - Polycarbonate - .030" - 1/32" Thick, Clear, 12" x 12"

    https://www.amazon.com/Lexan-Sheet-...&qid=1465995063&sr=8-1&keywords=polycarbonate

How would you suggest securing the Polycarbonate or glass to the bed?

Lots of people use binder clips. That may be a solution. I use it on build plates and it works well

    Should work fine.

Exactly. On the original Robo that is what we replaced their flimsy plastic clips with and it works fine.
Would work fine for this as well.

Thanks for all the advice, ROBO support was great, they are shipping me a replacement bed for a discounted price, I ordered the LEXAN sheet but I was worried that eventually when I try printing with ABS it wont hold up to the additional heat. I will look for a glass cover as well when the new bed arrives. Thanks again everyone!

I just wanted to be sure, if I cover the bed with LEXAN, do I then still put the blue tape on the LEXAN or use the glue stick like on the glass bed?

You should experiment, but anything you would normally use on the glass is fine.
I just use Aquanet any more, but before blue-tape and glue stick was my solution.
Works fine on glass or Lexan.

I just came from Lowes with a new plate of glass after cracking my bed.

What changes if any would I make to my settings on my LCD full display and my sclicer (mattercontrol)?? Thanks

in matter control you should probably adjust your max z (dont know where that is in MC, I dont use it) if you plan to print that tall (max height) to compensate for the glass thickness. Other than that, nothing.
