Quieting Down the Power Supply Fan

Please note this is not a permanent solution but it will make the sound coming out of the power brick less pronounced. I do not recommend this as an end user modification. beware when working with power supplies of shock. This is what I personally did, no endorsement is implied.

1. Unplug the power supply and let the LED completely go dark
2. There are four rubber feet on bottom that are friction fit into holes, pry those out
   The feet cover where the screws are located.
3. Remove the four screws and pry apart the top and bottom halves of the power supply
   Pretty easy as the halves are not glued together
4. On the end with the LED and just behind it you will see a fan (there is only one)
5. Peel off the label on the fan to reveal the fan spindle
6. Use a sticky type of lubricant that will not be easily cast off when the fan spins up
   Motorcycle or bicycle chain lubricant would be ideal
7. Use more than one single drop but don't soak it in lubricant
8. Reassemble the two halves power supply case and replace the rubber feet

You should notice right away that the fan is much quieter, it is not quiet but it won't be screaming either. Just as a note if you want to replace the fan; the fan is glued in place, but the two glue spots can be cleaned up and the fan removed; the fan wires are soldered directly to the circuit board. The power supply is surrounded by a metal ground plane that is soldered on the bottom and folded around the supply circuitry and under that is a black plastic insulator also folded around the frame, those have to be bent back to remove and replace the fan.

The fan specifications are 24V 0.6A and 40 mm square by 15 mm deep.
