I posted about this awhile back, but I have since made changes and it is still doing it.

Basically I have a Flashforge Dreamer with a DuetWifi board and Titan extruder with E3D v6 hotend.

It prints better than ever when it works, but part way through a print it will start grinding the filament and I have to pull the filament out and re-load it.

I have tried reducing retraction down to 0.8 mm even.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm kind of at a loss.

Is it specific to a type of filament?

So far all I've tried is PLA, but I have tried multiple different spools of it. I've also tried a few different models.

Well try seasoning the hotend (or just add a crude oiler to see of that helps).

PLA binding like that is almost always just PLA being 'PLA' and that is what an oiler is for ;)

Okay, I will look into that as I've never done that in the past.

    Appreciate the help.

May not have needed it :)
It is really extruder/nozzle specific. I did not need it initially until I first swapped nozzles then *boom* clog city :)

Ah okay. Any tips on how to do it?

I'm sure I can look it up, but thought I would ask.

Really it is not more difficult than opening the filament feed and remove filament, heat the extruder, dip filament in vegetable oil, manually feed it in, pull it out and repeat that a few times. Then button it back up and try printing. If that helps (the seasoning) then add a oiler since seasoning should be redone "periodically". The oiler just constantly reseasons. Only PLA needs an oiler, but I have never found a filament that it will adversely affect so I never take mine off.

Must be vegetable oil, canola is some of the best due to the higher smoke point.
It will not affect print adhesion because you ONLY want a tiny amount if oil even if using an oiler. Not enough to get past the nozzle -- it should all flash away in the nozzle.

Best way to describe using an oiler is that once the filament comes out of it there should be a very fine "sheen" of oil on the filament.

The cool thing about this is that it is easy to try :) Seasoning is a 10 minute exercise and if it helps, it helps.
Once I got bitten by it and figured it out (YAY! for Interwebs!) I have not had a problem with it since.
