The cold end fan and LEDS I run direct to the 12V side of the powersupply now. Takes some wires off the ramps board and the powersupply is more than capable :D. I dont know if that will be easier for you, but it was for me.

Ok, I understand now, I need to go back and take a look the the diagram to see where to plug the fan that blows on the printed part that I would control through the slicer. For some reason, I thought all the fans were plugged into the 12v running a 100 percent.

Everything works as it should but I my X stepper motor moves extremely to fast for any type of precision. Do I need to go calibrate the x-motors with the new board? If so are there any links? Other than that, it is another successful mod.

Did you make sure you put the jumpers under the stepper driver?
sounds like that ones missing theirs so the steps are wrong :D

Excellent point the jumpers control the microstepping and if you forget them it will only do non-microstepping (full steps) or if you forget some of them it will be using too large of a microsteps :)

It can be upside down but remove that middle jumper and make sure it has the metal prong on it. I dont see it in the picture. If its a defective jumper without the prong it could be causing a headache.

The Jumper was the problem. I replaced the jumper with another spare I had on hand and it fixed the problem. This mod is complete. Thank you so much for your help. It is well worth the modification. Your support has been quick and fast. I am now back to printing again.

    Thanks,

    Tom

As I have mentioned in other threads/forums, with any board that cheap -- your YMMV :)
Last year I have a point where I needed a new RAMPS and I bought 3 from various vendors (all under $15) just to see...
I got one that actually worked. I have in the past bought 2 of the All-in-one kits from Amazon sellers and in both cases -- everything worked. So, YMMV*

    *Your Mileage May vary

So what are you recommending, if any? The SainSmart boards seemed to get bad reviews due to MOSFETs burning. Rob is not going to provide a replacement board anytime soon if at all and their new parts provider can't get them, so I appear to be on my own. I''m even considering a 1.6 board in order to avoid heat problems, but...

I have no problem spending more for better boards, BTW.

It isn't so much "brands" as it is they are cheap boards cheaply made ....
At that price point nobody is doing QA. They make them, they ship them, often they work :)

I still use Arduino/RAMPS on most of my printers (5 out of 8) and on all of the R1 style...
I don't use it on the Delta, don't use it on the SLA and I haven't converted the C2 yet ..
Even the DLP we built uses that combo to drive one stepper (the Z).

I always buy the combo kits from Amazon ant more. Here are some examples:

    https://smile.amazon.com/kuman-Printer-Controller-Arduino-Starter/dp/B016D6DSBW
    https://smile.amazon.com/Aokin-Printer-Controller-Arduino-Heatsink/dp/B07Q5R6YSK
    https://smile.amazon.com/Printer-Controller-Kit-Arduino-Upgraded/dp/B019TNELNU

    there are more.

I personally have not had a bad RAMPS board that I got in a combo kit. Maybe (total guess) they actually check those parts.

If you convert to an all-in-one board (like a Smoothie board) that is another option. We use that on the Delta since it is doing enough computing to use a 32-bit processor.
