As I was experimenting with different materials (Nylon, T-Glase, etc.) printing on my RoBo with E3D hotend, I followed the very common recommendation of printing T-Glase directly on heated bed at 70-80C, to get a nice smooth and shiny glass-like bottom of the print...

After several attempts that failed mid-print for some other reason (I'll probably have another thread to discuss that), the last one came off the bed after cooling off, chipping the glass bed in the process! See attached pictures.

    So, couple questions:

    1. Should it be safe to print directly on the borosil bed - any material in general or T-Glase specifically?
    2. What can I do to replace the glass? Is it a tech support matter? Are there parts available for sale from RoBo3D?

They will sell you a new heated bed if you contact them. I had to replace mine after a spool of filament fell on it.

That's interesting, did it take force to get the print off the bed? My suggestion (what I do) would be to get a piece of glass to go over the heated bed, I use 4 binder clips to hold it in place and this way if it chips, cracks, or anything else it is much cheaper to replace. Contact Jerry via the support ticket function and he'll get back to you pretty quickly.

No force - I let the print cool down and the object came off on its own. But I heard some loud pops when it was cooling down, so I guess it was due to the glass and the print expanding and contracting differently...

Whoa! Good excuse for me to stay with painters tape o_O
I am usually not patient enough to wait on a cool down either.

Yeah, I always print on painters tape in PLA and PHA. Nylon and T-Glase don't stick to it very good, so I was using a glue stick with Nylon. And T-Glase sticks nicely directly to heated glass and comes off on its own when cooled, and looks nice and polished - never heard of chipping the glass though, I guess I'm the first one :)
Once I replace by glass bed, I'll be trying some Kapton tape for T-Glase prints... :)

I'm not sure yet, but it looks like I'm in the same boat. I have a print running, and I just noticed what looks like a small divot in the glass.

    :(

I've had great adhesion, and I'm just letting the parts pop off on their own. Printing PLA at 80C bed temp with hair spray.

Only for materials that I knew could bond TOO well with the glass. I have had good luck of late with hairspray as a release agent and haven't had to resort to tape in a while. That post you referred to was from mark tomlinson,May 8, 2014 :)

I am in the same boat (chipped glass). I was thinking of replacing it with a Geckotech bed, but not sure of which one to get and in looking through the forums I could not find any specifics, anyone have some recommendations?

Can you provide a link to what your looking at? Not sure I'm familiar with a bed from geckoteck, just the bed "sheets" that you stick onto your existing bed?

Ah yes I do recall that. Been awhile lol. You can always reach out and ask them, occasionally vendors take stuff off their site but still have a few kickin around.
