Okay, which bearings are you using?

Ok I figured out where the issue is. The screw holes in the block are dead on with the originals and since the rods are .9mm further apart at the blocks then at the end pieces, I need to put the original bearings back in then mod the blocks moving the 15.9mm bearing holes .45 mm towards the bed center (or I suppose I could just reprint one of them moved the full .9mm)

In any case, I have confirmed this is the cause of the binding at each end of the Y axis. The 8 screws holes in the block are so perfectly aligned that it just makes more sense to just move the bearings.

    Will let you know...

Got the new straight rod in and the sintered bearings work amazingly well! Cheap, simple upgrade. The noise reduction alone is worth the time.

I did however end up using the modified pillow blocks with the elongated holes for adjusting the blocks.

They are also the same thickness as the originals so there is no need to adjust the belt gear/pulleys.

Yea there are a lot of little extra things they could have done to minimize the noise and they didn't (probably in favor of cheap as they could get it).

@Wesley Knapp, I am glad you also included the Solidworks file for people that want an easier way to modify it.

    ?
I didn't post this on thingiverse. Your original block did and I should have used your design and modified it (removed 1mm from top and bottom each) for 1 of the blocks. As I see it, two adjustable pillow blocks makes it too easy to make the bed off-square. One fixed and 1 adjustable would be ideal. Since I will be removing them again one day, I think I'll make the mod and print one for when that day comes.
And thanks for the upgrade instructions to begin with!

I'm playing a bit of catch up, since I only got my R1+ in October 2018, but it sounds like they ship with 4x LM8UU linear bearings on the Y-axis? Are the LM8UU the cause of the Y-axis vertical wobble and do these bushings everyone's talking about solve that wobble? Are there higher quality LM8UU's that anyones switched to which removes the wobble without having to print new holders for the bronze bushings?

Seems a bit counterintuitive to remove linear bearings for bushings.

I did part of that and just replaced all of the bearings after a couple of years. Sorted it for mine.
There are a lot of LM8UU bearings in that machine (the X axis has 4 and the Z has a couple for the smooth rods)

    They used really cheap ones.

    Interesting.

How about these similar style Igus linear bearings, does anyone have experience with them? Seems like you could get away with a printed housing on these, vs their standard Igus linear bearings which need a press fit precision housing.

@WheresWaldo is the only one I know who tried alternatives to the LM8UU (not saying that others didn't -- I just don't remember)

Igus bearings have a couple of issues, 1. they are loose and must be compressed in order to be the correct size, 2. they suffer from what we call Stiction, where they require more force to allow movement to start than when it is already moving. I am not seeing where they are an advantage in this application.

Not at all. These are made for this purpose and are sintered. Meaning they have lubrication inserted which becomes part of the molecular structure of the metal. They have a longer life expectancy, they are SUPER quiet, cut out ALL wobble, a very simple replacement and very worthwhile IMO

Look through their online store. I'm not positive I used that link but I did get another set from them just last week.
