See photo - I keep adjusting my extruder temps and bed temps to no avail!

Your first layer is more of a concern to me than your second. You should not have gaps between like that. The skirt lines should be right smashed together along with the lines filling the circle. You have something off. Can you give us some detail about your machine? Beta, R1, R1+, what firmware and when last updated, what mods, what slicer software, etc. Thank you.

Ok looking at the pic again looks like you have the R1 and maybe the new leadscrews?

Z steps could be wrong. Have you updated the firmware at any point?
If so you may have used the wrong version.

I've got the R1+ model, unsure about the leadscrews, I use matter control, and I am not sure when I last updated the firmware. However, I don't recall how to even do that! :) I haven't been using the machine much lately because we recently moved so it's been some time! But I'm finally back up and trying to get it going again.

And the last print I just tried was much better on the first layer, however the second layer did the same thing. And I noticed when I went to cancel the print, the extruder temp was much lower than what it should be and was attempting to get back up to 195 - what would cause it to change temps after I've already set everything?

I've got a folder that I saved back on 05/21/2016 entitled ROBO3DR1V3_06112015. The folder I just downloaded from the link you sent is ROBO3DR1PLUSV2.........is this newer than what I already have? I'm only confused because of the V2 vs. V3 on the end of the names of the files......

One is for the R1 and the other for the R1+ (look at the names)

The one for the R1 will not work correctly in the R1+ (Z steps will be way wrong so the layers will not stick)

Wow, I'm really paying attention huh? ;-)

And I just go through arduino for this right? Sorry, it's been a really long time since I've done this! :)

I guess my only other question would be, how do I know if I uploaded the firmware correctly? I assume there's a place I can check that, just not sure where :)

Not that I am aware of.

If you do not get any errors uploading and it responds to commands then it is fine.

Much better...now it is just dialing it in. What speed are you printing the first layer? What are you using for bed adhesion?

Yes - in matter control it will tell you on the settings page the name of the firmware you just installed.

Well this helped a lot. Thank goodness for old forums. After a few hours of tweaking I nearly lost my mind when my PLA started printing as if it were freakin FABRIC. A little sanity restored. Not all but some. Turns out when I edited my gcode I downloaded the R1 and not the R1+.

It is an easy mistake to make -- they labeled/named the printers poorly
