1:20 they start talking about using the 14 because it's a smaller lighter stepper motor

If it will mount you can use any of them.
The NEMA-17 spec defines what the faceplate/mounting point looks like. How it bolts-on essentially.
    A Nema-14 might be close enough <shrug> I can't say.

ditto also unsure. You can get a light oz nema 17, just unsure if you'll get the additional torque you want stepping down in weight. You'll have to shop around.

Certainly you do not normally need Nema-17 for extrusion and by the time you add a GrehsWade onto it (which is geared to hades and back) you are overkill for extruding on most of the Robos. The C2 does not use this arrangement (although it still uses the Nema-17 motors). Those are common because they are cheap (and cheap because everyone uses them).

The 14 is alot smaller you could make a 17 work if you drilled new holes which might be better cause the nema 14 is very hot to touch even with correct voltage going to it also if you do this you will have to go into firmware and reverse the x axis but that's easy enough

Did you change the rod for the x carriage? I printed it all out but the rods are too short.
