Apr 24, 2015 9:45 AM - jbigler1986: i have no clue what a good price is on that. haven't really looked
    Apr 24, 2015 9:48 AM - Mike Kelly: that's kind of a lot
Apr 24, 2015 9:48 AM - Mike Kelly: but it does include the stepper motor
Apr 24, 2015 9:56 AM - mark tomlinson: BOM says it does
Apr 24, 2015 9:56 AM - mark tomlinson: Still pricey
Apr 24, 2015 9:57 AM - Mike Kelly: just asked if he was gonna do hardware only
Apr 24, 2015 9:58 AM - Stephen Capistron: i'm confused. the bondtech site still is showing it as in beta
Apr 24, 2015 9:58 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah me too
Apr 24, 2015 9:58 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm chatting with martin right now

Apr 24, 2015 10:07 AM - Mike Kelly: marin bondeus
Apr 24, 2015 10:07 AM - Stephen Capistron: ok. so bondtech. not the dude in texas
Apr 24, 2015 10:08 AM - donhuevo: I didn't see where you release the tension to load filament
Apr 24, 2015 10:09 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah you don't see it becuase it doesn't exist :)
    Apr 24, 2015 10:09 AM - donhuevo: hmmm
Apr 24, 2015 10:11 AM - Mike Kelly: might be possible to design a pivot for the idler gear to pull away
Apr 24, 2015 10:12 AM - donhuevo: are you supposed to feed it in with the motor?
    Apr 24, 2015 10:13 AM - Mike Kelly: i believe that's the design intent
Apr 24, 2015 10:13 AM - donhuevo: not fun for someone who wanted to use a bowden tube w/ it
    Apr 24, 2015 10:14 AM - Stephen Capistron: G1 E10000000000000000
Apr 24, 2015 10:14 AM - donhuevo: that would make it fun I guess
    Apr 24, 2015 10:14 AM - jbigler1986: lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah though for as many skipped steps as i get with the cyclops i'd give up a lot for better drive strength
Apr 24, 2015 10:15 AM - donhuevo: are you still bowden?
Apr 24, 2015 10:16 AM - Mike Kelly: have to be yes

Apr 24, 2015 10:16 AM - jbigler1986: it's allowing to do next day shipping. so seems as though it's in stock unless they will let you know after you place the order
Apr 24, 2015 10:16 AM - donhuevo: all that direct-drive stuff you've been drawing, I started to worry
    Apr 24, 2015 10:17 AM - Mike Kelly: it's a beta extruder
    Apr 24, 2015 10:18 AM - jbigler1986: still
Apr 24, 2015 10:18 AM - WayUpNorthMN: So yeah, I am back in the game with printing :D
Apr 24, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Kelly: i still want the hybrid option for if i try and print with flexibles
Apr 24, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Kelly: and if i could get better feed rates i could print faster
Apr 24, 2015 10:19 AM - Mike Kelly: don't know why i'm getting so much slippage it's annoying
Apr 24, 2015 10:19 AM - donhuevo: still using the ezstruder?
    Apr 24, 2015 10:19 AM - Mike Kelly: nope
Apr 24, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Kelly: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/mike-kellys-printer.1681/page-9#post-41963 variation of the HercuStruder for duals
Apr 24, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Kelly: i also swapped my hobbed filament gears to be from ultibots
Apr 24, 2015 10:23 AM - donhuevo: looks good. Has to be the cyclops that's the problem
Apr 24, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Kelly: yup i'm not the only one to experience this
Apr 24, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Kelly: it requires a pretty significant amount of torque
Apr 24, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Kelly: like once it's going it's good, but starting and stopping is hard on it
Apr 24, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Kelly: so retractions etc suffer
Apr 24, 2015 10:24 AM - donhuevo: I don't see how a second hobbed pulley will give you more grip
    Apr 24, 2015 10:24 AM - donhuevo: if it's free-spinning
    Apr 24, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Kelly: it's not free spinning it's geared
    Apr 24, 2015 10:25 AM - Mike Kelly: http://cdn3.bigcommerce.com/s-xcbs9s/product_images/uploaded_images/bondtech2.jpg?t=1427317937
Apr 24, 2015 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: he's also done like 3-4 generations to figure out the design of the hobbed portion to not deform the material
Apr 24, 2015 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: it's pretty well designed imo
Apr 24, 2015 10:29 AM - jbigler1986: "ust to check, I put it back to -.48 and it was now dragging on the glass. I'm now at -.46 and it's still dragging on the glass."
    Apr 24, 2015 10:29 AM - Mike Kelly: lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:29 AM - jbigler1986: can we put somewhere which way to adjust the number
Apr 24, 2015 10:30 AM - jbigler1986: it was dragging the glass so i lowered it more. lol
    Apr 24, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Kelly: lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Kelly: double negatives are hard!
Apr 24, 2015 10:31 AM - jbigler1986: i get his thought process I did it myself. But if you change it one way and that made it worse try going the other way
Apr 24, 2015 10:32 AM - Mike Kelly: Try once and fail, never try again
    Apr 24, 2015 10:32 AM - jbigler1986: lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:32 AM - jbigler1986: i have done it a bunch myself. i try to raise it and i lower it. then i'm lick shit. wrong way. then do the opposite
    Apr 24, 2015 10:33 AM - jbigler1986: lick shit. wtf
    Apr 24, 2015 10:33 AM - jbigler1986: like*
Apr 24, 2015 10:33 AM - Mike Kelly: please do not lick fecal matter
Apr 24, 2015 10:34 AM - donhuevo: I think that's what she said in the 2 girls and a cup video
    Apr 24, 2015 10:35 AM - jbigler1986: I really should start proof reading before I press enter
    Apr 24, 2015 10:35 AM - Mike Glass: lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Kelly: ever heard of putting flash cards near the camera?
Apr 24, 2015 10:41 AM - Mike Kelly: also wearing a florida cap, but going to citadel?
    Apr 24, 2015 10:42 AM - WayUpNorthMN: So mike
    Apr 24, 2015 10:42 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I got my printer "working"
    Apr 24, 2015 10:42 AM - Mike Kelly: cool
    Apr 24, 2015 10:42 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I'll just say this: Zipties are a god-send.
Apr 24, 2015 10:42 AM - Mike Kelly: new fan came in?
Apr 24, 2015 10:43 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Nope, I am using my replacement fan for my hex nozzle on the E3D; Just zip-tied it on for now, and ran another PID
Apr 24, 2015 10:43 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I will get the other fan soon.
Apr 24, 2015 10:43 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Which leads me to a question. Would you happen to knw of a 30mm to 25mm fan adapter?
    Apr 24, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Kelly: nope
Apr 24, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Kelly: best just to wait till you get the replacement 30mm
Apr 24, 2015 10:44 AM - donhuevo: that might be fun to design
    Apr 24, 2015 10:44 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Hmm. Okay, I'll make one :)
Apr 24, 2015 10:45 AM - jbigler1986: one screw tight enough should hold it fine
Apr 24, 2015 10:46 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Well, it seems to work well for now, but I did just purchase 2 30mm fans, but 5 more days is a long time to wait without printing.
    Apr 24, 2015 10:46 AM - jbigler1986: i say that because that's how mine it now. lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:46 AM - WayUpNorthMN: In my case anyway.
    Apr 24, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Kelly: jb's got a good idea there
Apr 24, 2015 10:47 AM - Mike Kelly: though i think zip ties would be fine
Apr 24, 2015 10:47 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I could model up a quick face plate to allow total seal-age (grammar)
Apr 24, 2015 10:47 AM - Mike Kelly: that would also be easy
Apr 24, 2015 10:47 AM - Mike Kelly: i think sealing is the word you'd use there
Apr 24, 2015 10:48 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I just need the exact dimensions of a 30mm fan, including placement for the screw holes..
    Apr 24, 2015 10:49 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I'm just happy that I am getting results. :)
    Apr 24, 2015 10:50 AM - jbigler1986: do you have calipers?
    Apr 24, 2015 10:50 AM - jbigler1986: measure measure measure
    Apr 24, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.ezcfn.com/dc_fan/fp_108st_dc.html
    Apr 24, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Kelly: they're standardized
    Apr 24, 2015 10:51 AM - Mike Kelly: http://img.weiku.com/a/005/055/25mm_5v_12v_small_mini_dc_fan_8632_1.jpg
Apr 24, 2015 10:52 AM - jbigler1986: but if you want to start designing stuff you should get some calipers
Apr 24, 2015 10:52 AM - Mike Kelly: he has some
    Apr 24, 2015 10:52 AM - jbigler1986: oh
    Apr 24, 2015 10:53 AM - jbigler1986: fine then
Apr 24, 2015 10:53 AM - jbigler1986: is it time to leave yet
    Apr 24, 2015 10:53 AM - Mike Kelly: man i wish
    Apr 24, 2015 10:54 AM - WayUpNorthMN: ?
Apr 24, 2015 10:55 AM - WayUpNorthMN: You guys going to the 3D print show?
Apr 24, 2015 10:55 AM - Mike Kelly: no he means work
    Apr 24, 2015 10:55 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Ah lol
Apr 24, 2015 10:58 AM - Stephen Capistron: getting close to quitting time here
Apr 24, 2015 10:59 AM - jbigler1986: MK did you get the robo setup?
Apr 24, 2015 11:03 AM - Mike Kelly: no i watched the red wings blow it
Apr 24, 2015 11:03 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm gonna clean up my garage a bit and try and get a space ready for it
Apr 24, 2015 11:04 AM - Mike Kelly: i can't decide if i should put it between my two printers or off to the right side on a second table
    Apr 24, 2015 11:07 AM - WayUpNorthMN: #firstworldproblems
Apr 24, 2015 11:07 AM - Mike Kelly: very much so
    Apr 24, 2015 11:09 AM - Mike Kelly: [IMG]
Apr 24, 2015 11:15 AM - jbigler1986: what other printer do you have at home?
Apr 24, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Kelly: btw i generally use .5 but then again i print in ABS which tends to shrink more
Apr 24, 2015 11:16 AM - jbigler1986: late to the show on that one. lol
    Apr 24, 2015 11:17 AM - Mike Kelly: a replicator 2
Apr 24, 2015 11:17 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i was reading over yesterdays log
Apr 24, 2015 11:17 AM - jbigler1986: well i did .5 on the tool holder but there was to much of a gap
Apr 24, 2015 11:17 AM - WayUpNorthMN: does 25000 baud not work on OctoPrint? It always tends to stop the print mid-way
    Apr 24, 2015 11:18 AM - jbigler1986: i scrapped my octoprint setup
Apr 24, 2015 11:19 AM - jbigler1986: are you printing from sd with octoprint?
Apr 24, 2015 11:19 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Straight from the Pi
    Apr 24, 2015 11:20 AM - Mike Kelly: 250,000 not 25,000
    Apr 24, 2015 11:21 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Yeah, sorry
Apr 24, 2015 11:24 AM - jbigler1986: don't print directly from the pi. it's not powerful and also you need to disable screensaver and sleep mode

Apr 24, 2015 11:25 AM - WayUpNorthMN: So, "Error: Extruder Switched off" is a normal thing on Octo, isn't it?
Apr 24, 2015 11:26 AM - Mike Kelly: don't know on that, but it's a common error depending on what's triggering it
Apr 24, 2015 11:34 AM - jbigler1986: are you using the pi to slice as well?
    Apr 24, 2015 11:36 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Oh, no.
    Apr 24, 2015 11:36 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Cura
Apr 24, 2015 11:37 AM - jbigler1986: yeah save it to the sd card then print from the sd card in octoprint. that way if something happens on the pi it will still print
Apr 24, 2015 11:38 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Octo seems like a quite buggy system
Apr 24, 2015 11:41 AM - jbigler1986: it's the pi. just not quite strong enough
    Apr 24, 2015 11:45 AM - Stephen Capistron: even the B?
    Apr 24, 2015 11:47 AM - jbigler1986: yep. i have the b+ and it's just not powerful enough.
Apr 24, 2015 11:51 AM - jbigler1986: have gone on to use it with other things. still looking into a small pc that will handler SW, streaming video and slicing
Apr 24, 2015 11:55 AM - Stephen Capistron: i have two instances of CREO running right now. Combined they are pulling 3.5 gigs of memory

    Apr 24, 2015 11:55 AM - jbigler1986: thinking this little guy
Apr 24, 2015 11:57 AM - Mike Kelly: is that a lot or a little stephen? seems like little
Apr 24, 2015 11:58 AM - Stephen Capistron: it's CREO, so no history to load
Apr 24, 2015 12:02 PM - jbigler1986: maybe i should just build a mini atx. kind of tired of building pc's atm though
Apr 24, 2015 12:03 PM - Mike Kelly: tired of building pcs? there's another way of getting a good computer?
    Apr 24, 2015 12:03 PM - jbigler1986: nope
    Apr 24, 2015 12:06 PM - jbigler1986: can't remember the last time i bought a prebuilt one
    Apr 24, 2015 12:08 PM - Mike Kelly: besides laptops i haven't had a prebuilt one since 1999
Apr 24, 2015 12:14 PM - WayUpNorthMN: If I am using blue tape, do I even need to preheat my bed?
    Apr 24, 2015 12:15 PM - jbigler1986: abs yes. pla it helps
    Apr 24, 2015 12:38 PM - jbigler1986: anyone printing anything
    Apr 24, 2015 12:43 PM - Mike Kelly: i am not
Apr 24, 2015 12:44 PM - jbigler1986: how is the motor and transmission going
Apr 24, 2015 12:45 PM - Mike Kelly: i printed the oil pan the other day
Apr 24, 2015 12:45 PM - Mike Kelly: i need to set a long print to run while i'm gone
Apr 24, 2015 12:48 PM - Mike Kelly: looks like the head is 22 hours or so
    Apr 24, 2015 12:49 PM - jbigler1986: hmmm
Apr 24, 2015 12:50 PM - jbigler1986: remind me to check that filament later
    Apr 24, 2015 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: ok
    Apr 24, 2015 12:55 PM - jbigler1986: i have a horrible memory
Apr 24, 2015 12:56 PM - Stephen Capistron: WEEEEEEEE. time to go home
Apr 24, 2015 12:58 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah my memory is really bad as well
Apr 24, 2015 12:58 PM - Mike Kelly: i wouldn't have been able to get through engineering if i had to rely on what i could remember
    Apr 24, 2015 1:00 PM - jbigler1986: another hour for me
    Apr 24, 2015 1:00 PM - Mike Kelly: 3 :(
Apr 24, 2015 1:00 PM - Mike Kelly: i think i'm leaving early to help a friend move some stuff out of storage
    Apr 24, 2015 1:01 PM - jbigler1986: meth lab?
Apr 24, 2015 1:01 PM - jbigler1986: oh sorry. that was someone else.
    Apr 24, 2015 1:01 PM - Mike Kelly: haha
    Apr 24, 2015 1:02 PM - jbigler1986: breaking bad FTW
Apr 24, 2015 1:02 PM - Mike Kelly: i need to finish that, gets too depressing though
Apr 24, 2015 1:03 PM - jbigler1986: yes at times it can be. where did you leave off
    Apr 24, 2015 1:03 PM - Mike Kelly: i honestly don't remember
Apr 24, 2015 1:04 PM - Mike Kelly: i think we made it through season 2
Apr 24, 2015 1:04 PM - Mike Kelly: so not very far
    Apr 24, 2015 1:04 PM - jbigler1986: oh man. it's get better
Apr 24, 2015 1:05 PM - jbigler1986: I have seen them all. just got my wife into it so started over. we are almost done with season 2
Apr 24, 2015 1:05 PM - jbigler1986: hanks beer belly cracks me up
Apr 24, 2015 1:06 PM - Mike Kelly: ok so i lied, we only got through 4 episodes of 2
    Apr 24, 2015 1:06 PM - jbigler1986: Gotta call Saul!
Apr 24, 2015 1:06 PM - jbigler1986: shit wait. not sure if you are there yet
    Apr 24, 2015 1:06 PM - jbigler1986: i will stop
    Apr 24, 2015 1:07 PM - Mike Kelly: nope
Apr 24, 2015 1:07 PM - Mike Kelly: i've heard of that stuff but yeah no clue on any of that
Apr 24, 2015 1:14 PM - jbigler1986: did you look at my SW file i posted last night?
Apr 24, 2015 1:14 PM - jbigler1986: just wanted to see if i did it correctly
Apr 24, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: question for you. If I want to add an angled piece do I need to create a plane on that angle or can i just angler the sketch/extruded boss
Apr 24, 2015 1:18 PM - Mike Kelly: you can do an angled cut
Apr 24, 2015 1:19 PM - Mike Kelly: i typically only use planes for making lofts or if there's no reference geometry i can draw off of
Apr 24, 2015 1:22 PM - jbigler1986: so say i have a square box. I want to add a rectangle piece on the bottom to act as a stand. Can I just create it at a 90 degree angle then rotate is or whatever to the desired angle
Apr 24, 2015 1:23 PM - Mike Kelly: uh i'm having trouble visualizing that
Apr 24, 2015 1:23 PM - jbigler1986: not sure if that makes sense as an example
Apr 24, 2015 1:23 PM - jbigler1986: take my nozzle holder for example
Apr 24, 2015 1:24 PM - jbigler1986: the back recatangle piece. say instead of it coming straight down i wanted to angle say 20 degrees
Apr 24, 2015 1:25 PM - Mike Kelly: i'd just draw the shape freehand
Apr 24, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: not sure how to do that. i just sketch on top of sketches
    Apr 24, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: guess i need to google/youtube that
    Apr 24, 2015 1:26 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm
    Apr 24, 2015 1:28 PM - Mike Kelly: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6e5l01ow08rszb/angles.PNG?dl=0 like this?
    Apr 24, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: exactly
Apr 24, 2015 1:29 PM - Mike Kelly: i pretty much use the first 3 planes onlye
Apr 24, 2015 1:32 PM - Mike Kelly: and faces
Apr 24, 2015 1:32 PM - Mike Kelly: drives me crazy when people use a lot of planes, just use the offset tool!
Apr 24, 2015 1:33 PM - jbigler1986: see for me i would have started that part on the front plane. then i would have sketched one side. then sketched the next side on off of that side. then i would be stumped on making the next one at an angle
    Apr 24, 2015 1:33 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
Apr 24, 2015 1:33 PM - Mike Kelly: knowing where to start is tricky and just takes practice
Apr 24, 2015 1:34 PM - Mike Kelly: i always did the "ok make a part, now make it again using less steps"
Apr 24, 2015 1:34 PM - jbigler1986: it looks like the one you just did was all one step correct?
    Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: correct
Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: 3 lines and an extrusion, using the thin featur
    Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: where is that tool
Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: no need to muck about with drawing an entire closed contour
Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: it's part of the extrude feature, it only shows up when you begin to make the extrusion
Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: that would save me a ton of time
Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: can't go in and add it after the fact
Apr 24, 2015 1:35 PM - Mike Kelly: i use it a lot, very helpful
    Apr 24, 2015 1:36 PM - jbigler1986: i know. saying from starting from scratch
Apr 24, 2015 1:36 PM - jbigler1986: i guess i did kind of do that on my slice. duh
Apr 24, 2015 1:37 PM - jbigler1986: i kept thinking that after every line i made i had to make a new sketch. woops
    Apr 24, 2015 1:38 PM - Mike Kelly: lmao
Apr 24, 2015 1:38 PM - Mike Kelly: you sound like team robo
Apr 24, 2015 1:38 PM - Mike Kelly: "I can't possible draw all these cross hatches in one sketch!"
    Apr 24, 2015 1:40 PM - jbigler1986: i'm taking baby steps
Apr 24, 2015 1:43 PM - jbigler1986: you can make one side a different thickness than another that way though right?
    Apr 24, 2015 1:43 PM - jbigler1986: can't*
    Apr 24, 2015 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: na
Apr 24, 2015 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: for that you'd want to do a closed contour

    Apr 24, 2015 1:44 PM - jbigler1986: that's what i though
Apr 24, 2015 1:45 PM - Mike Kelly: thin feature is most helpful when everything is the same dimension
Apr 24, 2015 1:45 PM - Mike Kelly: or thickness i should say
Apr 24, 2015 1:48 PM - jbigler1986: well i have been making stuff more complicated than i should have
Apr 24, 2015 1:56 PM - Mike Kelly: easy to do
Apr 24, 2015 2:26 PM - Mike Kelly: god removing 3 valves and replacing them with check valves results in an insanely complicated tube pattern
    Apr 24, 2015 2:50 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah you lost me. Lol
Apr 24, 2015 2:51 PM - Mike Glass: Is it time yet?
    Apr 24, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Kelly: man i wish
Apr 24, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Kelly: and i volunteered to help a friend move stuff
    Apr 24, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Kelly: and it's raining
Apr 24, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Kelly: god dammit
Apr 24, 2015 2:52 PM - Mike Glass: Yep raining her also Mike
Apr 24, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Kelly: for as far apart as we are our weather patterns are oddly consistent
Apr 24, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Glass: I've been working this afternoon in the rain taking down radio equipment.
Apr 24, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Glass: Yeah were in the Rockies
    Apr 24, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Kelly: ouch
Apr 24, 2015 2:54 PM - jbigler1986: Not raining here yet. Starting at midnight
Apr 24, 2015 2:55 PM - Mike Glass: just a light drizzle, nice to have it though, we need it bad.
Apr 24, 2015 2:56 PM - Mike Glass: Mike did you start printing the MPCNC.
Apr 24, 2015 2:57 PM - Mike Kelly: nope past few days i've been swamped
    Apr 24, 2015 2:57 PM - Mike Glass: What about your printer..lol
Apr 24, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: i watched hockey last night then went to bed
Apr 24, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: i've been picking up my garage a bit trying to make room for the new printer
Apr 24, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Glass: I had to re-wire my cnc, had it all bass akwards
Apr 24, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Glass: Ryan has been really helpfull so far
    Apr 24, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Kelly: awesome
Apr 24, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Kelly: he's probably excited someone else is making it
Apr 24, 2015 3:00 PM - Mike Glass: I There must be alot of builds though, they hits I have got on the remixes is pretty crazy
    Apr 24, 2015 3:00 PM - Mike Kelly: it's a sweet system
Apr 24, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Glass: He was going to CF but decided against it.
Apr 24, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Glass: and glad he didnt
Apr 24, 2015 3:02 PM - Mike Kelly: that does seem a little overkill
    Apr 24, 2015 3:02 PM - Mike Kelly: though i guess hindsight's 20/20
Apr 24, 2015 3:02 PM - Mike Glass: He started with robo, so maybe that was the driver
Apr 24, 2015 3:03 PM - Mike Glass: I just have the spindle hanger to figure out then it will be completed.
Apr 24, 2015 3:04 PM - Mike Glass: trying to figure out what would work the best way but also still portable.
Apr 24, 2015 3:05 PM - Mike Kelly: like a storage place for spindles?
Apr 24, 2015 3:06 PM - Mike Glass: Well maybe that but how do I want to hang it above the machine, was thinking a bent conduit or something.
    Apr 24, 2015 3:06 PM - Mike Kelly: got a 3/4" bender?
Apr 24, 2015 3:07 PM - Mike Glass: no, but I could freeze the pipe then bend it
Apr 24, 2015 3:07 PM - Mike Glass: guess I wouldn't have to use 3/4 for that though 1/2 inch should work fine. I dont have any more 3/4 left
Apr 24, 2015 3:08 PM - Mike Kelly: wait... what?
Apr 24, 2015 3:08 PM - Mike Kelly: i've never heard of this concept
Apr 24, 2015 3:08 PM - Mike Kelly: freezing prevents it from buckling?
Apr 24, 2015 3:08 PM - Mike Glass: sorry freeze water in the pipe..lol
Apr 24, 2015 3:09 PM - Mike Kelly: ohhh ok
Apr 24, 2015 3:09 PM - Mike Glass: I thought you would understand
Apr 24, 2015 3:09 PM - Mike Kelly: that's also a new one for me
Apr 24, 2015 3:11 PM - Mike Glass: nevery tried it on emt, I know it works with copper though
Apr 24, 2015 3:12 PM - Mike Glass: dang and if I was thinking I could of got a piece for free, they just replaced the conduit that somebody cut to and that would of worked...uggg
    Apr 24, 2015 3:13 PM - Mike Kelly: haha
Apr 24, 2015 3:14 PM - Mike Glass: and it was already bent..haha, oh well its cheap enough.
Apr 24, 2015 3:15 PM - Mike Glass: I used a grizzy pipe cutter i got from lowes on the 3/4 and got a deburing tool, worked like a champ, and took like 5 min to cut it all.
Apr 24, 2015 3:16 PM - Mike Kelly: i got a cheapo harbor freight one
    Apr 24, 2015 3:16 PM - Mike Kelly: wjat
    Apr 24, 2015 3:16 PM - Mike Kelly: err
    Apr 24, 2015 3:16 PM - Mike Kelly: what's the OD of 3/4"
    Apr 24, 2015 3:19 PM - Mike Kelly: .922
Apr 24, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Kelly: woo moving cancelled
Apr 24, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Kelly: now i can look good while not doing anything!
    Apr 24, 2015 3:33 PM - Mike Glass: 23.50
    Apr 24, 2015 3:39 PM - Mike Kelly: gotcha
Apr 24, 2015 3:44 PM - Mike Kelly: i wonder if it's possible to reorganize an assembly list in an assembly file
Apr 24, 2015 3:45 PM - Mike Kelly: hold ctrl
Apr 24, 2015 3:46 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm that might duplicate it
    Apr 24, 2015 3:57 PM - Mike Glass: CNTRL-ALT-DEL
    Apr 24, 2015 3:57 PM - Mike Glass: buhahahaha
Apr 24, 2015 3:58 PM - Mike Glass: shit time to go home.
    Apr 24, 2015 4:13 PM - jbigler1986: It's quiet here
Apr 24, 2015 4:42 PM - dbvanhorn: Hi, Home from work. Have a question
Apr 24, 2015 4:43 PM - dbvanhorn: PC has been very crashy the last couple of days, Where can I find docs on using the SD card to print? Googled around a bit and all I found was many statements that it can be done.
Apr 24, 2015 4:50 PM - dbvanhorn: Back from yet another crash. damn bsod logs are filling up my ssd
    Apr 24, 2015 4:51 PM - jbigler1986: Robo on their local news
    Apr 24, 2015 4:51 PM - jbigler1986: what slicer are you using?
    Apr 24, 2015 4:52 PM - dbvanhorn: lotsa robos!
Apr 24, 2015 4:52 PM - dbvanhorn: Running MC with the cura engine slicing
Apr 24, 2015 4:54 PM - dbvanhorn: Will install whatever works.. Also looking at an android app that might work, might be a time-sink
Apr 24, 2015 5:00 PM - dbvanhorn: An interesting printer was in the shot at 7:20
    Apr 24, 2015 5:02 PM - jbigler1986: thats the r2
    Apr 24, 2015 5:02 PM - jbigler1986: download standalone cura
Apr 24, 2015 5:03 PM - dbvanhorn: aaahh.. :) Not ready for primetime yet?
    Apr 24, 2015 5:03 PM - jbigler1986: nope
Apr 24, 2015 5:03 PM - dbvanhorn: Hopefully this will stay up long enough. It just got all crashy yesterday, after a windows update.
Apr 24, 2015 5:04 PM - insomniac_lemon: Not sure if anyone on saw my response on fixing my warping issue, but printing off my extruder holder was a smashing success
Apr 24, 2015 5:04 PM - dbvanhorn: I'm trying "not printing" to see if that is where the issue is.
Apr 24, 2015 5:04 PM - dbvanhorn: Cool! What fixed it?
Apr 24, 2015 5:04 PM - insomniac_lemon: and it fits alright, other than one of the sides broke a little because of the lip on the case.
    Apr 24, 2015 5:04 PM - jbigler1986: print from sd card
Apr 24, 2015 5:04 PM - dbvanhorn: Printing PETG at the moment with a little warp but otherwise great.
Apr 24, 2015 5:05 PM - jbigler1986: once you start the print you can unplug the computer
Apr 24, 2015 5:05 PM - insomniac_lemon: dbvanhorn, I lowered the offset a little, slowed layer 1 down, warmed bed to 40C, and put a sugar-citric acid slurry down
    Apr 24, 2015 5:05 PM - insomniac_lemon: there was no major warping
Apr 24, 2015 5:06 PM - insomniac_lemon: and the sugar slurry tastes good, like spray candy I've had before
    Apr 24, 2015 5:07 PM - jbigler1986: db http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/how-to-cura-setup.4169/
Apr 24, 2015 5:07 PM - insomniac_lemon: so now all I have to do is find out how I want to mount the extruders and I'll be set. I've also decided I didn't want to reuse the R1 extruder so I went ahead and ordered another ezstruder
Apr 24, 2015 5:08 PM - jbigler1986: follow that guide and let me know when you get it setup
Apr 24, 2015 5:08 PM - dbvanhorn: working on it now
Apr 24, 2015 5:10 PM - dbvanhorn: not able to talk to the printer.
Apr 24, 2015 5:11 PM - jbigler1986: unplug usb, close all printer programs

    Apr 24, 2015 5:12 PM - jbigler1986: turn off robo
    Apr 24, 2015 5:12 PM - jbigler1986: do it in this order
    Apr 24, 2015 5:12 PM - jbigler1986: turn on robo > plug in usb > start cura
Apr 24, 2015 5:14 PM - jbigler1986: anytime you want to switch from one printer program to another disconnect the printer within the software
Apr 24, 2015 5:18 PM - jbigler1986: Or else your com port will be busy and the printer won't connect to the new program
Apr 24, 2015 5:25 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok.. Found it, printer is heating up. I haven't had any more crashes while I wasn't printing, we will see if I crash again while printing.
Apr 24, 2015 5:26 PM - dbvanhorn: So has it copied the gcode to the printer already? It's heating the bed
    Apr 24, 2015 5:28 PM - jbigler1986: no.
Apr 24, 2015 5:28 PM - jbigler1986: we need to install another program
    Apr 24, 2015 5:29 PM - dbvanhorn: ok
    Apr 24, 2015 5:29 PM - jbigler1986: http://www.repetier.com/download/
Apr 24, 2015 5:31 PM - jbigler1986: after we set that one up we will slice the parts with cura and then save it to sd card. then we will use repetier-host to start the print from sd/control the printer
Apr 24, 2015 5:31 PM - jbigler1986: do you have a sd card reader on your computer?
    Apr 24, 2015 5:42 PM - Defyus: Hey
Apr 24, 2015 5:42 PM - dbvanhorn: Back from another crash.. I have one, not sure if it's enabled, I never use it.
Apr 24, 2015 5:44 PM - Defyus: ANyluck with single extruder bouden mod? or will i have to make my own?
Apr 24, 2015 5:44 PM - dbvanhorn: It may be my USB network thing
Apr 24, 2015 5:46 PM - dbvanhorn: ok repetier is installed.
Apr 24, 2015 5:48 PM - dbvanhorn: SD is up
Apr 24, 2015 5:50 PM - dbvanhorn: cura doesn't know my Z height setting, where does that live?
    Apr 24, 2015 5:52 PM - jbigler1986: Offset?
Apr 24, 2015 5:52 PM - dbvanhorn: I went into the bed leveling wiz in cura, up is down, and down is up...
Apr 24, 2015 5:57 PM - Mike Glass: dont use bed level wiz in anything, the robo has its own.
Apr 24, 2015 5:57 PM - dbvanhorn: ok.. How do I set my Z offset then? I've been using 0.75mm offset
Apr 24, 2015 5:58 PM - Mike Glass: Do a paper level then it will be close to perfect
    Apr 24, 2015 5:58 PM - dbvanhorn: It's trammed
    Apr 24, 2015 5:59 PM - jbigler1986: so most likely your offset is -.75
Apr 24, 2015 5:59 PM - jbigler1986: did you edit the start code like in the guide?
    Apr 24, 2015 6:00 PM - dbvanhorn: yes
Apr 24, 2015 6:04 PM - dbvanhorn: So I need to plug in my custom Gcode to repetier somewhere?
    Apr 24, 2015 6:04 PM - jbigler1986: no. in cura
Apr 24, 2015 6:06 PM - dbvanhorn: So far, whenever I'm not talking to the printer, I'm not crashing.
Apr 24, 2015 6:06 PM - dbvanhorn: low confidence, but apparent correlation
Apr 24, 2015 6:07 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok, plugged my gcode into cura, saved to SD.
Apr 24, 2015 6:08 PM - jbigler1986: in the start gcode tab in cura do you see the M565 Z-1
    Apr 24, 2015 6:08 PM - dbvanhorn: Z0.735 for me
    Apr 24, 2015 6:09 PM - jbigler1986: Z-0.73
    Apr 24, 2015 6:09 PM - dbvanhorn: To be clear: G29, G1 Z0.735, G92 Z0
Apr 24, 2015 6:11 PM - jbigler1986: should be Z-0.73 or Z-0.74 the 5 at the end really will nake make a differnce at all
    Apr 24, 2015 6:12 PM - jbigler1986: not make*
    Apr 24, 2015 6:12 PM - dbvanhorn: That's what works.. :)
    Apr 24, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: ok. but should be Z-0.735 not Z0.735 note the "-"
    Apr 24, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: see the minus sign after the Z
Apr 24, 2015 6:14 PM - dbvanhorn: As I read it, I'm finding "zero", then moving up by 0.73mm and making that the new zero
    Apr 24, 2015 6:14 PM - jbigler1986: ?
    Apr 24, 2015 6:14 PM - Mike Glass: ?
Apr 24, 2015 6:14 PM - dbvanhorn: If I take that number down much I start scraping the bed.
Apr 24, 2015 6:15 PM - jbigler1986: uhhhh. are you using some level wizard in cura or something
    Apr 24, 2015 6:15 PM - dbvanhorn: MC
    Apr 24, 2015 6:15 PM - Mike Glass: hahaha
    Apr 24, 2015 6:15 PM - dbvanhorn: G28 X0 Y0 Z0 ; home all axes G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift nozzle M109 S[temperature] ; set the extruder temp and wait G28 Z0 ; Home Z again in case there was filament on nozzle G29 ; probe the bed G1 Z0.73 ; 1.0 is too high G92 Z0 ; make this the new zero
Apr 24, 2015 6:16 PM - jbigler1986: we will be throwing that shit in the trash
Apr 24, 2015 6:16 PM - dbvanhorn: If I can stay running long enough to get through this.
Apr 24, 2015 6:16 PM - jbigler1986: DO NOT USE MC FOR ANYTHING!!!
Apr 24, 2015 6:16 PM - Mike Glass: use M565 robo is designed that way to work with autolevel
Apr 24, 2015 6:17 PM - dbvanhorn: I've been cranking print after print wonderfully under MC till this crashing thing.
Apr 24, 2015 6:17 PM - Mike Glass: haha JB you used to be the same way though..
    Apr 24, 2015 6:17 PM - jbigler1986: i printed like 3 things with it
    Apr 24, 2015 6:18 PM - jbigler1986: then i said f that crap
Apr 24, 2015 6:18 PM - Mike Glass: I printed a good 50 hours with mine, but couldnt do any real adjusting.
Apr 24, 2015 6:18 PM - jbigler1986: trust us. once you get cura up and running you will never look back
    Apr 24, 2015 6:18 PM - dbvanhorn: Trying to..
Apr 24, 2015 6:19 PM - Mike Glass: Cura is awesome, I use it for most quick prints, but use repetier for more intricate
    Apr 24, 2015 6:19 PM - dbvanhorn: Here's whats in start.gcode now:
Apr 24, 2015 6:19 PM - dbvanhorn: G21 ;metric values G90 ;absolute positioning M82 ;set extruder to absolute mode M107 ;start with the fan off G28 ;home all axis M565 Z-0.435 ;Define a 1.0mm offset, this may need adjusting G29 ;run autolevel routine G1 Z15.0 F{travel_speed} ;move the platform down 15mm G92 E0 ;zero the extruded length G1 F200 E3 ;extrude 3mm of feed stock G92 E0 ;zero the extrude
    Apr 24, 2015 6:19 PM - jbigler1986: stop using MC
Apr 24, 2015 6:19 PM - jbigler1986: is that the start gcode in MC or Cura?
    Apr 24, 2015 6:20 PM - jbigler1986: that's in cura
    Apr 24, 2015 6:20 PM - dbvanhorn: Cura. Just fixed tne Z-0.435 to z-0.73
    Apr 24, 2015 6:20 PM - jbigler1986: k
    Apr 24, 2015 6:20 PM - jbigler1986: comment out the G1 F200 E3 line
    Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - dbvanhorn: ok
    Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - jbigler1986: put ; in front of it
    Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - dbvanhorn: did that
    Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - jbigler1986: k
Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - jbigler1986: all other settings you have set in cura?
    Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - dbvanhorn: yes, I hope.
Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - dbvanhorn: print temp, etc pretty familiar looking
Apr 24, 2015 6:21 PM - jbigler1986: as long as you followed the guide you should have
    Apr 24, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: k.
Apr 24, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: start a small test print in cura. don't worry about sd card stuff yet
Apr 24, 2015 6:22 PM - dbvanhorn: hopefully not crashing.. here goes.
    Apr 24, 2015 6:24 PM - dbvanhorn: pronterface says Operational, Temperature: 22 Bed: 21
Apr 24, 2015 6:24 PM - dbvanhorn: Print button does nothing.
    Apr 24, 2015 6:26 PM - jbigler1986: gotta click connect first
Apr 24, 2015 6:27 PM - jbigler1986: after you added the part what button did you select?
Apr 24, 2015 6:31 PM - dbvanhorn: Print button does nothing except crash the computer
Apr 24, 2015 6:32 PM - jbigler1986: after you loaded the part did you click the print from usb button inbetween the folder and the youmagine icon?
Apr 24, 2015 6:32 PM - dbvanhorn: Now cura has lost all settings.
Apr 24, 2015 6:33 PM - dbvanhorn: I connected. Need to reload all settings.. :(
    Apr 24, 2015 6:33 PM - jbigler1986: it should have saved them
    Apr 24, 2015 6:34 PM - dbvanhorn: I agree
Apr 24, 2015 6:41 PM - dbvanhorn: Lost the pronterface as well
Apr 24, 2015 6:41 PM - dbvanhorn: bed is heating
    Apr 24, 2015 6:43 PM - dbvanhorn: extruder heating
    Apr 24, 2015 6:46 PM - dbvanhorn: probing bed
Apr 24, 2015 6:47 PM - dbvanhorn: returned to zero, extruder cooling
    Apr 24, 2015 6:48 PM - jbigler1986: ?
Apr 24, 2015 6:49 PM - dbvanhorn: Since the crash, when I load an STL I see nothing in cura
Apr 24, 2015 6:51 PM - dbvanhorn: Trying again, shut all down and restart

Apr 24, 2015 6:53 PM - dbvanhorn: ok, warming up again
Apr 24, 2015 6:55 PM - Bill Monroe: dang, I'm getting too old for this...
Apr 24, 2015 6:57 PM - dbvanhorn: So far it's holding true, if I'm not printing Im not crashing. Cura print crashed it, and so did MC
    Apr 24, 2015 6:58 PM - jbigler1986: getting to old? :p
Apr 24, 2015 6:58 PM - dbvanhorn: Cura is about to start printing (or something...)
Apr 24, 2015 6:59 PM - dbvanhorn: My father would agree, any day above ground is a good one.
Apr 24, 2015 7:00 PM - dbvanhorn: probed the bed, went back to zero, kissed the glass, now cooling off.
Apr 24, 2015 7:01 PM - dbvanhorn: Progress bar has just a hint of green. Says "Printing" Temp still dropping, 158 and down Bed stable at 70
    Apr 24, 2015 7:01 PM - dbvanhorn: WTF over?
Apr 24, 2015 7:02 PM - jbigler1986: what temp do you have it set at? not the temp in pronterface
    Apr 24, 2015 7:04 PM - dbvanhorn: I had 220 / 70 set
    Apr 24, 2015 7:04 PM - dbvanhorn: I had 220 / 70 set
Apr 24, 2015 7:05 PM - jbigler1986: leave it at that and don't enter any temps in proterface. leave those boxes alone
Apr 24, 2015 7:05 PM - dbvanhorn: I should run 80 for this PETG. It prints almost perfectly there
Apr 24, 2015 7:06 PM - dbvanhorn: It seems to go through the whole cycle, then decide there's nothing to print and shut down.
Apr 24, 2015 7:06 PM - dbvanhorn: But the progress bar indicated a long way to go
Apr 24, 2015 7:07 PM - jbigler1986: idk why you are having issues with the temp
Apr 24, 2015 7:08 PM - dbvanhorn: Trying again, warming up
Apr 24, 2015 7:08 PM - dbvanhorn: It's not over heating, ex is now at 191 going to 220
    Apr 24, 2015 7:09 PM - dbvanhorn: 210
    Apr 24, 2015 7:09 PM - jbigler1986: k
    Apr 24, 2015 7:09 PM - dbvanhorn: Probing
    Apr 24, 2015 7:10 PM - dbvanhorn: Probing.. Going back to 0
Apr 24, 2015 7:11 PM - dbvanhorn: kissed bed, now cooling again.
Apr 24, 2015 7:11 PM - jbigler1986: delete the lines that it says in the guide and copy and paste the lines he says to
    Apr 24, 2015 7:13 PM - jbigler1986: your offset is .735?
    Apr 24, 2015 7:14 PM - dbvanhorn: 0.73 now
    Apr 24, 2015 7:15 PM - jbigler1986: i just sent you a PM
Apr 24, 2015 7:20 PM - dbvanhorn: back from crash
    Apr 24, 2015 7:20 PM - jbigler1986: do what i sent in the pm
    Apr 24, 2015 7:20 PM - dbvanhorn: got it
Apr 24, 2015 7:21 PM - dbvanhorn: back to the first time run wizard in cura again..
    Apr 24, 2015 7:22 PM - jbigler1986: run wizard?
Apr 24, 2015 7:23 PM - dbvanhorn: skipped it, loaded profile I saved before crash
Apr 24, 2015 7:23 PM - jbigler1986: save the profile after you edit everything so u dont have to keep doing that
    Apr 24, 2015 7:23 PM - jbigler1986: good
Apr 24, 2015 7:28 PM - dbvanhorn: The squares on the buildplate in cura are how big?
    Apr 24, 2015 7:29 PM - jbigler1986: not sure
    Apr 24, 2015 7:32 PM - dbvanhorn: probing
Apr 24, 2015 7:33 PM - dbvanhorn: actually printing this time.
Apr 24, 2015 7:34 PM - dbvanhorn: I need to fix the bed size, I apparently have something really small set. Must have lost the settings a couple of crashes ago.
Apr 24, 2015 7:35 PM - dbvanhorn: ok.. I also lost pronterface. Been a long time, how is that installed?
    Apr 24, 2015 7:35 PM - jbigler1986: file > preferances
    Apr 24, 2015 7:36 PM - jbigler1986: printing window type
    Apr 24, 2015 7:36 PM - dbvanhorn: got it
    Apr 24, 2015 7:37 PM - jbigler1986: File > machine settings > width 228 > depth 254 > height 228
Apr 24, 2015 7:39 PM - dbvanhorn: thx. Was looking that up.
Apr 24, 2015 7:40 PM - dbvanhorn: Pronterface is up and running.
Apr 24, 2015 7:41 PM - dbvanhorn: While I was rebooting, I stripped off every USB device except for keyboard, mouse, network and robo.
Apr 24, 2015 7:41 PM - dbvanhorn: Whatever this "update" is, it's totally borked me.
Apr 24, 2015 7:42 PM - dbvanhorn: thanks for sticking with me.
Apr 24, 2015 7:43 PM - jbigler1986: yw. i will help with sd tomorrow or maybe someone else can help tonight
    Apr 24, 2015 7:43 PM - jbigler1986: see ya

Apr 25, 2015 4:20 AM - Printed Solid: what are people using for a preferred replacement for y-axis bearings? mine are feeling rough
    Apr 25, 2015 4:27 AM - jbigler1986: Y axis bearings?
    Apr 25, 2015 4:27 AM - jbigler1986: Didn't know there were bearings for the y. Guess I haven't really looked
Apr 25, 2015 4:31 AM - jbigler1986: I bought some bearings for the x axis. Tested 4 of them and they sounded a little rough so I didn't use them. Haven't tested the other 6 I have. My point is that ordering bearings seems to be hit or miss. You could print some. People have had success with printed ones.
Apr 25, 2015 4:32 AM - Printed Solid: linear bearings.
Apr 25, 2015 4:33 AM - Printed Solid: I thought people were replacing them as an upgrade. not so much?
Apr 25, 2015 4:33 AM - Printed Solid: Gathering your parts now JB
    Apr 25, 2015 4:35 AM - jbigler1986: Awesome. Thanks.
    Apr 25, 2015 4:35 AM - jbigler1986: Bearings for the y axis?
Apr 25, 2015 4:35 AM - jbigler1986: Pretty sure the only bearings are on the x carriage
Apr 25, 2015 4:36 AM - jbigler1986: Let me look under the bed in a minute
Apr 25, 2015 4:40 AM - Printed Solid: there are bearings inside that block. how do you think it is sliding back and forth without sticking :)
Apr 25, 2015 4:40 AM - Printed Solid: linear bearings
Apr 25, 2015 4:41 AM - Printed Solid: hey, which screws do you need? what are they for? I just realized mine are all packed with a few different size screws
Apr 25, 2015 4:48 AM - jbigler1986: The m3 x 3 ones that hold the thermistor on the heat block
    Apr 25, 2015 4:48 AM - Printed Solid: you need 2?
    Apr 25, 2015 4:48 AM - jbigler1986: If you have them
Apr 25, 2015 4:49 AM - Printed Solid: I'll check around. They come in a 'fixings kit' with a bunch of screws, ferrules, etc. only 1 of those small screws is in the kit. So, I'll look around and see what I have.
Apr 25, 2015 4:50 AM - jbigler1986: Forgot about the bearings on the z axis too. Woops. I'm having a brain fart this morning
Apr 25, 2015 4:50 AM - Printed Solid: I ran a great 9 hour print last night except y shifted a few times.
Apr 25, 2015 4:51 AM - Printed Solid: I've been pretty pleased with my robo lately.
Apr 25, 2015 4:51 AM - jbigler1986: How much for the screw kit? Never hurts to have more parts
Apr 25, 2015 4:52 AM - Printed Solid: not really a cost issue. I just don't know if I have it. I'll toss a bunch of stuff in your bag. you doing these pics for me has some value. I don't feel like I should be charging you for the parts.
Apr 25, 2015 4:53 AM - jbigler1986: I will take several pics of the items and you can decide which ones to use
Apr 25, 2015 4:56 AM - Printed Solid: cool. I'm going to go gather and label them up now.
Apr 25, 2015 4:57 AM - jbigler1986: And yeah I see where the bearings are. The LM8UU are the ones. They some are good some aren't. Don't know until you get them unfortunately.
Apr 25, 2015 4:58 AM - Printed Solid: Mine have been running for a few hundred hours. Looking to get something better now.
Apr 25, 2015 4:59 AM - jbigler1986: Maybe a good supplier will be better. Amazon probably isn't the best for bearings
Apr 25, 2015 5:00 AM - Printed Solid: that's what I'm thinking. I will ask the design and automation engineers at work. We probably have something in our spare parts warehouse.
Apr 25, 2015 5:01 AM - Printed Solid: one of the perks of my job. We have a huge warehouse of spare parts from out of service machines. As an associate, I can get them for the cost of the scrap metal.
Apr 25, 2015 5:02 AM - Printed Solid: I just need to convince someone to buy and then decomission an SLS machine
    Apr 25, 2015 5:02 AM - Printed Solid: :)
    Apr 25, 2015 5:05 AM - jbigler1986: Lol. I haven't seen a sls in action yet
Apr 25, 2015 5:09 AM - Printed Solid: pretty sure they're well enclosed so there is not much to see. powder needs to be kept near the sintering temperature.
Apr 25, 2015 5:20 AM - Mike Kelly: On the way to Boston!
Apr 25, 2015 5:21 AM - Printed Solid: nice. too bad it's not philly.
Apr 25, 2015 5:23 AM - Mike Kelly: Yeah but Boston is where my wife's corporate headquarters is
Apr 25, 2015 5:23 AM - Printed Solid: also too bad it's not May 16th weekend. I'll be there then for a talk a a 3D Hubs workshop.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:23 AM - Printed Solid: have a safe trip!
Apr 25, 2015 5:25 AM - Mike Kelly: Oh nice. Thanks man
    Apr 25, 2015 5:25 AM - Mike Kelly: I'm not a big fan of 8am flight times...
Apr 25, 2015 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: Matt, you still here?
    Apr 25, 2015 6:08 AM - jbigler1986: Go bad to bed Bill
    Apr 25, 2015 6:08 AM - jbigler1986: Fail. Back to bed
Apr 25, 2015 6:08 AM - Bill Monroe: ahahah i've been up for hours
    Apr 25, 2015 6:08 AM - Bill Monroe: it's in my DNA
    Apr 25, 2015 6:18 AM - Printed Solid: I'm here now.
Apr 25, 2015 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: hi MAtt
Apr 25, 2015 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: do you have an ultrasonic cleaner?
Apr 25, 2015 6:23 AM - Printed Solid: I have access to one at work, but don't have my own.
Apr 25, 2015 6:24 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. with one of those, you can make the cheapo amazon lm8uu bearings work fantastic
Apr 25, 2015 6:25 AM - Bill Monroe: they're filthy.. that's why they often work like crap
Apr 25, 2015 6:26 AM - Printed Solid: ah. Ok. So just pull it and clean it? Do you lube it after?
Apr 25, 2015 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: i run them for awhile in paint thinner.. to clean them.. denatured alcohol.. to clean out the thinner.. then in light oil to lubricate them. never, ever blow air in them.
    Apr 25, 2015 6:27 AM - Printed Solid: k
Apr 25, 2015 6:27 AM - Bill Monroe: Harbor Freight sells cleaners.. two diff ones.. the $80 one is great
Apr 25, 2015 6:28 AM - Bill Monroe: I have a german make 7 gallon cleaner with heat... fantasitc but way too big for the 8uu.. i use the harbor freight one for those
Apr 25, 2015 6:29 AM - Bill Monroe: my wife uses it for jewlery too.. she loves it
Apr 25, 2015 6:29 AM - Printed Solid: I might just pick some up anyways.
    Apr 25, 2015 6:30 AM - Bill Monroe: i'm using 10s on the machine I'm building
Apr 25, 2015 6:30 AM - Printed Solid: my machine is a demo machine, so I want it to be as close to stock as possible. I like the idea of 10s though.
Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: 8s are find for the robo.. little demand on them
Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Printed Solid: that's why I haven't put E3D on it. keeping fingers crossed that the hex doesn't die.
Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: mine is more like the makerbot format.. X&Y at fixed level
Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Printed Solid: I'm not going to stock them anymore.
Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Printed Solid: good call.
    Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: no?
Apr 25, 2015 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: i thought the Hex was fine, never had an issue with it
Apr 25, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: but all I ever used it for was PLA
Apr 25, 2015 6:32 AM - Printed Solid: Build quality is just hit and miss. A lot of people have had them fall apart mid print. I'd rather just direct people to the E3D.
    Apr 25, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: ah.
Apr 25, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: I think the Chimera is a huge fail
Apr 25, 2015 6:33 AM - Printed Solid: I don't know. I haven't heard much on it other than from you. Dual in general is just a b**.
Apr 25, 2015 6:33 AM - Printed Solid: Of the two, cyclops was way more interesting to me, but I know I will never have time to experiment with it.
Apr 25, 2015 6:34 AM - Bill Monroe: well, I believe the issues is with the generally poor cooling and not having a fine-adjust for relative height
Apr 25, 2015 6:35 AM - Printed Solid: yeah. that is a fundamental flaw with dual input dual output. You need to get that height perfect. Believe it or not, that design is better than anything else I've seen.
Apr 25, 2015 6:35 AM - Bill Monroe: even if cyclops issues are solved, you're still stuck with having to use same materials
Apr 25, 2015 6:35 AM - Printed Solid: right. same with the mosaic
    Apr 25, 2015 6:35 AM - Printed Solid: which is a drag.
Apr 25, 2015 6:35 AM - Bill Monroe: I'm wkring on a couple of dual solutions.. but using seperate heads
Apr 25, 2015 6:36 AM - Printed Solid: If you come up with multimaterial extrusion that really works AND is relatively inexpensive, it will be a hit.
Apr 25, 2015 6:36 AM - Bill Monroe: they wont retro to the robo though, they need more X travel
Apr 25, 2015 6:36 AM - Bill Monroe: that's the goal buddy.. I need a decent support system
Apr 25, 2015 6:37 AM - Printed Solid: industry is super price sensitive.
Apr 25, 2015 6:37 AM - Printed Solid: If you come up with something that works, I have a huge print. 420mm X 420mm X about 200mm that needs a lot of dissolvable support.
Apr 25, 2015 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. but that's OK 99% of the users are nerds making toys so.. robo be fine :)
Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Printed Solid: I think there are a lot more people out there with more serious use than you think.
Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: argh.. metric.. speak to me in english :)
Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Printed Solid: that is probably true of most of the users on forums.
    Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, they're using Stratasys Machines :)
    Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Printed Solid: about 17"
    Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Printed Solid: no.
Apr 25, 2015 6:38 AM - Printed Solid: I know a lot of machine shops using desktop machines as enhcancements.
Apr 25, 2015 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: oh.. ok.
Apr 25, 2015 6:39 AM - Printed Solid: you know. for the price of a few spools of pro material, you can buy a bunch of desktop machines.
Apr 25, 2015 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: I have two stratasys machines...
Apr 25, 2015 6:39 AM - Printed Solid: right, and here you are talking about the robo!
Apr 25, 2015 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: hey! I didnt say robos were bad.. just toys :)
    Apr 25, 2015 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: i like toys
Apr 25, 2015 6:40 AM - Printed Solid: Consultants I know typically advocate a package with several desktop printer for engineering use and then a pro machine for where needed.

    Apr 25, 2015 6:40 AM - Bill Monroe: i agree but that
Apr 25, 2015 6:40 AM - Printed Solid: Although typically the desktop machines are more along the lines of taz or ultimaker.
Apr 25, 2015 6:40 AM - Bill Monroe: that's what it takes right now...
Apr 25, 2015 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: I saw one that was one the right track.. forgot what it's call though.. hmmm
Apr 25, 2015 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: bukabot dual or something like that
    Apr 25, 2015 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: they're almost there
Apr 25, 2015 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: Honestly, I thik SLA will pass FDM in popularity before the ideal consumer FDM is available
Apr 25, 2015 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe: maybe you should be looking at stocking polymers and lasers? :)
Apr 25, 2015 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: how's printing Bronzfill with a tiny nozsle?
    Apr 25, 2015 6:53 AM - Mike Glass: Morning
Apr 25, 2015 6:54 AM - Mike Glass: Hey Printed, I see your friend is trying some beta wax filament?
    Apr 25, 2015 6:54 AM - Bill Monroe: MG
    Apr 25, 2015 6:54 AM - Mike Glass: BM
Apr 25, 2015 6:56 AM - Bill Monroe: wax might be useful
Apr 25, 2015 6:57 AM - Mike Glass: he does lost pla casting, but wit wax, way better results
    Apr 25, 2015 6:57 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, that's what I was thinking
Apr 25, 2015 6:57 AM - Mike Glass: easier to clean up wax then plastic
Apr 25, 2015 6:57 AM - Bill Monroe: yup.. I do a bit of ceramic shell work for artists
    Apr 25, 2015 7:00 AM - Bill Monroe:
Apr 25, 2015 7:00 AM - Mike Glass: I cant wait to get my foundry finished, just have to build the nozzle.
Apr 25, 2015 7:01 AM - Bill Monroe: i grew up in a foundry.. my grandfathers business
Apr 25, 2015 7:02 AM - Bill Monroe: he had me running a old fockford lathe when I was 11, making parts for horse tack
    Apr 25, 2015 7:02 AM - Bill Monroe: rockford
Apr 25, 2015 7:03 AM - Mike Glass: what is your crucible made from?
Apr 25, 2015 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: silica glass
Apr 25, 2015 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: before the internet, I had to drive to LA to a foundy supply to get one
Apr 25, 2015 7:06 AM - Mike Glass: I guess you can make them, not sure I want to do that.
Apr 25, 2015 7:07 AM - Bill Monroe: i would never try to cheap out on the crucible
Apr 25, 2015 7:07 AM - Bill Monroe: i've seen that happens when they fail
Apr 25, 2015 7:07 AM - Bill Monroe: especially an #80 filled with bronze
Apr 25, 2015 7:08 AM - Bill Monroe: i still have the scars
Apr 25, 2015 7:08 AM - Printed Solid: yeah. I have some of that too. Where are you seeing it? Alloy Avenue forum?
Apr 25, 2015 7:09 AM - Printed Solid: BM, I've done bronzefill down to .35 nozzles.
Apr 25, 2015 7:09 AM - Mike Glass: You tube
Apr 25, 2015 7:09 AM - Bill Monroe: no, in my grandfather
Apr 25, 2015 7:10 AM - Bill Monroe: sgrandfather's foundry while pouring monument plaques
Apr 25, 2015 7:10 AM - Printed Solid: ah, OK. he's done some awesome stuff with PLA as well. Have you seen the trex?
    Apr 25, 2015 7:10 AM - Printed Solid: I mean lost PLA
    Apr 25, 2015 7:10 AM - Bill Monroe: no.
Apr 25, 2015 7:10 AM - Mike Glass: Yep pretty cool
    Apr 25, 2015 7:10 AM - Printed Solid: http://www.thingiverse.com/make:93659
Apr 25, 2015 7:11 AM - Bill Monroe: I was wondering how bronzefill would do making closinee
Apr 25, 2015 7:11 AM - Printed Solid: Not sure if he discusses it in his videos, but PLA works well as long as you don't get to have sections that are too densely filled. It expands and cracks the investment.
Apr 25, 2015 7:12 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, I have seen that.. I had intention of doing lost PLA
Apr 25, 2015 7:12 AM - Printed Solid: I don't know. It is relatively brittle. Polishing is a process.
Apr 25, 2015 7:12 AM - Printed Solid: you should try it Bill.
Apr 25, 2015 7:12 AM - Bill Monroe: naw.. I do that old school..
Apr 25, 2015 7:13 AM - Bill Monroe: I already have the equipment and skills..
Apr 25, 2015 7:13 AM - Bill Monroe: i need a couple of cloisinee badges for my plane (I know I'm spelling that wrong)
Apr 25, 2015 7:13 AM - Printed Solid: I meant try lost PLA.
Apr 25, 2015 7:13 AM - Bill Monroe: but dont want to make a micro CNC rounter
Apr 25, 2015 7:13 AM - Mike Glass: I want to do a big one of T-rex, I have on printed for the process.
    Apr 25, 2015 7:13 AM - Bill Monroe: router
Apr 25, 2015 7:14 AM - Mike Glass: I thought you had one Bill
Apr 25, 2015 7:14 AM - Bill Monroe: i put a PLA pring in my kiln to see how well it's dissolve.. not nearly as good as the purpose-made wax
Apr 25, 2015 7:14 AM - Bill Monroe: not one small enough for the badges
Apr 25, 2015 7:15 AM - Mike Glass: Did you guys see this in the forums.
Apr 25, 2015 7:15 AM - Bill Monroe: if bronzefill will print with a .25 or even a .2, that might work
Apr 25, 2015 7:16 AM - Printed Solid: I don't think it will, but you can order a sample.
Apr 25, 2015 7:16 AM - Printed Solid: Cool MG
    Apr 25, 2015 7:16 AM - Bill Monroe: I did!
    Apr 25, 2015 7:16 AM - Mike Glass: I was seeing if I could blow up a pen..lol
Apr 25, 2015 7:16 AM - Bill Monroe: arrived yesterday
Apr 25, 2015 7:18 AM - Printed Solid: lol. yes. of course. I remember.
    Apr 25, 2015 7:18 AM - Printed Solid: I need a few additional processors
Apr 25, 2015 7:19 AM - Mike Glass: So can you get your hands on the wax stuff?
Apr 25, 2015 7:19 AM - Bill Monroe: you need a west-coast distributor who goes to the post office daily :)
Apr 25, 2015 7:19 AM - Mike Glass: Bill thats not nice to make 2.0 do all the work. :)
Apr 25, 2015 7:19 AM - Printed Solid: MG, I can only get it at retail, same as you.
Apr 25, 2015 7:20 AM - Bill Monroe: she already does it! has a soap buisness that's rocking
Apr 25, 2015 7:20 AM - Mike Glass: Oh didnt know it was availiable
Apr 25, 2015 7:20 AM - Printed Solid: yeah. Things just change so ridiculously fast. Maybe someday though.
Apr 25, 2015 7:20 AM - Printed Solid: The wax filament looked awful. are you on E3D MG?
Apr 25, 2015 7:21 AM - Printed Solid: I ask because I don't think it will go through a hex. too much diameter variation.
Apr 25, 2015 7:21 AM - Printed Solid: probably varies by as much as 0.5mm.
    Apr 25, 2015 7:21 AM - Bill Monroe: yikes
Apr 25, 2015 7:21 AM - Mike Glass: naw still hex
    Apr 25, 2015 7:21 AM - Printed Solid: no typo there. .5, not .05
Apr 25, 2015 7:22 AM - Printed Solid: My friend who used it has a rostock max with e3d.
    Apr 25, 2015 7:22 AM - Bill Monroe: oh phew :)
Apr 25, 2015 7:22 AM - Mike Glass: Yea I saw his machine running it. looked nice
Apr 25, 2015 7:22 AM - Printed Solid: no. I mean it really does vary by 0.5mm as in some sections are 1.5, some close to 2.
Apr 25, 2015 7:22 AM - Printed Solid: if it was hard plastic, I would have thrown it right in the trash.
Apr 25, 2015 7:23 AM - Printed Solid: he says it runs well though.
Apr 25, 2015 7:24 AM - Mike Glass: heard of Moldlay?
Apr 25, 2015 7:25 AM - Printed Solid: yeah. it came out within a few days of what dave has.
Apr 25, 2015 7:29 AM - Bill Monroe: I wonder how placing heat-stake inserts would work in Bronzefill?
Apr 25, 2015 7:36 AM - Printed Solid: designing them in or placing them in after the print? Bronzefill pretty much acts like regular PLA.
Apr 25, 2015 7:36 AM - Bill Monroe: after print..
Apr 25, 2015 7:37 AM - Bill Monroe: I'm gunna try just tapping the print.. the bronze might increase the strength maybe?
    Apr 25, 2015 7:38 AM - Printed Solid: nope
Apr 25, 2015 7:38 AM - Printed Solid: it also does not make it conductive. It's really for an artistic effect or for weight.
Apr 25, 2015 7:43 AM - Printed Solid: If I stocked the new f-electric conductive filament, would people be interested?
    Apr 25, 2015 7:43 AM - Bill Monroe: i think you'd need to find 3D <-> lectronics crossover hobbiests
Apr 25, 2015 7:44 AM - Bill Monroe: 3d printing circuit boards is still new and pretty crude
Apr 25, 2015 7:44 AM - Printed Solid: ya. That's what I'm wondering. it might work, but is there an audience.
Apr 25, 2015 7:44 AM - Printed Solid: I might still just get a little bit.
Apr 25, 2015 7:44 AM - Bill Monroe: I think the copper pen tech will eclipse it
Apr 25, 2015 7:45 AM - Bill Monroe: heck ya.. one test is worth a thousand expert opinions
Apr 25, 2015 7:45 AM - Printed Solid: And there are always so many expert opinions available ;P

    Apr 25, 2015 7:45 AM - Printed Solid: I do think you're right though.
Apr 25, 2015 7:45 AM - Bill Monroe: MGs plotter might make decent largeish circuit boards
    Apr 25, 2015 7:46 AM - Printed Solid: right.
Apr 25, 2015 7:53 AM - Mike Glass: cant you use a special pen to make circut boards
Apr 25, 2015 7:54 AM - Mike Glass: or is it just a acid
Apr 25, 2015 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, put it in your robo-plotter :)
Apr 25, 2015 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: they have those too.. many ways now to make a curcuit board
Apr 25, 2015 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: my son just walks the files into a place and comes back later in the day
    Apr 25, 2015 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: but, he's in Korea :)
    Apr 25, 2015 7:55 AM - Mike Glass: probably like a 7-11 eh
Apr 25, 2015 7:56 AM - Bill Monroe: you have to see the place to believe it
Apr 25, 2015 7:56 AM - Bill Monroe: makes Frys look tiny
Apr 25, 2015 7:57 AM - Bill Monroe: every freekin electronic item you need with plenty of stock and korean nerds standing by to help
Apr 25, 2015 7:57 AM - Bill Monroe: 3 blocks away from the base's front gate
Apr 25, 2015 8:26 AM - Bill Monroe: bronzefill printing now.. so far so good
Apr 25, 2015 8:27 AM - Mike Glass: how does one pause a print on a particular layer in s3d
    Apr 25, 2015 8:34 AM - jbigler1986: This bondic is awesome
Apr 25, 2015 8:35 AM - jbigler1986: Other or advanced tab I believe. Or you have to add it into the gcode. M0 pauses I believe
    Apr 25, 2015 8:51 AM - donhuevo: morning gents
    Apr 25, 2015 8:52 AM - Bill Monroe: DH
Apr 25, 2015 8:52 AM - donhuevo: happy friggin' saturday
    Apr 25, 2015 8:53 AM - donhuevo: hola Bill
    Apr 25, 2015 8:53 AM - jbigler1986: bondic. screw super glue
Apr 25, 2015 8:54 AM - donhuevo: I saw that on that scyfy maker show
Apr 25, 2015 8:54 AM - Bill Monroe: that would be hard to explain to the doctor
    Apr 25, 2015 8:55 AM - jbigler1986: it's pretty awesome. I was a little skeptical. But it's amazing
Apr 25, 2015 8:56 AM - jbigler1986: Bill I could have made the puzzle cut tolerance even smaller. It works though
Apr 25, 2015 8:59 AM - donhuevo: any of you crazy bastards golf?
    Apr 25, 2015 9:00 AM - jbigler1986: I do. Not good but I enjoy it
Apr 25, 2015 9:01 AM - donhuevo: I suck. Since the back surgery, I've been worried about trying full swings. Playing with the putter though and didn't find anything resembling a putting cup on thingiverse so I drew one
    Apr 25, 2015 9:02 AM - donhuevo: http://i.imgur.com/eeHwFph.jpg
Apr 25, 2015 9:02 AM - donhuevo: printing it now
Apr 25, 2015 9:03 AM - jbigler1986: Good idea. Yeah my problem is over swinging. It's so hard not to go full force. But when I swing smooth I'm not to bad. That's rare though
Apr 25, 2015 9:04 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, .5 sounded too big to me
Apr 25, 2015 9:04 AM - donhuevo: slow down your backswing and think relaxing thoughts
Apr 25, 2015 9:04 AM - Bill Monroe: I dont have any issues playing golf at all
    Apr 25, 2015 9:06 AM - jbigler1986: Bill I went with .3 should have done 2 or 1
Apr 25, 2015 9:06 AM - Bill Monroe: I use .1 on my machines, but it's dependent on your particular setup
Apr 25, 2015 9:07 AM - Bill Monroe: will polycabonate, .1 makes it so you aeemble the parts warm and when they cool, it's locked together.. no glue needed at all
    Apr 25, 2015 9:09 AM - jbigler1986: Nice
Apr 25, 2015 9:10 AM - Bill Monroe: sequential printing four bronzefill parts now
    Apr 25, 2015 9:11 AM - jbigler1986: Holy hell th

Apr 25, 2015 9:14 AM - donhuevo: the better question would be how do you have any time for work
Apr 25, 2015 9:14 AM - Bill Monroe: easy! I dont throw my life away playing golf :)
Apr 25, 2015 9:14 AM - Bill Monroe: but, I DO own teo golf carts....

Apr 25, 2015 9:22 AM - Bill Monroe: yaso far this bronzefill is working pretty damn nice
Apr 25, 2015 9:22 AM - Bill Monroe: I dont see any stringing at all
    Apr 25, 2015 9:23 AM - donhuevo: cool!
Apr 25, 2015 9:28 AM - Bill Monroe: I think the sequential printing helps
Apr 25, 2015 9:28 AM - Bill Monroe: the color sure makes it nice to evaluate how well it's printing
Apr 25, 2015 9:30 AM - Bill Monroe: it probably works better if I dont stare at it
Apr 25, 2015 9:31 AM - Bill Monroe: i gotta go meet my buddies for breakfast... bbl

Apr 25, 2015 9:41 AM - jbigler1986: Obviously it doesn't affect your prints. Just an observation
Apr 25, 2015 9:41 AM - donhuevo: I tried some shrouds once and it went badly.

Apr 25, 2015 10:54 AM - JeffTheMess: lol i bet who ever wrote that was paid by someone who make expensive filament
Apr 25, 2015 10:54 AM - Mike Glass: I lost all my effin settings last night in S3d
Apr 25, 2015 10:55 AM - jbigler1986: I have not had that happen. Just save your settings so you can load them if it happens
Apr 25, 2015 10:56 AM - jbigler1986: I think it saves them as a .Factory fike or fff
Apr 25, 2015 10:58 AM - JeffTheMess: the autolevel is in the gcode right?
    Apr 25, 2015 11:00 AM - Bill Monroe: back

Apr 25, 2015 11:07 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. nice seeing my school buddies again
Apr 25, 2015 11:07 AM - JeffTheMess: has anyone experienced the extruder not extruding while print via s3d
Apr 25, 2015 11:07 AM - Bill Monroe: only when here's no filament in it
Apr 25, 2015 11:09 AM - JeffTheMess: in the communication box it say cold extrusion prevented but the extruder is at the right temp
Apr 25, 2015 11:09 AM - Mike Glass: I do but that when im printing with a pen
    Apr 25, 2015 11:10 AM - Bill Monroe: http://vaughnlive.tv/socalplanedoc
Apr 25, 2015 11:12 AM - JeffTheMess: what you printing Bill?

Apr 25, 2015 11:13 AM - JeffTheMess: looks good mike
Apr 25, 2015 11:14 AM - JeffTheMess: anyone got any ideas on this cold extrusion prevented? or no
Apr 25, 2015 11:15 AM - Bill Monroe: first check settings.. examine gcode... is the extruder moving?
Apr 25, 2015 11:16 AM - JeffTheMess: the extruder is not extruding, the printer is following the proper gcode
    Apr 25, 2015 11:16 AM - JeffTheMess: i think s3d thinks its not hot
Apr 25, 2015 11:16 AM - Bill Monroe: but is the extruder turning?
    Apr 25, 2015 11:17 AM - JeffTheMess: nope
    Apr 25, 2015 11:17 AM - Bill Monroe: ok..
Apr 25, 2015 11:17 AM - Bill Monroe: you have an LCD?

    Apr 25, 2015 11:19 AM - Bill Monroe: hmm you're using S3D?
    Apr 25, 2015 11:19 AM - JeffTheMess: yes
Apr 25, 2015 11:19 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. have you looked at the temperature plot?
Apr 25, 2015 11:20 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, everything looks good on the plot
Apr 25, 2015 11:20 AM - Bill Monroe: ok so S3D knows the nozzle is hot
Apr 25, 2015 11:21 AM - Bill Monroe: do you know how to read the G Code?
Apr 25, 2015 11:22 AM - JeffTheMess: the reason im using s3d is for the support so if i have to export it to something else ill be fine with that.
    Apr 25, 2015 11:22 AM - JeffTheMess: i can get around it a little
Apr 25, 2015 11:22 AM - Bill Monroe: should be OK, are you using an SD card?
Apr 25, 2015 11:23 AM - JeffTheMess: not yet because i want to be sure it is working properly first before i move on
Apr 25, 2015 11:23 AM - Bill Monroe: alrighty... can you open the G Code file?
Apr 25, 2015 11:31 AM - JeffTheMess: sorry dont know how to i tried to open it
Apr 25, 2015 11:33 AM - Bill Monroe: you can use notepad
Apr 25, 2015 11:33 AM - Bill Monroe: it's just an ordinary text file
Apr 25, 2015 11:34 AM - JeffTheMess: ok got it open

    Apr 25, 2015 11:35 AM - JeffTheMess: ok
Apr 25, 2015 11:35 AM - Bill Monroe: do they have E numbers at the end of the line? Like E0.5432
Apr 25, 2015 11:36 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah all lines have it

Apr 25, 2015 11:36 AM - Bill Monroe: ok so S3D is sending extruder commands
Apr 25, 2015 11:37 AM - Bill Monroe: all the numbers are diffeent yes? they not all E0.0000 are they?
Apr 25, 2015 11:37 AM - donhuevo: does s3d have a manual extrusion button like repetier has?
    Apr 25, 2015 11:37 AM - jbigler1986: Yes
Apr 25, 2015 11:37 AM - Bill Monroe: it does.. we'll be looking at that next
Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - donhuevo: sorry. didn't mean to butt in
    Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - Bill Monroe: they're all E0.0000?
Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - JeffTheMess: (jeez Bill you know your stuff(so far)), yeah each line has a different E number
    Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - Bill Monroe: oh ok <phew>
Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, close that file
    Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - JeffTheMess: ok
Apr 25, 2015 11:38 AM - donhuevo: started thinking either the extruder idler bearing was clamped onto the filament or the filament's been chewed by the hob
Apr 25, 2015 11:39 AM - Bill Monroe: if they were all zeros, that's a setup problem but it soulds now like you have a hardware issues.. lets try Don's suggestion
Apr 25, 2015 11:39 AM - Bill Monroe: open your machine control panel
Apr 25, 2015 11:40 AM - JeffTheMess: jog control had manual extruding Don
Apr 25, 2015 11:40 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, see if the extruder will move using the jog.. you're extruder will need to be up to temp for it to move, even manually
    Apr 25, 2015 11:41 AM - Bill Monroe: <make sure you're connected too>
Apr 25, 2015 11:41 AM - JeffTheMess: i tried to manually extrude it let me quickly hop into mattercontrol to ensure that it can extrude i had success there
Apr 25, 2015 11:42 AM - JeffTheMess: just to see if it is hardware related
    Apr 25, 2015 11:42 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, that's wierd
Apr 25, 2015 11:42 AM - donhuevo: repetier has a dry run option. does s3d?
Apr 25, 2015 11:42 AM - Bill Monroe: do you know how to exposrt the .fff file from S3D?
Apr 25, 2015 11:44 AM - Bill Monroe: I never tried that Don, I think you'd have to fake it out to intentionally print air
Apr 25, 2015 11:44 AM - JeffTheMess: just export the profile right?
Apr 25, 2015 11:44 AM - Bill Monroe: yes, export the profile.. do you have dropbox?
Apr 25, 2015 11:45 AM - JeffTheMess: it extruded through mattercontrol...sorry no dropbox
Apr 25, 2015 11:46 AM - Bill Monroe: ok then just email it to me.. I'll look for obvisou stuff and if that's all ok, try to run it
Apr 25, 2015 11:46 AM - Bill Monroe: maybe you can send yourr .stl too?
Apr 25, 2015 11:47 AM - JeffTheMess: sure, i guess you can pm me your email?

Apr 25, 2015 12:28 PM - JeffTheMess: something must be off on my printer maybe the thermistor is loose? so it reads zero at times thus the "cold extrusion prevented"?
Apr 25, 2015 12:29 PM - Bill Monroe: you said the S3D showed the temp was good?
Apr 25, 2015 12:29 PM - JeffTheMess: ill try that bill thanks, you dont have to print it, i greatly appreaciate
Apr 25, 2015 12:30 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah but if its loose it would show up 99% of the time and be off for 1? just thinking out load I guess
Apr 25, 2015 12:30 PM - Bill Monroe: dunno doesnt hurt to reboot
    Apr 25, 2015 12:30 PM - JeffTheMess: loud*

Apr 25, 2015 1:16 PM - JeffTheMess: figured it out..if you manually set the a higher temp in the control panel s3d see it as off or cold
    Apr 25, 2015 1:16 PM - JeffTheMess: yup
    Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: damn
Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - JeffTheMess: so it does extrude it must match the robo setting
    Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - JeffTheMess: i wana see how similar its to mine
Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: might look confusing. it will make more sense once it's installed
Apr 25, 2015 1:17 PM - JeffTheMess: how will it hold to the bed
Apr 25, 2015 1:18 PM - jbigler1986: double sided tape. those 2 pegs goes inbetween the glass and the bed rail then double sided tape on the flat piece on the bottom
Apr 25, 2015 1:19 PM - jbigler1986: it will make more sense once it's installed
    Apr 25, 2015 1:24 PM - jbigler1986: does that make sense?
    Apr 25, 2015 1:25 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah i got it
Apr 25, 2015 1:26 PM - JeffTheMess: how will the camera be held same way?
    Apr 25, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: yeah. my camera has a weird mount
    Apr 25, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: it's made to mount on top of a monitor
Apr 25, 2015 1:37 PM - JeffTheMess: cool, you can adjust how much you can see, i made that mistake i can see too high
    Apr 25, 2015 1:42 PM - JeffTheMess: here's mine [IMG]
    Apr 25, 2015 1:42 PM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
    Apr 25, 2015 1:42 PM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
Apr 25, 2015 1:48 PM - Bill Monroe: nice to see you mailed it Jeff
    Apr 25, 2015 1:48 PM - Bill Monroe: nailed
Apr 25, 2015 1:48 PM - Bill Monroe: now, get and LCD panel.. NOT the graphics one cuz, the graphics suck and dont help
Apr 25, 2015 1:49 PM - Bill Monroe: ok.. homework here I come
Apr 25, 2015 1:50 PM - jbigler1986: Get the graphics one. There is a reason MK wanted one.
Apr 25, 2015 1:51 PM - Bill Monroe: there's a reason you like it too.. doesnt make it good :)
    Apr 25, 2015 1:52 PM - jbigler1986: Haha. I really don't know the difference.
Apr 25, 2015 1:52 PM - jbigler1986: I just know the xxl was more expensive and people are going to the full graphics
Apr 25, 2015 1:52 PM - Bill Monroe: if it was full color high res touch screen, THEN it would be full graphics
Apr 25, 2015 1:52 PM - Bill Monroe: they have XXS too ...
    Apr 25, 2015 1:52 PM - Bill Monroe: under $20
Apr 25, 2015 1:53 PM - Bill Monroe: I like to be able to see what it says from across the lab is all.. worth it for me
Apr 25, 2015 1:54 PM - Bill Monroe: I've got Labview monitoring it now, soon it'll feed the 60" screen in my lab
    Apr 25, 2015 1:55 PM - JeffTheMess: nice
Apr 25, 2015 1:56 PM - Bill Monroe: that so-called "full graphics" screen looks about as nice as a tamagachi
Apr 25, 2015 1:57 PM - Bill Monroe: opinions ecpressed herein are my own but will probably be used against me.... again
    Apr 25, 2015 2:03 PM - JeffTheMess: support is awesome on s3d
Apr 25, 2015 2:04 PM - Bill Monroe: for a single nozzle, yes it is
Apr 25, 2015 2:05 PM - JeffTheMess: u dont like it with dual?
Apr 25, 2015 2:06 PM - Bill Monroe: its not that I dont like it.. I use 100% fill with dual using dissolvable so, any slicer that'll run duals works fine
Apr 25, 2015 2:07 PM - Bill Monroe: but it ya only got one blowhole, S3D is prime
Apr 25, 2015 2:08 PM - Bill Monroe: it outshines the others in a lot of ways though
Apr 25, 2015 2:08 PM - Bill Monroe: I'd love it if it had a hexagon pattern infill like SLic3D
Apr 25, 2015 2:08 PM - JeffTheMess: it has a netfabb type features on it
Apr 25, 2015 2:09 PM - Bill Monroe: ive never used netfabb
Apr 25, 2015 2:13 PM - Bill Monroe: .... thought for the day "Hemostats are excellent for scatching the inside of your ear"
Apr 25, 2015 2:14 PM - jbigler1986: Bill on the xxl. When you are 90 I understand why you would want a bigger screen. :p
Apr 25, 2015 2:15 PM - Bill Monroe: actually, it's not big enough yet.. that's why the info will be on the HHD screen
Apr 25, 2015 2:16 PM - Bill Monroe: errr UHD
Apr 25, 2015 2:16 PM - Bill Monroe: even the robo guys use the lil one..
    Apr 25, 2015 2:20 PM - Bill Monroe: omg
Apr 25, 2015 2:21 PM - Bill Monroe: I just got an invoice in the mail for a part for a plane I sold 4 years ago
    Apr 25, 2015 2:21 PM - Bill Monroe: no.. 5 years ago
Apr 25, 2015 2:42 PM - WayUpNorthMN: So, could anyone explain this? https://www.dropbox.com/s/okjb47gyqf1hosv/fan.png?dl=0
Apr 25, 2015 2:45 PM - mark tomlinson: ABS? Too much cooling.
Apr 25, 2015 2:45 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Nah, PLA, and no cooling (hence why I am making a fan shroud) :)
Apr 25, 2015 2:46 PM - mark tomlinson: ABS is a bitch. You need zero air circulation and you need to keep the temp stable. Cool too quick and it does exactly that. Hard to do without a heated chamber.
    Apr 25, 2015 2:46 PM - mark tomlinson: PLA?
Apr 25, 2015 2:46 PM - mark tomlinson: Too cold
    Apr 25, 2015 2:46 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Yep
Apr 25, 2015 2:46 PM - mark tomlinson: Increase the nozzle temp and check your extrusion
Apr 25, 2015 2:46 PM - mark tomlinson: Make sure you are not underextruding
Apr 25, 2015 2:47 PM - mark tomlinson: Harder to get PLa to do that than ABS :)
Apr 25, 2015 2:47 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Well I guess I dont have any cooling on it yet after my E3D install, so that could be.
Apr 25, 2015 2:47 PM - mark tomlinson: Yes, PLA needs a parts cooling fan
Apr 25, 2015 2:48 PM - mark tomlinson: ABS, not. so. much
Apr 25, 2015 2:49 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Might you have a diagram for the measurements of a 40mm fan? I need to do a bit of modifications to this shroud.
Apr 25, 2015 2:50 PM - mark tomlinson: Not handy. I used the shroud someone else did
    Apr 25, 2015 2:50 PM - mark tomlinson: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:697200
Apr 25, 2015 2:50 PM - mark tomlinson: something like that one, but for my E3D v5
    Apr 25, 2015 2:51 PM - mark tomlinson: That one is for a v6
Apr 25, 2015 2:51 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Thats the exact one I printed from Novice Expert
Apr 25, 2015 2:51 PM - WayUpNorthMN: BUT, the fan doesnt quite fit.
Apr 25, 2015 2:52 PM - mark tomlinson: just put a circ fan blowing on the bed and print your own fan duct :)
Apr 25, 2015 2:54 PM - mark tomlinson: That will keep things going good enough to get your duct printed.
    Apr 25, 2015 2:58 PM - jbigler1986: what is wrong about it
Apr 25, 2015 3:00 PM - mark tomlinson: well, that one is remixed from: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:382184 Try the original.
Apr 25, 2015 3:00 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Just the 3 missed layers. Nothing too serious. Still a very good quality print for not having any cooling
    Apr 25, 2015 4:05 PM - jbigler1986: I don't like having that little of clearance with those
Apr 25, 2015 4:06 PM - dbvanhorn: Something is fishy.. Went through hell with the main system for the last two days, very crashy, seems to crash whenever I'm printing. So this morning I gave up and went to my B system which has never seen a robo before. Now the B system is crashing but only during a print.
Apr 25, 2015 4:06 PM - dbvanhorn: I take it nobody else is seeing this
Apr 25, 2015 4:06 PM - Bill Monroe: your printing from mattercontrol?
    Apr 25, 2015 4:07 PM - Bill Monroe: you're
Apr 25, 2015 4:07 PM - dbvanhorn: At the moment. The main system is shut down. I have Cura on there, but I mostly use MC
Apr 25, 2015 4:07 PM - Bill Monroe: I guess I should have aksed if you're printing from an SD card?
Apr 25, 2015 4:07 PM - dbvanhorn: Spybot, malware bytes all come up clean.
    Apr 25, 2015 4:08 PM - dbvanhorn: Nope, haven
Apr 25, 2015 4:08 PM - dbvanhorn: havent learned to do that yet
Apr 25, 2015 4:08 PM - Bill Monroe: ok.. what you're seing is common.. probably has to do with comm issues on the USB
Apr 25, 2015 4:08 PM - dbvanhorn: It has been dead reliable up to now, and I am very queasy that the B system is suddenly unreliable.
Apr 25, 2015 4:09 PM - Bill Monroe: could be a variety of things .. connections, cable issues.. interference

Apr 25, 2015 4:09 PM - Bill Monroe: it's the #1 reason people move to SD cards
Apr 25, 2015 4:09 PM - dbvanhorn: Ive been running my printer a lot since I got it, no crashes till two days ago
Apr 25, 2015 4:10 PM - Bill Monroe: mine was fine for awhile too... i noticed if I disconnected the computer from the internet and didnt touch it while the print was underway, it was better
Apr 25, 2015 4:10 PM - Bill Monroe: but zero problems once I crossed over to the SD card team
Apr 25, 2015 4:11 PM - dbvanhorn: I use USB heavily for drives, debugging (Im an embedded systems guy) test equipment etc.
Apr 25, 2015 4:12 PM - dbvanhorn: At the moment, the B system is set up with just the keyboard, mouse, and robo, no external drives, and Im using the browser.
Apr 25, 2015 4:13 PM - Bill Monroe: Nice to know ya, I'm working on my C++ cert now.. in any case.. shut down anything but your control program, disable your ethernet connection, dont touch it while it's printing.. dont let it do anything, not even scrensave.
Apr 25, 2015 4:14 PM - dbvanhorn: I had crashes lt night on the main system running cura, so its not mc
Apr 25, 2015 4:14 PM - Bill Monroe: no, the data moving across the USB gets tagged by in interrupt.. you're toast
Apr 25, 2015 4:15 PM - dbvanhorn: if that's the case, then somehing is horribly wrong with the driver.
Apr 25, 2015 4:15 PM - Bill Monroe: i had a little luck assigning priority to the control program above everything else but there's still windows housekeeping that goes on you cant control
Apr 25, 2015 4:16 PM - dbvanhorn: I have no problems moving terabytes of data by USB on these systems
Apr 25, 2015 4:16 PM - Bill Monroe: i htink the real issue is the handshaking between the arduino, but I cant back that up with paper
Apr 25, 2015 4:17 PM - Bill Monroe: i followed all the advice everyine had, they all said get an LCD with an SD port.. I did.. solved
Apr 25, 2015 4:17 PM - dbvanhorn: sounds plausible. I wonder if using a lower baud rate will help
Apr 25, 2015 4:18 PM - Bill Monroe: i dont think so.. I;ve seen something about the arduino getting dicey due to sync issues at other baud rates which is why they use an unconvetntional number
Apr 25, 2015 4:19 PM - dbvanhorn: then they wrote it wrong
Apr 25, 2015 4:19 PM - insomniac_lemon: Wowee, my extruder holder works like a charm!
    Apr 25, 2015 4:19 PM - Bill Monroe: braggart :)
Apr 25, 2015 4:19 PM - Bill Monroe: well db.. it's open source.. we're often at the mercy of hackers
Apr 25, 2015 4:20 PM - insomniac_lemon: Just drilled some holes, 2 zip ties on each extruder, and 1 (reusable) zip tie with a washer on it holding the holder to the robo case via the top slot
Apr 25, 2015 4:20 PM - Bill Monroe: Marlin doerst requests for data on the SD card so it never misses something when it's busy
    Apr 25, 2015 4:21 PM - Bill Monroe: -doerst
    Apr 25, 2015 4:21 PM - Bill Monroe: my typing is my #1 problem doing C :)
    Apr 25, 2015 4:21 PM - insomniac_lemon: do'herst
Apr 25, 2015 4:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: I've got basically everything prepared to install the cyclops! Basically all I need to do is put the carriage on and get everything wired!
    Apr 25, 2015 4:22 PM - Bill Monroe: I'm sorry
    Apr 25, 2015 4:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: Which is great because it's taken me forever -___-
    Apr 25, 2015 4:23 PM - insomniac_lemon: Sorry about what, Bill?
Apr 25, 2015 4:23 PM - Bill Monroe: I wish you the best of luck.. from what I've seen for other's cyclops results, and from my experience with the Chimera, you're going to need it
Apr 25, 2015 4:25 PM - insomniac_lemon: Dang.... hopefully people just have been having bad results because they weren't calibrated
Apr 25, 2015 4:25 PM - Bill Monroe: me too
Apr 25, 2015 4:25 PM - insomniac_lemon: Why, what happened with your Chimera?
Apr 25, 2015 4:25 PM - Bill Monroe: I think the heatsick is way too small
    Apr 25, 2015 4:26 PM - insomniac_lemon: You mean heatsink?
Apr 25, 2015 4:26 PM - Bill Monroe: VERY difficult to get the nozzles at the same level and they MUST be EXACTLY the same.. and they dont stay there
Apr 25, 2015 4:26 PM - Bill Monroe: ya heheh sink
Apr 25, 2015 4:26 PM - insomniac_lemon: Huh.... they made it seem like you just lower the bed and secure their grub screws
Apr 25, 2015 4:26 PM - Bill Monroe: drooling is a problem, if you pull back enough to stop it you're too far into the cool zone and jam
    Apr 25, 2015 4:27 PM - Bill Monroe: I know.. it's not that easy
Apr 25, 2015 4:27 PM - Bill Monroe: i contstantly had one nozzle butterknifing the print
Apr 25, 2015 4:27 PM - dbvanhorn: the avr should be rock sold at any baud rate.
Apr 25, 2015 4:28 PM - Bill Monroe: I'm not an expert db, i've only seen success by trial
Apr 25, 2015 4:28 PM - insomniac_lemon: You sure that wasn't overextrusion, Bill? I know I've had that already with the hex a few times...
Apr 25, 2015 4:29 PM - dbvanhorn: I have been developing sw for the avr for 20 years . (!)
Apr 25, 2015 4:29 PM - Bill Monroe: i'm sure.. I worked on it for a couple of months.. I finally disable on of them and removed the tip so I could at least print my own idea BUT, still had drool and jam issues...
Apr 25, 2015 4:29 PM - Bill Monroe: well then fix it DB!!!
Apr 25, 2015 4:29 PM - dbvanhorn: not arduino though..
    Apr 25, 2015 4:30 PM - Bill Monroe: well, like I said, i dunno
    Apr 25, 2015 4:30 PM - jbigler1986: What have I been missing
Apr 25, 2015 4:30 PM - dbvanhorn: Never much liked the arduino platform, embedded systems with training wheels.
Apr 25, 2015 4:31 PM - Bill Monroe: enbedded experts never do
Apr 25, 2015 4:31 PM - dbvanhorn: It does seem that printing to the robo is the common thread. I let the A system run all night on a burn-in and no issues, crashed about 5 mins into a print.
Apr 25, 2015 4:32 PM - dbvanhorn: But why now, after months of printing fine hour after hour.
Apr 25, 2015 4:32 PM - Bill Monroe: I've offered all the wisdom I have on that ;)
Apr 25, 2015 4:32 PM - dbvanhorn: Arduino does let you get a big app running fast, but it's not solid code that you can trust.
    Apr 25, 2015 4:32 PM - jbigler1986: What issues are having
    Apr 25, 2015 4:32 PM - dbvanhorn: Just frustrated...
Apr 25, 2015 4:33 PM - dbvanhorn: Main system got very crashy about 2 days ago, but only when printing to the robo.
Apr 25, 2015 4:33 PM - Bill Monroe: here comes jb with his "Full Graphics" non-graphic solutiuon :)
    Apr 25, 2015 4:33 PM - Bill Monroe: <poke jb>
Apr 25, 2015 4:34 PM - dbvanhorn: I'm on the B system now, which hadn't been rebooted for months, and it crashed a few minutes into a print once I installed the MC software and got it talking to the printer.
Apr 25, 2015 4:34 PM - dbvanhorn: No particular time between fails, and I just completed a short print without issues.
Apr 25, 2015 4:34 PM - jbigler1986: nope. full graphics vs xxl won't help prints in any way besides both printing from sd
Apr 25, 2015 4:35 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, agred
    Apr 25, 2015 4:35 PM - Bill Monroe: agreed
Apr 25, 2015 4:35 PM - dbvanhorn: But this system has been rock solid, and has nothing beyond the keyboard, mouse and robo on the USB
Apr 25, 2015 4:35 PM - Bill Monroe: maybe someone is playing rap nearby.. everyone knows that really just a bunch of static
Apr 25, 2015 4:35 PM - jbigler1986: Robo should only be allowed to print from SD to be honest
Apr 25, 2015 4:36 PM - Bill Monroe: Robo isnt the only one..
Apr 25, 2015 4:36 PM - jbigler1986: all should. just saying since this is robo forum
Apr 25, 2015 4:36 PM - dbvanhorn: I have seen PCs and other systems that I could easily outrun with the AVR, but not the other way around.
Apr 25, 2015 4:36 PM - jbigler1986: any little usb glitch for any issue will ruin a print
Apr 25, 2015 4:37 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok... so assume I have the gcode on an SD, how do I print from it? No LCD display here.
Apr 25, 2015 4:37 PM - dbvanhorn: I move terabytes of data on USB with no issues.
Apr 25, 2015 4:37 PM - Bill Monroe: xfer the gcode to the chip, then te software to run from the chip
Apr 25, 2015 4:38 PM - Bill Monroe: but I've never tried it myself, I was an early adopter of the XXL!
Apr 25, 2015 4:38 PM - dbvanhorn: Can you expand on that last bit?
Apr 25, 2015 4:39 PM - dbvanhorn: Gcode on SD, SD in printer, and then....?
Apr 25, 2015 4:39 PM - Bill Monroe: ok, I only know S3D, it's been a long time since I used anything else.. but I think all of them (even MC) can save the sliced gcode to an SD card right jb?
Apr 25, 2015 4:39 PM - jbigler1986: that data can have minor glitches at times and still continue on without issues. printing which is constantly sending data through usb having a glitch will cause issues
    Apr 25, 2015 4:39 PM - dbvanhorn: BTDT
Apr 25, 2015 4:40 PM - dbvanhorn: In MC, how do I tell the printer to print from a gcode file on the SD that's plugged into the printer?
Apr 25, 2015 4:41 PM - jbigler1986: what i like to do is save the gcode to sd with either cura or s3d. then i control the printer from repetier
Apr 25, 2015 4:42 PM - jbigler1986: start the prints from sd card with repetier
    Apr 25, 2015 4:43 PM - dbvanhorn: downloading
Apr 25, 2015 4:44 PM - Bill Monroe: why dont you start them in S3D?
Apr 25, 2015 4:45 PM - jbigler1986: well that's the way i use to do it. i usually just start from lcd since i rarely have a failed print anymore
Apr 25, 2015 4:45 PM - Bill Monroe: ah OK
Apr 25, 2015 4:46 PM - Bill Monroe: I tired polishing the bronzefill.. no one told me not to use a power buffer :)
    Apr 25, 2015 4:47 PM - jbigler1986: lol
    Apr 25, 2015 4:47 PM - dbvanhorn: Thermoplastic..... :)
    Apr 25, 2015 4:48 PM - Bill Monroe: ya.. what was I thinking? :)
Apr 25, 2015 4:48 PM - dbvanhorn: Would be cool if they could figure a way that it would "cure" after one heat/cool cycle and no longer be meltable at low temps
Apr 25, 2015 4:48 PM - Bill Monroe: eh.. I'll sand it an toss it in the gun brass polisher.. she what that does
Apr 25, 2015 4:49 PM - insomniac_lemon: dbvanhorn: somebody actually did something like that..... well, there is filiment out there where if you fire it in a kiln it turns to 99.9% metal or something like that
Apr 25, 2015 4:49 PM - dbvanhorn: I tumbled some PLA parts for days without much effect though it did remove the "hair"
Apr 25, 2015 4:49 PM - dbvanhorn: I bet that is fun stuff to work with.
Apr 25, 2015 4:50 PM - Bill Monroe: I wanna build a large machine and extrude concrete
    Apr 25, 2015 4:51 PM - dbvanhorn: I don't want to have to unclog that nozzle.... C4?

    Apr 25, 2015 4:51 PM - Bill Monroe: ha!
Apr 25, 2015 4:52 PM - Bill Monroe: i'm thinking custom sidewalk sections.. maybe sundial platforms
Apr 25, 2015 4:52 PM - dbvanhorn: I was going to set up a linux machine for printing, but I got very tired of all the "but first you have to...."
Apr 25, 2015 4:52 PM - Bill Monroe: linux.. programming for masochists
    Apr 25, 2015 4:53 PM - insomniac_lemon: I print on Linix :p
    Apr 25, 2015 4:53 PM - insomniac_lemon: *Linux
    Apr 25, 2015 4:53 PM - dbvanhorn: I print on a table.
Apr 25, 2015 4:53 PM - Bill Monroe: know we know more about the lemon
Apr 25, 2015 4:54 PM - insomniac_lemon: I Slice with Repetier and then print with Pronterface
Apr 25, 2015 4:54 PM - Bill Monroe: pronterfacer sounds like a lady gaga tune
Apr 25, 2015 4:54 PM - dbvanhorn: Seriously, I have a little zotac box that could have pretty much any linux distro on it, if I can get a working environment set up, and get !@#~!@$@ permission to use the serial port.
Apr 25, 2015 4:55 PM - insomniac_lemon: I guess I could do both with Repetier but I never got around to changing the baud rate to something Repetier would accept.
Apr 25, 2015 4:55 PM - Bill Monroe: the only linux thing i have running is a raspberry pi, and I wont let it in the house :)
Apr 25, 2015 4:55 PM - dbvanhorn: Consumer facing linux machines do NOT need the security settings appropriate to multiuser concurrent setups.
Apr 25, 2015 4:56 PM - dbvanhorn: It seems there's always one more thing that you have to do first, before you can get anything done.
Apr 25, 2015 4:57 PM - Bill Monroe: way too many syllables for me at this time of the day
    Apr 25, 2015 4:57 PM - insomniac_lemon: C'est la vie, dbvanhorn.
Apr 25, 2015 4:57 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok, when this cal print is done, or on the next crash, I will try to figure out how to drive it with repetier.
    Apr 25, 2015 4:57 PM - insomniac_lemon: Every OS sucks.
    Apr 25, 2015 4:57 PM - dbvanhorn: There's a song about that
Apr 25, 2015 4:57 PM - dbvanhorn: Three dead trolls in a baggie.
    Apr 25, 2015 4:58 PM - Bill Monroe: my VIC20 never crashed :)
Apr 25, 2015 4:58 PM - dbvanhorn: YAY Vic 20.. My second computer
Apr 25, 2015 4:58 PM - Bill Monroe: me too had an IMSAI 8080 before that
    Apr 25, 2015 4:58 PM - dbvanhorn: I built a 32k expansion for that one, with a single 32kx8 SRAM chip. $$$
    Apr 25, 2015 4:58 PM - Bill Monroe: a few pdp-11s.. toggle switch bootstrap!
    Apr 25, 2015 4:59 PM - dbvanhorn: OSI-C1P was my first.
Apr 25, 2015 4:59 PM - dbvanhorn: I have an altair clone on my desk at work. Runs on an AVR, interpreting the original code.
Apr 25, 2015 4:59 PM - insomniac_lemon: Most of my issues with Linux recently seems to be because people in the community have poor decision making skills and nobody has bothered collaborating on the simple stuff to reduce issues.
Apr 25, 2015 5:00 PM - Bill Monroe: my first real desktop was a monster with 8" floppy drives, cant remember what is was called
    Apr 25, 2015 5:00 PM - Bill Monroe: Datapoint! that's it
    Apr 25, 2015 5:00 PM - Bill Monroe: <-- still avoiding dimentia
Apr 25, 2015 5:00 PM - insomniac_lemon: Like how issues with having a sound applet is a thing. Seriously if I switch from one DE to another I don't want different settings.

Apr 25, 2015 5:03 PM - Bill Monroe: that was the first computer I saw porn on.. a real creative text printout on dot matrix pinfeed
Apr 25, 2015 5:03 PM - dbvanhorn: When we were designing the Verifone credit card terminals, we used 6 MHz Z-80 systems to design on. The credit card terminals were 4 MHz Z-80 systems
Apr 25, 2015 5:04 PM - insomniac_lemon: Man I didn't realize the Cyclops used a wipe tower.... does it need to do that even if it doesn't switch colors? What happens if you have layers that use one color and then switches near the end?
Apr 25, 2015 5:04 PM - dbvanhorn: Ah yes. Ascii porn
    Apr 25, 2015 5:04 PM - Bill Monroe: drool
    Apr 25, 2015 5:04 PM - Bill Monroe: hairs
Apr 25, 2015 5:05 PM - Bill Monroe: it's a lot of work to cross to the darkside of duals
Apr 25, 2015 5:07 PM - Bill Monroe: I have great hope for my dual nozzle design
Apr 25, 2015 5:07 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, hopefully I get it working good.... I need it for quite a few things
Apr 25, 2015 5:08 PM - insomniac_lemon: Mainly keycaps.... to do something like double-shot keys
Apr 25, 2015 5:08 PM - Bill Monroe: I'll keep my extruders crossed for you
Apr 25, 2015 5:11 PM - dbvanhorn: Double shot keys rock
Apr 25, 2015 5:12 PM - Bill Monroe: never heard of them, but they sound like something that I should have salt and lemon ready for
Apr 25, 2015 5:12 PM - dbvanhorn: The letter is a dark color plastic, and the rest light color, or the reverse.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:12 PM - insomniac_lemon: Yeah.... well hopefully I can make a 3D-printed version, haha
Apr 25, 2015 5:12 PM - dbvanhorn: No paint to wear off.
Apr 25, 2015 5:13 PM - dbvanhorn: We used DS keys on the verifone terminals for that reason.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:13 PM - Bill Monroe: ah
Apr 25, 2015 5:13 PM - dbvanhorn: Competition used cheap rubber keys with pad printing that wore off in a few months.
Apr 25, 2015 5:13 PM - insomniac_lemon: Not sure if I posted it here but I'm planning to make my own 50-key keyboard: http://i.imgur.com/4Nsmtju.png
Apr 25, 2015 5:14 PM - dbvanhorn: Nice! Small footprint too
Apr 25, 2015 5:14 PM - Bill Monroe: i use the keyboards we put on med stations
    Apr 25, 2015 5:14 PM - jbigler1986: http://imgur.com/7heiGEU
Apr 25, 2015 5:15 PM - insomniac_lemon: Yep. That's partially the reason I wanted to make it, I've got a 100-something keyboard on a TV-dinner table and it takes up the full width of it
Apr 25, 2015 5:15 PM - dbvanhorn: jb: Cool! I have the same camera
Apr 25, 2015 5:15 PM - dbvanhorn: Did you design the holder?
    Apr 25, 2015 5:15 PM - Bill Monroe: I do too :)
Apr 25, 2015 5:15 PM - Bill Monroe: i dont use it on the robo though
    Apr 25, 2015 5:15 PM - jbigler1986: Want the mount file?
    Apr 25, 2015 5:16 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah I just designed and printed it
    Apr 25, 2015 5:16 PM - dbvanhorn: Yes please
Apr 25, 2015 5:16 PM - insomniac_lemon: Also I don't like most keyboards out there. Don't want the function keys but want arrow keys. I sorta designed it towards my own usage.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:16 PM - jbigler1986: Give me a minute db
Apr 25, 2015 5:17 PM - dbvanhorn: I used to buy short kbs like that for my hardware bench, regular keyboards eat up too much space.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:18 PM - insomniac_lemon: dbvanhorn: I'll probably be selling, haha
Apr 25, 2015 5:19 PM - insomniac_lemon: On Etsy..... if everything works out
Apr 25, 2015 5:21 PM - dbvanhorn: Keyboards are quite a project. Getting the fit and feel right is a pain.
Apr 25, 2015 5:21 PM - insomniac_lemon: Plus I'm still using my dome keyboard that came with my pre-built. Thought I might try out mech
Apr 25, 2015 5:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: Yeah, you're right. I've not actually *tried* anything like it, but I've reworked the design quite a few times
Apr 25, 2015 5:22 PM - dbvanhorn: aggh.. Domes They split after a while.
Apr 25, 2015 5:23 PM - dbvanhorn: The best we ever got to was silicone pads under doubleshot keys. Lots of work on the silicone mold to get them not too stiff, and not too soft.
Apr 25, 2015 5:24 PM - insomniac_lemon: I actually saw a KB similar to mine I liked..... Rosewill Micro RK-9000.... but the MX brown version seems to be discontinued, and only blue is left.
Apr 25, 2015 5:24 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok. Test print done, switched robo off and unplugged usb. Now repetier is up.
Apr 25, 2015 5:24 PM - insomniac_lemon: And I hate the feel of blues, at least the one I got I didn't like how it clicked. I like tactile but not clicky.
Apr 25, 2015 5:25 PM - insomniac_lemon: dbvanhorn: Trying to print on Linux?
Apr 25, 2015 5:25 PM - dbvanhorn: I'm using a razer synapse here, with space mouse and steel series mouse.
Apr 25, 2015 5:25 PM - dbvanhorn: I'd LOVE to get a linux machine up, but for now if I can get printing from SD working I will be happy
    Apr 25, 2015 5:26 PM - jbigler1986: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x2cqigqz5kn6mql/cameramount.STL?dl=0
    Apr 25, 2015 5:26 PM - jbigler1986: There ya go db
Apr 25, 2015 5:26 PM - dbvanhorn: I spend most of my day laying out PCBs in Altium, working with complicated enclosures, and then designing antennas for them using XFdtd
Apr 25, 2015 5:27 PM - insomniac_lemon: So.... your issue is you don't even have any sort of setup? It was sort of a pain, but I'm using Arch now.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:27 PM - dbvanhorn: jb: Thanks!
    Apr 25, 2015 5:27 PM - dbvanhorn: Arch what?
Apr 25, 2015 5:28 PM - insomniac_lemon: Arch Linux. Crazy advanced DIY type Linux. Build it from the ground up. Although I cheated and used Antegros.
Apr 25, 2015 5:29 PM - dbvanhorn: I was never able to get the serial ports to be accessible. "all you have to do" is add your user account to the group that has permissions for the serial port. But first you have to... And before that you have to....
Apr 25, 2015 5:30 PM - insomniac_lemon: I just sort of threw different stuff at it until I got it to work
Apr 25, 2015 5:31 PM - dbvanhorn: Ideally, I would get that running, and then put Splashtop on it so I can admin it from my desktop.
Apr 25, 2015 5:32 PM - insomniac_lemon: Whatever groups other tuts say to add, I did.... Tty was one of them, I think there was another
Apr 25, 2015 5:33 PM - insomniac_lemon: But I don't see a way to look at user groups in MATE.... seriously they need to unify on that, it's ridiculous.
Apr 25, 2015 5:33 PM - dbvanhorn: I need simple, without spending hours and hours of "zork" to get it operational.
    Apr 25, 2015 5:33 PM - dbvanhorn: (remember zork?)
Apr 25, 2015 5:33 PM - Bill Monroe: sadly, yes
Apr 25, 2015 5:34 PM - dbvanhorn: I play zork on my Altair. Runs on Bill's original basic
Apr 25, 2015 5:34 PM - Bill Monroe: but I remember when it was only available on service mainframes and was called "Adventure"
Apr 25, 2015 5:34 PM - Bill Monroe: taken from The Hobbitt

Apr 25, 2015 5:34 PM - dbvanhorn: At least in windows I don't have to spend hours combing web pages to access a serial port.
Apr 25, 2015 5:35 PM - insomniac_lemon: Before my Era, but I love Adventure games, I have "Return to Zork" bookmarked to play on ScummVM some day.
Apr 25, 2015 5:36 PM - Bill Monroe: the nerds at SDSU in the 80s named their servers after land in midle earth
Apr 25, 2015 5:36 PM - insomniac_lemon: dbvanhorn: don't suppose you tried Kicad on Linux for making PCBs?
Apr 25, 2015 5:36 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok, repetier sees the printer and is connected.
Apr 25, 2015 5:36 PM - Bill Monroe: my company named them after reindeer
Apr 25, 2015 5:36 PM - dbvanhorn: Looked at Kicad, but not enough there to get me to switch, plus all our parts are altium libs.
Apr 25, 2015 5:36 PM - Bill Monroe: woudl put all the programmers on "Dancer" cuz.. well you know.. they were programmers
Apr 25, 2015 5:37 PM - dbvanhorn: Schematic symbol, footprint, 3D model, data sheet, and TONS of parameter information. I get BOM costs live while I'm designing.
Apr 25, 2015 5:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: Bill, was Rudolf the greatest server of all?
    Apr 25, 2015 5:37 PM - Bill Monroe: I have no idea
Apr 25, 2015 5:38 PM - Bill Monroe: wait.. the programmers were all on Prancer
Apr 25, 2015 5:38 PM - Bill Monroe: *I* was the only one on Blitzen :)
Apr 25, 2015 5:39 PM - Bill Monroe: email at SDSU was always Rohan
Apr 25, 2015 5:39 PM - Bill Monroe: and I'm amazed I remember all this
Apr 25, 2015 5:40 PM - dbvanhorn: Fond memories.. :) I was fixing PONG arcade games in high school, when I wasn't doing TV repair.
Apr 25, 2015 5:40 PM - dbvanhorn: HUGE PCB with a very overstressed linear regulator that turned the PCB brown.
Apr 25, 2015 5:41 PM - Bill Monroe: I ran the Circuit Board Assembly shop that made all the boards for some huge game company here in San Diego
Apr 25, 2015 5:41 PM - dbvanhorn: OK, Repetier SD manager shows nothing. As if the SD is blank.
Apr 25, 2015 5:41 PM - dbvanhorn: Remember Excellon Drill tapes?
Apr 25, 2015 5:41 PM - Bill Monroe: on paper tape!
Apr 25, 2015 5:42 PM - dbvanhorn: The Verifone ZON circuit boards were hand done with paper tape. No light table, we hung it on a window, which worked well till we came back from lunch and there was a trace on the floor.
Apr 25, 2015 5:42 PM - Bill Monroe: ok, one of four assignments down
    Apr 25, 2015 5:42 PM - dbvanhorn: 4x artwork reduced in camera
Apr 25, 2015 5:43 PM - dbvanhorn: Now I generate all my artwork in one click with 3D views and step files for the mech guys.
Apr 25, 2015 5:44 PM - dbvanhorn: So how do I "see" the gcode files on the SD to start a print?
Apr 25, 2015 5:44 PM - Bill Monroe: just open it with a text editor
    Apr 25, 2015 5:45 PM - dbvanhorn: ???
Apr 25, 2015 5:45 PM - Bill Monroe: on.. to start it, I dunno
Apr 25, 2015 5:45 PM - dbvanhorn: SD is mounted in the printer
Apr 25, 2015 5:45 PM - Bill Monroe: I'm not paying attention.. back to homework
    Apr 25, 2015 5:45 PM - jbigler1986: Google it. I don't recall the exact steps in repetier
    Apr 25, 2015 5:45 PM - dbvanhorn: ok
Apr 25, 2015 5:47 PM - insomniac_lemon: Should I play Return to Zork or Day of the Tentacle first?
    Apr 25, 2015 5:47 PM - insomniac_lemon: Or something else Lucas Arts?
    Apr 25, 2015 5:49 PM - Bill Monroe: 2 of four!
    Apr 25, 2015 5:50 PM - insomniac_lemon: Huh?
Apr 25, 2015 5:51 PM - Bill Monroe: 2 of four homework assignment done, accepted, and graded
Apr 25, 2015 5:51 PM - Bill Monroe: programming professors use automation to do everything
    Apr 25, 2015 5:52 PM - dbvanhorn: Well... You'd expect that.
Apr 25, 2015 5:53 PM - Bill Monroe: the guy is uber anal about format and style
Apr 25, 2015 5:53 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok, I may actually be printing from SD now. Warming up.
Apr 25, 2015 5:53 PM - Bill Monroe: I spend 80% of my time looking for hard tabs :)
Apr 25, 2015 5:54 PM - dbvanhorn: Style is important, but often overstressed. Still, I have seen some ASM code that makes me want to cry.
Apr 25, 2015 5:55 PM - dbvanhorn: Probably my biggest guiding principle in writing code is the "Lazy Teenager Model"
Apr 25, 2015 5:55 PM - dbvanhorn: I call a task frequently, and it tries to find any excuse not to do anything, but if it must, it does as little as possible and then exits.
Apr 25, 2015 5:56 PM - dbvanhorn: It's actually a cooperative multitasker with semaphores and buffers.
Apr 25, 2015 5:58 PM - dbvanhorn: Wondering what might be wrong with the PC driver that talks to the robo, why it would work fine for many weeks, then start crashing the machine.
Apr 25, 2015 5:58 PM - dbvanhorn: I'm not a windows driver guy, not a skill I've ever wanted to develop. They'd make me use it.
Apr 25, 2015 5:58 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Alright, so I got my Screwless Fan Shroud mounted and functional. When I get going on a print, it stops, saying, "Temp Fell too much during print!" That is due to the fan kicking on.
Apr 25, 2015 5:59 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Is there anyway to prevent this error?
    Apr 25, 2015 5:59 PM - dbvanhorn: Sounds like it's cooling plenty.
Apr 25, 2015 5:59 PM - dbvanhorn: Less voltage to the fan?
Apr 25, 2015 5:59 PM - WayUpNorthMN: I need to shut off this error, it tends to stop at the exact layer that my fan starts.
Apr 25, 2015 6:00 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Can I set less voltage through the IDE?
Apr 25, 2015 6:00 PM - dbvanhorn: The error may actually be useful, how well coupled is the thermistor to the nozzle temperature?
Apr 25, 2015 6:01 PM - dbvanhorn: I highly doubt it. Series diodes would drop the voltage but it's a pain.
Apr 25, 2015 6:01 PM - Bill Monroe: there should be no fan blowing on the nozzle.. maybe something is aimed wrong?
Apr 25, 2015 6:01 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Very well, I think the error is just a bit too sensitive, because it doesn't drop more than 1-2 degrees.
Apr 25, 2015 6:01 PM - dbvanhorn: That's what I mean, the error may be a real problem
Apr 25, 2015 6:01 PM - Bill Monroe: oh wait.. ADD ADD ADD must focus on homework....
Apr 25, 2015 6:02 PM - dbvanhorn: Maybe the threshold can be changed, but that might not be a good idea.
Apr 25, 2015 6:02 PM - WayUpNorthMN: I am going to try shutting off the error for now, and just print a lego or something
Apr 25, 2015 6:09 PM - dbvanhorn: Is there a size limit on the SD card for the robo?
Apr 25, 2015 6:09 PM - Bill Monroe: mine are both 8 gig
Apr 25, 2015 6:09 PM - Bill Monroe: even 256K is way plenty
Apr 25, 2015 6:11 PM - dbvanhorn: We hit that at work, one of our systems uses SD cards, and of course the cards get harder to buy in small sizes. The driver people had to be spanked.
Apr 25, 2015 6:17 PM - jbigler1986: Did you get it figured out dB?
Apr 25, 2015 6:21 PM - dbvanhorn: I think so.. Printing but of course all the tweaking that I had in MC is gone.
Apr 25, 2015 6:21 PM - dbvanhorn: I will have to rename my files since apparently somewhere in the chain only 8.3 file names are supported.
Apr 25, 2015 6:24 PM - dbvanhorn: I see how to save, then upload to the SD in the printer, handy if slow.
Apr 25, 2015 6:25 PM - dbvanhorn: This will take some getting used to.
Apr 25, 2015 6:26 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah but will fix a lot of your issues
    Apr 25, 2015 6:27 PM - dbvanhorn: I sure hope so.
Apr 25, 2015 6:39 PM - dbvanhorn: I did a test print, the bed heat shut off early on and the part came loose. Is that a setting in repetier?
Apr 25, 2015 6:41 PM - jbigler1986: It's whatever slicer you used to generate the gcode
    Apr 25, 2015 6:48 PM - dbvanhorn: slic3r
    Apr 25, 2015 6:51 PM - dbvanhorn: ah, I see now.
    Apr 25, 2015 6:52 PM - dbvanhorn: yikes.. kathmandu had 7.5 quake
Apr 25, 2015 6:53 PM - dbvanhorn: avalanche on everest, news says 18 dead and 30 injured just on everest.
Apr 25, 2015 6:54 PM - Bill Monroe: excellent reason to stay away from both of those plases
Apr 25, 2015 6:57 PM - dbvanhorn: Happy sitting here on the colorado plain breathing plutonium dust.
Apr 25, 2015 6:58 PM - dbvanhorn: Ok.. I sent two gcode files to the SD, took a while, but now nothing new shows up.
Apr 25, 2015 6:58 PM - dbvanhorn: I did a dismount and remount, still nothing new.
Apr 25, 2015 6:59 PM - dbvanhorn: used .gco extension
    Apr 25, 2015 7:05 PM - jbigler1986: hmmm
Apr 25, 2015 7:05 PM - jbigler1986: about to design a multiple spool holer for my desk
    Apr 25, 2015 7:05 PM - jbigler1986: holder*
Apr 25, 2015 7:06 PM - dbvanhorn: I'm using buckets from Home Depot. Their 2 gal bucket holds 3 spools with about 1 inch spare
Apr 25, 2015 7:06 PM - dbvanhorn: seals tight, but not terribly convenient
Apr 25, 2015 7:08 PM - Bill Monroe: all the riles on myu SD drive have .gcode
    Apr 25, 2015 7:08 PM - Bill Monroe: files
    Apr 25, 2015 7:08 PM - jbigler1986: its not to store them
Apr 25, 2015 7:09 PM - Bill Monroe: I store mine in ziplocks with dessicant
Apr 25, 2015 7:09 PM - dbvanhorn: I see. I only keep the one out at a time, whatever I'm printing with.
Apr 25, 2015 7:10 PM - jbigler1986: i do the same Bill. then i put the bags in a tub
Apr 25, 2015 7:10 PM - dbvanhorn: Cat chews holes in bags, so far hasn't managed with buckets. Calcium chloride (damp rid) dessicant in bud vases down the middle of the spools.
Apr 25, 2015 7:10 PM - Bill Monroe: kill the cats
    Apr 25, 2015 7:10 PM - dbvanhorn: :(
    Apr 25, 2015 7:10 PM - jbigler1986: yeah i would be pissed

Apr 25, 2015 7:13 PM - Bill Monroe: when I married 2.0, I promised her should could kep the cats she had, if she never got any more... ever
Apr 25, 2015 7:13 PM - Bill Monroe: I keep leaving the gate open but they wont leave :)
Apr 25, 2015 7:17 PM - jbigler1986: can i move the modify menu to the toolbar
Apr 25, 2015 7:29 PM - Mike Glass: does anybody know where the robo wiring diagram might be found?
Apr 25, 2015 7:31 PM - dbvanhorn: Looks like it used to be on the forum. Link broken now
Apr 25, 2015 7:33 PM - Bill Monroe: they ust refer you to a standard reprap diagram
Apr 25, 2015 7:43 PM - jbigler1986: MK had an image of it
Apr 25, 2015 7:43 PM - Bill Monroe: MG search for RAMPS 1.4
Apr 25, 2015 7:43 PM - jbigler1986: let me see if i can find it
    Apr 25, 2015 7:45 PM - jbigler1986: http://i.imgur.com/J3UXUYs.gif
    Apr 25, 2015 7:47 PM - jbigler1986: good enough?
Apr 25, 2015 7:49 PM - Mike Glass: yep thanks, finishing this sucka up
Apr 25, 2015 8:07 PM - WayUpNorthMN: So how would I set the fan to come on after 3 layers?
Apr 25, 2015 8:07 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Is there a setting in cura somewhere?
Apr 25, 2015 8:12 PM - jbigler1986: not sure about cura. let me look
Apr 25, 2015 8:13 PM - dbvanhorn: :( Repetier temperature control is making me crazy(er) I set the extruder to 220 and bed to 80. After slicing, the print starts, but only after trying to set the extruder to 227 and bed to 85 (overtemp on both).. Rep then thinks it's printing at crazy speed, but nothing moves. I re-adjust the temps, same thing happens again.
Apr 25, 2015 8:14 PM - dbvanhorn: Where am I supposed to be able to control print temp?
Apr 25, 2015 8:15 PM - dbvanhorn: I have max temps of 224 and 84 plugged into the printer settings, which it is apparently ignoring.
Apr 25, 2015 8:16 PM - Mike Glass: turn auto cooling off then
    Apr 25, 2015 8:17 PM - dbvanhorn: Auto cooling?
Apr 25, 2015 8:17 PM - Mike Glass: 85 is to hot for the bed, dont go over 80
Apr 25, 2015 8:18 PM - dbvanhorn: Looking at Gcode, in the first few lines, it's setting 227 and 85.
    Apr 25, 2015 8:18 PM - dbvanhorn: Yea, I know.. I set up 80 and 220.
Apr 25, 2015 8:19 PM - dbvanhorn: manually edited Gcode to 80/220, see what happens now.
Apr 25, 2015 8:20 PM - dbvanhorn: At the bottom of the screen it says extruder 150/227 and bed 84.4/80
Apr 25, 2015 8:21 PM - jbigler1986: have you edited the firmware to have the bed go hotter? also does your bed have ribbon cable?
Apr 25, 2015 8:22 PM - dbvanhorn: No and ribbon cable
    Apr 25, 2015 8:22 PM - jbigler1986: edit your firmware
    Apr 25, 2015 8:22 PM - dbvanhorn: NOW the bottom says 227/220 and 81/80
    Apr 25, 2015 8:23 PM - jbigler1986: set it like 100 degrees Celsius
Apr 25, 2015 8:23 PM - dbvanhorn: I don't want to go that hot. There's some setting somewhere that's overriding what I put into the filament settings AND the max temperature settings.
Apr 25, 2015 8:23 PM - jbigler1986: you don't have to go that hot. it will allow you to go to 80/85 without tripping the firmware
Apr 25, 2015 8:24 PM - jbigler1986: with ribbon cable you can go all the way up to 110 degrees celsius
Apr 25, 2015 8:30 PM - dbvanhorn: Problem is the temperatures that it's putting in the gcode are not what I set up in the settings.
    Apr 25, 2015 8:42 PM - jbigler1986: i will leave you with this http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jbigler1986
Apr 25, 2015 8:42 PM - jbigler1986: someone else is going to have to help you tonight
    Apr 25, 2015 8:45 PM - dbvanhorn: Thanks.

Apr 26, 2015 4:46 AM - jbigler1986: Morning. What a failure I had overnight due to a tangle in my spool
Apr 26, 2015 4:47 AM - Bill Monroe: wow.. is she OK?
    Apr 26, 2015 4:47 AM - Bill Monroe: :)
Apr 26, 2015 5:24 AM - Bill Monroe: geeetech products are lower than crap
Apr 26, 2015 6:30 AM - jbigler1986: Bent hex heat break, broke 3 wires. Resolder everything and put the e3d back on. She is good to go now
    Apr 26, 2015 6:30 AM - Bill Monroe: <hi-5>
Apr 26, 2015 6:32 AM - jbigler1986: 1 thermistor wire, 1 extruder wire (not sure how it pulled that off) and 1 hotend fan wire
Apr 26, 2015 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: if you're gunna do it, do it large
Apr 26, 2015 6:37 AM - Mike Glass: WTF JB, what are doing over there..lol
Apr 26, 2015 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: Sunday is 3D demo derby Day
Apr 26, 2015 8:45 AM - Printed Solid: turns out my bearings y-axis bearings were fine. My issue was that the two idlers and the drive pulley on the y were misaligned vertically so the belt was binding on the bottom of the drive pulley.
Apr 26, 2015 8:45 AM - Printed Solid: No idea how I made it through so many prints with it like that.
Apr 26, 2015 8:47 AM - Mike Glass: did you see any signs of wear
Apr 26, 2015 8:50 AM - Printed Solid: oh yeah.
Apr 26, 2015 8:51 AM - Printed Solid: I actually think that may be a source of banding/ribbing on my printer. Hoping to get much better print quality now.
Apr 26, 2015 8:58 AM - Mike Glass: was it loose or just QC problem
Apr 26, 2015 8:59 AM - jbigler1986: That sucks Matt. I had an awesome failure overnight
Apr 26, 2015 9:00 AM - Printed Solid: QC. It was super tight.
    Apr 26, 2015 9:00 AM - Printed Solid: I saw that JB.
Apr 26, 2015 9:01 AM - Printed Solid: I had a failure yesterday... Went chasing after the mailtruck like a mad dog because they skipped our package pickup.
Apr 26, 2015 9:01 AM - Printed Solid: Something popped in my calf muscle.
Apr 26, 2015 9:01 AM - jbigler1986: MG I figured the tangled spool might work itself out or it would just break the filament mid print. Didn't think it would cause a fucking war zone.
    Apr 26, 2015 9:02 AM - jbigler1986: Hopefully nothing serious Matt
Apr 26, 2015 9:02 AM - jbigler1986: It also knocked of my back part fan and snapped the fan shroud in half
Apr 26, 2015 9:02 AM - Mike Glass: your luck it didnt snap the roll off the top and fall and break the bed.
Apr 26, 2015 9:02 AM - Printed Solid: they told me I should get an MRI, but it feels a lot better, so I think it is just a strain.
Apr 26, 2015 9:03 AM - Printed Solid: ya, I think I'm going to start discouraging people from that top mount setup. mechanically, it is nice, but when it fails...
Apr 26, 2015 9:03 AM - jbigler1986: The spool holder was all bent and shit. It was close to breaking. I was actually printing a new spool holder for my desk to move it off of the case
Apr 26, 2015 9:03 AM - Printed Solid: I like the holder that comes with the robo now.
Apr 26, 2015 9:03 AM - Printed Solid: the original acrylic one they had on the side was awful.
    Apr 26, 2015 9:04 AM - Mike Glass: I dont like it
    Apr 26, 2015 9:04 AM - jbigler1986: I'm not a fan either. I
Apr 26, 2015 9:04 AM - jbigler1986: Spool holder was my first print
Apr 26, 2015 9:04 AM - Mike Glass: mine too:)
Apr 26, 2015 9:04 AM - Printed Solid: why don't you like it?
Apr 26, 2015 9:05 AM - Mike Glass: tangles alot easier
    Apr 26, 2015 9:05 AM - jbigler1986: I don't like the way it looks. Plus I don't like the way it feeds.
Apr 26, 2015 9:06 AM - Mike Glass: tends to break brittle filament more
    Apr 26, 2015 9:06 AM - Printed Solid: ok. I wouldn't know about that.
Apr 26, 2015 9:07 AM - jbigler1986: I will take a picture of how much it bent the hex heat break when I get back home. I was like Holy shit. Idk how more wires didn't break
Apr 26, 2015 9:08 AM - Printed Solid: you should post. I'd like to see it.
Apr 26, 2015 9:08 AM - Mike Glass: must of drug it the top and then slammed it down.
Apr 26, 2015 9:09 AM - jbigler1986: It pulled one of the extruder wires from the connector itself
    Apr 26, 2015 9:09 AM - jbigler1986: Good thing I had 2 extra connectors from my steppers
Apr 26, 2015 9:14 AM - Mike Glass: getting ready to hookup the cnc, got all my drivers installed on the board.
Apr 26, 2015 9:14 AM - Mike Glass: I do have to find a 10k ohm resistor to trick the thermistor pins
Apr 26, 2015 9:43 AM - jbigler1986: Does the glass bead size matter?
    Apr 26, 2015 9:44 AM - jbigler1986: Oh just a resistor. Nevermind
Apr 26, 2015 10:06 AM - jbigler1986: Ready for the awesome bent hex
    Apr 26, 2015 10:07 AM - jbigler1986: http://imgur.com/1X03nCc
    Apr 26, 2015 10:13 AM - donhuevo: ouch
    Apr 26, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Glass: doh
    Apr 26, 2015 10:16 AM - jbigler1986: Yeah. Can't believe it didn't break more stuff
    Apr 26, 2015 12:06 PM - TechSupportGo: hello
    Apr 26, 2015 12:06 PM - jbigler1986: Hi
Apr 26, 2015 12:07 PM - TechSupportGo: MG, remember when my spool got tangled and it lifted my robo in the air and dropped it ?!?!
Apr 26, 2015 12:08 PM - TechSupportGo: My spools are on a cross bar about 3 feet over my robo
Apr 26, 2015 12:09 PM - Mike Glass: how many rolls does everyone have now
    Apr 26, 2015 12:10 PM - TechSupportGo: 12 with 6 unopened
    Apr 26, 2015 12:10 PM - Mike Glass: I have 16 now..geez
Apr 26, 2015 12:18 PM - Mike Glass: what else you up to Tech
    Apr 26, 2015 12:25 PM - jbigler1986: I lost count. Probably close to 20
Apr 26, 2015 12:53 PM - TechSupportGo: I recorded video today for about an hour explaining 3d printing now I am hacking my xbox live profile :)
    Apr 26, 2015 1:32 PM - jbigler1986: Lol. Awesome
Apr 26, 2015 1:34 PM - bamhm182: I feel like I need to buy more filament. Haha. I probably have around 3.75 kg with 4 spools coming in on Wednesday. I'll have Blue, red, orange, a little green, VERY little glow in the dark, and a ton of black at my disposal
Apr 26, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: It's gets to be an addiction. I keep buying more and more
Apr 26, 2015 1:38 PM - bamhm182: Haha, I can see how that makes sense
    Apr 26, 2015 1:38 PM - bamhm182: I went a bit nuts this weekend
Apr 26, 2015 1:38 PM - jbigler1986: I have exactly 20 spools right now. I have a few more on the way too. Although I'm about to send 3 of these to Mike Kelly because I hate ABS
Apr 26, 2015 1:39 PM - bamhm182: The 4 spools was the beginning of the events
Apr 26, 2015 1:40 PM - bamhm182: Some people at work had some projects they were going to pay me for, and I didn't have enough black, so I meant to order a spool of PLA. Accidentally ordered ABS, so now I have 1 spool of black ABS.
Apr 26, 2015 1:41 PM - bamhm182: I designed a "shotgun ring" a while back. Just a small wearable ring that allows you to easily pop a hole in a beer can to shotgun it. (Hey, I'm 22, what can you expect? :p) I printed that with it and it turned out well, but I haven't printed anything else with it
Apr 26, 2015 1:42 PM - bamhm182: After the 4 spools I went "Hey, you know what would be really neat? A 3D Scanner!" Went out to gamestop and bought a Kinect, then got a Kinect > Power/USB cable on Amazon.
Apr 26, 2015 1:43 PM - bamhm182: After that I was looking up 3D scanning videos. Some of them printed in multiple colors and I went "Oh yeah! The E3D Cyclops!" and ended up caving and buying everything I should need to upgrade to that
Apr 26, 2015 1:44 PM - bamhm182: Aaaaand here I am roughly $450 later. And I was doing so good at not spending a lot of money this pay period. Haha
Apr 26, 2015 1:47 PM - jbigler1986: Happens. Welcome to the 3d printer world. Keep spending more and more on it. It's a fun hobby though
Apr 26, 2015 1:49 PM - insomniac_lemon: Anybody have a link to a guide on dual extruders, or is it as easy as putting the wires on the same rails as the existing extruder?
    Apr 26, 2015 1:50 PM - bamhm182: What do you have now?
    Apr 26, 2015 1:50 PM - bamhm182: Direct Drive or Bowden?
Apr 26, 2015 1:50 PM - jbigler1986: Definitely way more involved as far as getting it set up.
    Apr 26, 2015 1:51 PM - insomniac_lemon: Stock. Wanting to use 2 ezstruders w/ bowden for a Cyclops setup
Apr 26, 2015 1:51 PM - insomniac_lemon: Everything prepared, just not sure on that wiring before I start
Apr 26, 2015 1:51 PM - bamhm182: And yeah, it is a pretty fun hobby. I've started figuring out how to manipulate other peoples models. Pretty proud of the orc that I taught to read by moving his arms and giving him a book. Haha
Apr 26, 2015 1:52 PM - bamhm182: That's exactly what I'm doing right now, but I'm not planning on using the ezstruders
Apr 26, 2015 1:53 PM - bamhm182: The main reason for that is that Mike recommended against them in the past after ordering them and I've learned to trust his judgement
    Apr 26, 2015 1:53 PM - insomniac_lemon: :(
Apr 26, 2015 1:54 PM - bamhm182: Not to say that he's always right or that the ezstruder is bad, but just that his opinion persuaded me to go the route of a custom setup
Apr 26, 2015 1:54 PM - jbigler1986: Be ready for a ton of headaches setting it up. Just prepare yourself is all I'm saying
Apr 26, 2015 1:54 PM - insomniac_lemon: I've already done everything with 2.... have them on a mounting plate waiting to be hooked up. Luckily my mount is non-damaging.
    Apr 26, 2015 1:54 PM - bamhm182: http://community.robo3d.com/index.p...m-stock-to-cyclops-care-to-sanity-check.5275/
Apr 26, 2015 1:55 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, the ezstruders waiting to be hooked up, the mount plate is secure, uglyish but working.
Apr 26, 2015 1:55 PM - bamhm182: I just made a post asking people to look over what I've got, and I plan on documenting the upgrade, so maybe I can help in that way
Apr 26, 2015 1:55 PM - insomniac_lemon: bamhm182: what problems exactly did Mike have with ezstruders?
Apr 26, 2015 1:56 PM - bamhm182: I don't remember I stumbled across it earlier while looking into upgrading to cyclops. I'll see if I can find it again
Apr 26, 2015 1:58 PM - bamhm182: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/ezstruder-upgrade.2511/ In this thread he says he likes the ezstruder for swapping filaments
Apr 26, 2015 1:58 PM - bamhm182: I came across this youtube video earlier that might give you some ideas
Apr 26, 2015 2:00 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well.... I've actually got my setup basically done just not sure how to wire
    Apr 26, 2015 2:02 PM - bamhm182: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/dual-bowden-cold-section-drive.4684/
    Apr 26, 2015 2:02 PM - bamhm182: Oh, alright.
Apr 26, 2015 2:03 PM - bamhm182: I am not really sure on that either, but I want to say you'd have to have one motor going to a set of pins for the current motor, and the second motor would have to go to different pins, that way they'd be controlled separately, but I'm still looking into exactly how that needs to be done

Apr 26, 2015 2:04 PM - bamhm182: I'm also fairly certain some modification to the firmware will need to take place, but exactly what modification, I'm not sure
Apr 26, 2015 2:06 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, I'm pretty sure on that I just need to flash the Cyclops firmware Mike provided on the wiki page he made
    Apr 26, 2015 2:06 PM - insomniac_lemon: http://wiki.e3d-online.com/wiki/Cyclops/Chimera_on_RoBo3D#Firmware
    Apr 26, 2015 2:10 PM - bamhm182: Alright, awesome! Thanks
    Apr 26, 2015 2:13 PM - bamhm182:
Apr 26, 2015 2:13 PM - bamhm182: Came across this video on how to assemble the RoBo 3D arduino
Apr 26, 2015 2:14 PM - bamhm182: They start talking about thermistors and the steppers and all that jazz at around 6:10
Apr 26, 2015 2:18 PM - bamhm182: Alright, so at 8:10, you will notice he plugs in the extruder to E0 and there is an E1 slot right next to it. Makes sense to me that that is where you would plug in the second stepper motor
Apr 26, 2015 2:19 PM - insomniac_lemon: Ah, ok. I was thinking it would be something like that.
Apr 26, 2015 2:21 PM - bamhm182: Doesn't seem TOO difficult so far. Mount everything, plug the motors in E0/E1, upload the new firmware, and then let the headaches of things not working the way they should until they're calibrated begin!
Apr 26, 2015 2:35 PM - insomniac_lemon: Mike didn't say what he disliked in that post you linked. Overheating, maybe?
Apr 26, 2015 2:35 PM - jbigler1986: Getting it installed is the easy part. Getting it calibrated correctly is a whole different ball game
Apr 26, 2015 2:36 PM - jbigler1986: Pretty sure he had a lot of slipping with the ezstruder
Apr 26, 2015 2:38 PM - insomniac_lemon: So I'm assuming he just switched back to Greg's Wade extruders?
Apr 26, 2015 2:38 PM - insomniac_lemon: Are the motors I got from SeemeeCNC still good, though?
    Apr 26, 2015 2:39 PM - insomniac_lemon: As in, powerful enough
    Apr 26, 2015 2:39 PM - bamhm182: Link?
Apr 26, 2015 2:39 PM - insomniac_lemon: The ones optionally sold with ezstruders
    Apr 26, 2015 2:40 PM - bamhm182: I'm assuming they probably are
    Apr 26, 2015 2:40 PM - bamhm182: Do they have a sticker on them?
Apr 26, 2015 2:41 PM - bamhm182: Also, since you already bought the ezstruders, I'd still give them a go. Maybe they'll work fine for you. Might as well find out
Apr 26, 2015 2:41 PM - bamhm182: Then if they don't, you can always switch to a different design later
Apr 26, 2015 2:42 PM - insomniac_lemon: One of them does, the newer one. Automation Technology, Inc. KL17H248-15-4A
    Apr 26, 2015 2:43 PM - insomniac_lemon: Ok, Nema 17s

Apr 26, 2015 2:44 PM - bamhm182: These are the motors that the Robo 3D comes with
Apr 26, 2015 2:44 PM - bamhm182: They've got 38oz-in torque, yours have 76oz-in torque, so they should be more than fine
    Apr 26, 2015 2:45 PM - insomniac_lemon: That says $6 on Amazon.... I paid $30+ :(
    Apr 26, 2015 2:45 PM - insomniac_lemon: Unless it's shipping stuff
    Apr 26, 2015 2:46 PM - bamhm182: Dang
    Apr 26, 2015 2:52 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, life lessons I guess
    Apr 26, 2015 3:05 PM - bamhm182: Yup
Apr 26, 2015 3:05 PM - bamhm182: This whole hobby is full of those
Apr 26, 2015 3:08 PM - Shank: hey, if any of you have a moment can you look at Nick Wrights forum under toubleshooting. thanks
    Apr 26, 2015 3:11 PM - bamhm182: Not sure I can help too much, but I'll see
Apr 26, 2015 3:19 PM - jbigler1986: I will look at it shank then I will come back here
Apr 26, 2015 3:22 PM - jbigler1986: Few things. Make sure your ramps fan is working. Usually when a print fails at that height it's due to it overheating and missing steps
Apr 26, 2015 3:23 PM - jbigler1986: Next is about the holes you see on the top of the part. That is called pillowing. Just add a few more layers to the top layer and that will be solved
Apr 26, 2015 3:23 PM - jbigler1986: Might have to add a few layers to the top/bottom depending on what slicer you are using
Apr 26, 2015 3:33 PM - bamhm182: I believe I may have some solutions to his problems. I posted them in the thread
    Apr 26, 2015 4:06 PM - WayUpNorthMN: Hello hello!
    Apr 26, 2015 4:08 PM - bamhm182: Hey, how's it going?
Apr 26, 2015 4:14 PM - Mike Glass: what up peeps
Apr 26, 2015 4:16 PM - bamhm182: Not a whole lot, just researching on upgrading to the cyclops
Apr 26, 2015 4:19 PM - Mike Glass: yea I saw your thread,
    Apr 26, 2015 4:19 PM - bamhm182: Thoughts?
Apr 26, 2015 4:21 PM - Mike Glass: Mike kelly likes it cyclops, its the route I would go if I was interested in dual color
Apr 26, 2015 4:23 PM - bamhm182: Yeah, it looks like a good option. I feel like I'm going to have quite a bit of work ahead of me, but luckily, Mike laid the groundwork
Apr 26, 2015 4:25 PM - Mike Glass: I think you have to go to bowden with that though, he was running into some extruder issues.
Apr 26, 2015 4:26 PM - Mike Glass: he ordered a new bondtech extruder to see if that mitigate the issue
Apr 26, 2015 4:27 PM - bamhm182: Yeah, I was planning on swapping to bowden. I'll have to see if I can find out what issues he was running into
Apr 26, 2015 4:28 PM - bamhm182: I was just planning on using the stepper motor already on printer, as well as a second just like it and modifying something from thingiverse so it would mount to my pegboard
Apr 26, 2015 4:28 PM - Mike Glass: For me if I want to get fancy, I will just build my own bigger printer. there is not enough change to modify the stock robo at this point.
    Apr 26, 2015 4:29 PM - bamhm182: Fair enough
Apr 26, 2015 4:29 PM - bamhm182: I haven't really run into too many issues with the build volume
Apr 26, 2015 4:30 PM - bamhm182: I wanted to print something that ended up being 9 inches tall, had to print it in two parts since the fan shroud I have on there now knocks a few inches off the z-axis
Apr 26, 2015 4:31 PM - Mike Glass: I want to build one that is inclosed.
Apr 26, 2015 4:31 PM - Mike Glass: yea, I had that issue with mine, Mike made a new fan holders for the hex and now it goes to the top
Apr 26, 2015 4:32 PM - jbigler1986: He made them for the E3dv6 too if you happen to have thst
    Apr 26, 2015 4:32 PM - jbigler1986: Sup MG
Apr 26, 2015 4:33 PM - Mike Glass: Hey JBBBBB
Apr 26, 2015 4:33 PM - bamhm182: I currently have the hex. I've been using the shroud made by Galaxius
Apr 26, 2015 4:34 PM - Mike Glass: Thats what we used, works awesome, but build volume sucks
Apr 26, 2015 4:34 PM - Mike Glass: specially if you used print one at a time feature.
Apr 26, 2015 4:34 PM - bamhm182: I need to do some work with the fan. Like an idiot, I accidentally dropped a screwdriver in the parts fan while it was spinning and snapped off a blade
Apr 26, 2015 4:34 PM - jbigler1986: Damn this spool holder is taking forever. Gonna need to design a guide though because I don't want a sharp angle going into the case. Feel like it might be prone to breaking the filament
Apr 26, 2015 4:34 PM - insomniac_lemon: Mike G. I think for bigger volume stuff I'm eventually going to get a laser cutter to make a Mega Prusa i3 with the parts from the Robo I'm replacing
Apr 26, 2015 4:34 PM - bamhm182: I bought a replacement on Amazon, so I'm going to have to toss that in
Apr 26, 2015 4:35 PM - insomniac_lemon: Laser cutter is just needed for the Z plate which is sorta like a frame
Apr 26, 2015 4:35 PM - Mike Glass: Lemon, just buy new parts its cheap enought and keep the robo, then you will have 2:)
Apr 26, 2015 4:35 PM - bamhm182: What spool holder are you printing?
Apr 26, 2015 4:36 PM - bamhm182: 2 printers would be sweet. Have one to fix the other one, and when they're both working, think of the projects you could quickly knock out!
Apr 26, 2015 4:36 PM - insomniac_lemon: Mike G. I am..... I'm installing the Cyclops so some stock parts I will have spare
    Apr 26, 2015 4:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: Also, this is what I'm talking about: http://3dprint.com/50680/enormous-prusa-3d-printer/
    Apr 26, 2015 4:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: Almost 16inch build volume on every dimension
Apr 26, 2015 4:37 PM - jbigler1986: I designed it myself. It's going to attach to my desk behind my robo. I will take a picture in a few
Apr 26, 2015 4:37 PM - Mike Glass: Lemon, my cnc will cut plexi. will be testing that real soon, just calibrated my stepper drivers and tested. now just have to put a fan on the enclosure.
Apr 26, 2015 4:38 PM - jbigler1986: As soon as that's done Mike you will be using it for a bigger better one
Apr 26, 2015 4:38 PM - insomniac_lemon: Yeah, I wish I had a CNC. Especially if it had a laser cutter right on it
Apr 26, 2015 4:39 PM - Mike Glass: I will b adding a laser next to it. Im into it under $450 .
Apr 26, 2015 4:40 PM - insomniac_lemon: But then again, I want EVERYTHING. CNC, Laser cutter, SLA, SLS, etc.
Apr 26, 2015 4:40 PM - Mike Glass: yep this is a multitool, it really turned out nice.
Apr 26, 2015 4:40 PM - bamhm182: That Mega Prusa is pretty awesome!
Apr 26, 2015 4:40 PM - Mike Glass: I still like the Spider V2 the best
Apr 26, 2015 4:40 PM - bamhm182: Fair enough, I made one that attaches to my pegboard. Still haven't gotten around to printing it out
Apr 26, 2015 4:41 PM - Mike Glass: thought the spider is around $2k to build
Apr 26, 2015 4:41 PM - bamhm182: Mike, is your CNC DIY or off the shelf?
    Apr 26, 2015 4:41 PM - Mike Glass: DIY
Apr 26, 2015 4:42 PM - Mike Glass: over 100 hours to print the parts.
Apr 26, 2015 4:42 PM - jbigler1986: He bought it off the shelf than just printed a bunch of parts to make it look like DIY. :p
Apr 26, 2015 4:43 PM - bamhm182: Nice, I was toying around with the idea of building a CNC machine the other night while I was supposed to be hanging out with some girls my friend bought to the bar. Whoops! :p
    Apr 26, 2015 4:43 PM - bamhm182: Have any pictures handy?
    Apr 26, 2015 4:43 PM - jbigler1986: Just giving you a hard time Mike
Apr 26, 2015 4:43 PM - insomniac_lemon: All-in-all though, next hardware I need is probably a filament extruder if a decent one comes out. Been saving all failed stuff and also PETE plastic in hopes of being able to reuse it.
Apr 26, 2015 4:44 PM - Mike Glass: not fully assembled, I just have the parts I printed
Apr 26, 2015 4:44 PM - Mike Glass: I will be posting it tonight after I finish, I just have a fan to install for the casing.
Apr 26, 2015 4:44 PM - Mike Glass: and install my computer power supply.
Apr 26, 2015 4:45 PM - bamhm182: The Spider V2 does look pretty neat. I forget the name of them, but I've always thought that type of FDM printer looked more futuristic, and since this is "future technology," I like that
    Apr 26, 2015 4:45 PM - bamhm182: Nice! Looking forward to it
Apr 26, 2015 4:46 PM - Mike Glass: Yea Erik has some cool ideas, is herculien was top untill he came out with the spider

Apr 26, 2015 4:47 PM - Mike Glass: you should check out the posts: "robo on steroids"
Apr 26, 2015 4:48 PM - Mike Glass: I was messing around to get ready for programming the cnc, and did some plots.
Apr 26, 2015 4:52 PM - insomniac_lemon: bamhm182: you talking about the Spiderbot Delta V2.0 or something else?
    Apr 26, 2015 4:52 PM - jbigler1986: http://imgur.com/G8UQm2d
    Apr 26, 2015 4:55 PM - bamhm182: The Spiderbot Delta v2
Apr 26, 2015 4:55 PM - bamhm182: that's the word I was trying to think of, Delta. Those printers look cool
Apr 26, 2015 4:56 PM - insomniac_lemon: I think the word you were thinking of after that was "yes" :p
Apr 26, 2015 4:57 PM - bamhm182: So what's the point of a 0.8mm nozzle, just that it prints much faster? How much do you feel like it takes away from the aesthetic quality of the print?
Apr 26, 2015 4:58 PM - jbigler1986: Not a ton. It makes parts very strong
    Apr 26, 2015 4:58 PM - jbigler1986: I have been using .6 nozzle a lot lately
Apr 26, 2015 5:00 PM - bamhm182: Man, that plotter is awesome, Mike!
Apr 26, 2015 5:01 PM - bamhm182: I'm even more excited to print out Mike Kelly's modular carriage. I'm definitely going to have a go at creating a plate for it that can house a pen
Apr 26, 2015 5:02 PM - bamhm182: Well, considering how much I just spent on the Cyclops, a .8mm volcano is a bit out of the question right now since they can't be used together. :/
    Apr 26, 2015 5:03 PM - jbigler1986: .8 can be used on hexagon or e3dv6
Apr 26, 2015 5:03 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, all you'd have to do is convert to a Chimera, using 1-2 volcano heads in the process
    Apr 26, 2015 5:03 PM - jbigler1986: Just can't go bigger than that
Apr 26, 2015 5:03 PM - insomniac_lemon: Pretty sure Chimeras use regular v6 heads, too
    Apr 26, 2015 5:04 PM - bamhm182: I didn't buy the legends pack though
Apr 26, 2015 5:04 PM - bamhm182: I might have if Printed Solid had them available, but he just has the Cyclops in stock right now and only offers them separate
Apr 26, 2015 5:04 PM - Mike Glass: I love the .8 nozzle, specially for vases.
Apr 26, 2015 5:05 PM - jbigler1986: You should have asked if he had what you wanted. He has lots of stuff that isn't on his site yet
Apr 26, 2015 5:05 PM - Mike Glass: it eats up filament fast though..lol
    Apr 26, 2015 5:06 PM - jbigler1986: It does indeed mike
Apr 26, 2015 5:06 PM - bamhm182: What I guess I could do is hold onto the hexagon and toss a volcano on there, then when I want single or dual color, I can use the cyclops. If I want 0.8mm, I can swap it out for the hexagon
    Apr 26, 2015 5:07 PM - jbigler1986: You don't need volcano for .8
Apr 26, 2015 5:08 PM - insomniac_lemon: bamhm182: Did you get what I'm saying? Cyclops head is special, Chimera ISN'T. Maybe the heat break is, but you already have 2 of those.
Apr 26, 2015 5:09 PM - insomniac_lemon: So if you have a Cyclops, get 1 v6 and 1 volcano, BAM you can convert to a Chimera
Apr 26, 2015 5:09 PM - insomniac_lemon: Because they both use the same heatsink and heat breaks.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:10 PM - bamhm182: Oh, okay, good to know
Apr 26, 2015 5:11 PM - insomniac_lemon: I even made a thread on that how Cyclops is the smarter choice because they don't sell individual Cyclops heads but they do offer v6s which would allow you to convert to a Chimera.
Apr 26, 2015 5:12 PM - bamhm182: So what if you bought two Volcanos? Could you get those to work together to make some sort of super cyclops?
    Apr 26, 2015 5:12 PM - bamhm182: *chimera
Apr 26, 2015 5:12 PM - bamhm182: I need to look into the Chimera, v6, and Volcano a bit better
    Apr 26, 2015 5:12 PM - insomniac_lemon: Indeed.
Apr 26, 2015 5:13 PM - bamhm182: Also, jbigler, nice spool holder. Does the part that's actually holding the spool just rest on there or is it attached somehow?
Apr 26, 2015 5:14 PM - insomniac_lemon: A bit overkill especially on the R1, but with a bigger printer, a Mega Chimera is a good choice over just 1 volcano.
Apr 26, 2015 5:14 PM - bamhm182: Oh wait, looking at it closer, it looks like it slides on from the front, right?
    Apr 26, 2015 5:14 PM - insomniac_lemon: since 1 volcano makes you lose the z-height anyways
    Apr 26, 2015 5:14 PM - bamhm182: Okay, good to know
Apr 26, 2015 5:15 PM - insomniac_lemon: http://3dprint.com/59722/filafab-filament-extruder/ $2K prices on a filament extruder makes me want to punch someone in the face
Apr 26, 2015 5:15 PM - Mike Glass: how does volcano make you loose height?
Apr 26, 2015 5:16 PM - bamhm182: Who would even think about paying that?
Apr 26, 2015 5:16 PM - insomniac_lemon: Looks like you might get something affordable in the kickstarter, but if that's a planned price makes me not want to support them
Apr 26, 2015 5:16 PM - insomniac_lemon: Mike G. because the melt zone is taller. I guess it's not really that much, but still
Apr 26, 2015 5:17 PM - Mike Glass: There was another one like that but it was around $600 that was on kickstarter
Apr 26, 2015 5:17 PM - Mike Glass: I thought it was just a block and super heater
Apr 26, 2015 5:17 PM - bamhm182: I've been using Hatchbox on Amazon a LOT. $20-$25 for 1 kg. They seem to be good enough. It would take 100 kg to begin making your money back, and that's not even considering the cost of the pellets, electricity, etc
Apr 26, 2015 5:17 PM - Mike Glass: with bigger ends
Apr 26, 2015 5:18 PM - Mike Glass: I use hatchbox as well, I like it, but really like the JustPLA brand as well, stuff does not warp and is inexspensive and have some cool colors.
Apr 26, 2015 5:19 PM - insomniac_lemon: bamhm182: I LOVE Hatchbox. The metal spool holder I got was from them, too. But all their stuff is sold by "fire sale merchant" and they have no site so I assume they went out of business :(
Apr 26, 2015 5:20 PM - Mike Glass: Solutech is another great product.
Apr 26, 2015 5:20 PM - insomniac_lemon: Spools of plastic are like x10 the cost of pellets, though
Apr 26, 2015 5:21 PM - insomniac_lemon: So, as long as you had a filament extruder that could ACCURATELY work, you could get most filament super cheap, plus reuse.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:21 PM - bamhm182: I guess so, but still, no way i'd buy a $2000 extruder
Apr 26, 2015 5:21 PM - insomniac_lemon: But no thanks on the price gauging. It's an accessory and shouldn't cost way more than the printer
Apr 26, 2015 5:22 PM - Mike Glass: I can see reusing as good but can you really get any color readily availible with pellets?
    Apr 26, 2015 5:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: Yeah, same here.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: Mike G. you can mix them, too.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: Or dye them yourself
Apr 26, 2015 5:22 PM - Mike Glass: If it was proven to last a lifetime then maybe, but no effin way.
Apr 26, 2015 5:23 PM - insomniac_lemon: I'd say I might pay $1.5k AT MOST for a FULL PACKAGE extruder..... as in winder + grinder, and accurate
Apr 26, 2015 5:23 PM - bamhm182: I'm looking into JustPLA and I find it funny that they also sell ABS
Apr 26, 2015 5:23 PM - Mike Glass: I would like to just use the plastic what we recycle, I have been saving lids for a few years now..lol
Apr 26, 2015 5:24 PM - Mike Glass: well that called JustABS ..
Apr 26, 2015 5:24 PM - insomniac_lemon: But I've seen (Filabot was it?) selling a MANUAL parts grinder for $800.....
Apr 26, 2015 5:24 PM - Mike Glass: I thought it was funny too
Apr 26, 2015 5:24 PM - bamhm182: I thought JustPLA was the name of a company who sold PLA and ABS
Apr 26, 2015 5:26 PM - bamhm182: I still think that I like my idea to toss a Volcano into the hexagon. Less work to swap out the hotends and I could have both readily available
Apr 26, 2015 5:26 PM - Mike Glass: Yea but the heatbreak wont fit
Apr 26, 2015 5:27 PM - bamhm182: Oh, really? I thought someone just said it will. Nevermind than
Apr 26, 2015 5:28 PM - bamhm182: Maybe I'll eventually buy a v6 and toss the Volcano in that. Same idea as far as the rest is concerned though
Apr 26, 2015 5:28 PM - insomniac_lemon: I thought I heard it too but that might have just been v6 nozzles.....
Apr 26, 2015 5:28 PM - Mike Glass: at least what i was told it wont
    Apr 26, 2015 5:28 PM - jbigler1986: Heat break won't fit hexagon but it will e3dv6
    Apr 26, 2015 5:29 PM - bamhm182: Good to know
Apr 26, 2015 5:29 PM - Mike Glass: I can use v6 nozzles on my hex, that is the .8 I got was for the v6
Apr 26, 2015 5:30 PM - jbigler1986: Yep. You can use hex nozzle on e3dv6 heat block too.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:30 PM - jbigler1986: I wouldn't suggest it but you can do it
Apr 26, 2015 5:30 PM - insomniac_lemon: Yeah, mega prusa i3 with a volcano would be pretty sweet. That would be awesome it the volcano worked on the hex.
Apr 26, 2015 5:31 PM - Mike Glass: they are too short jb
Apr 26, 2015 5:31 PM - Mike Glass: the dont seal properly
Apr 26, 2015 5:31 PM - insomniac_lemon: Heh, doubt anyone would give a v6 for a hex unless you gave them more stuff
Apr 26, 2015 5:31 PM - jbigler1986: Nope. Me and Mike figured it out Friday. It would work
Apr 26, 2015 5:32 PM - Mike Glass: if you screw the heatbreak down further yeah
    Apr 26, 2015 5:32 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah. That's why I said it will work but I wouldn't suggest it
    Apr 26, 2015 5:33 PM - jbigler1986: But in a pinch it would work
Apr 26, 2015 5:33 PM - Mike Glass: I like the the cheapies I got they are longer after I modified them, and 4 for $12 was a steal
Apr 26, 2015 5:34 PM - bamhm182: So since the stepper motors have 4 wires, I decided I was going to put a female 8-pin PCI-E connector on the side of my printer, and have a male run up to the two stepper motors attached to my pegboard. I think I might also steal that idea for the hot end since those should use 8 as well. 2 for the cold end fan, 2 for the hot end fan, 2 for the thermistor, and 2 for the heater
    Apr 26, 2015 5:34 PM - Mike Glass: now I have .2,.3,.4,.5 nozzles
Apr 26, 2015 5:34 PM - bamhm182: Then I'd just need to write down the pinout I used for the 8-Pin PCI-E connector and I could just unplug one and throw in another one
Apr 26, 2015 5:35 PM - Mike Glass: not sure what those are rated at.
Apr 26, 2015 5:36 PM - bamhm182: I imagine if it's fine for a graphics card, it'd be fine for this. I could be wrong though
Apr 26, 2015 5:37 PM - Mike Glass: I used cat 5 on my steppers for my cnc but doubled up the wires.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:38 PM - bamhm182: According to this, each of the wires can do 12V/2A. Shouldn't be a problem. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274631-28-power-spec-power-plug
Apr 26, 2015 5:39 PM - bamhm182: I had thought about using cat5 as well, but I decided against it just because I wanted a single connector for both
Apr 26, 2015 5:39 PM - Mike Glass: oh, I thought it was a different connector.
    Apr 26, 2015 5:39 PM - bamhm182: https://www.google.com/search?q=8-P...9Vf_wJcGxsAWXpIGYCw#imgrc=Y90km_7WR6v_OM%3A;t

    Apr 26, 2015 5:40 PM - bamhm182: That's the guy I'm talking about

Apr 26, 2015 5:40 PM - Mike Glass: just a regular ps molex connector.
Apr 26, 2015 5:41 PM - bamhm182: Anyways, I've been putting off running to the store. In the interest of being able to eat this week, I'd better get to that.
Apr 26, 2015 5:41 PM - Mike Glass: how much are they
    Apr 26, 2015 5:41 PM - bamhm182: Yeah, basically
    Apr 26, 2015 5:46 PM - jbigler1986: I plan on using one of those connectors after I make a case/holder for them
Apr 26, 2015 5:48 PM - Mike Glass: just buy the pins and print your own connector
    Apr 26, 2015 5:49 PM - jbigler1986: I don't feel like crimping. Just gonna splice
Apr 26, 2015 6:02 PM - Mike Glass: does the robo have all 5 stepper drivers installed?
Apr 26, 2015 6:12 PM - bamhm182: For some reason the thought to do that hand't even crossed my mind
Apr 26, 2015 6:12 PM - bamhm182: Oh well, already bought the connectors. Maybe next time. :p
Apr 26, 2015 6:27 PM - bamhm182: Mike Glass, how did you get your printer to trace like in the thread you had me look at earlier? Is it just a 1 layer STL that you imported into your slicer?
Apr 26, 2015 6:29 PM - bamhm182: Looking at the settings in Simplify3D, I notice there is a retraction vertical lift. I'm assuming you used something like that to move from point to point without drawing, right?
Apr 26, 2015 6:37 PM - Mike Glass: You can have it start on a particular layer, then start on particular layer.
Apr 26, 2015 6:37 PM - Mike Glass: yep vertical lift
Apr 26, 2015 6:45 PM - insomniac_lemon: bamhm182: I just got JST connectors like the stock robo uses.... so I'll probably use 2 connectors each to hook up the extruders....
Apr 26, 2015 6:47 PM - bamhm182: I was thinking about that, the only reason I didn't want to do that is because I didn't want to have the ability to mix them up
Apr 26, 2015 6:48 PM - bamhm182: And fair enough. I'm definitely going to have to make an addition to Mike Kelly's modular carriage to hold pens, markers, etc. and try that out, because that's pretty awesome
Apr 26, 2015 6:50 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, I'll probably group each set of connectors where you just look at the colors
    Apr 26, 2015 6:50 PM - insomniac_lemon: And what's this about modular carriage? Did I miss somethinh?
Apr 26, 2015 6:51 PM - insomniac_lemon: Or is that the Chimera one he made because it has holes in the sides?
Apr 26, 2015 6:52 PM - insomniac_lemon: Also, I like the sound of that, but unless I make a better z-probe always something I've wanted to do with dedicated CNC.

    Apr 26, 2015 6:59 PM - bamhm182: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:681916
    Apr 26, 2015 7:00 PM - bamhm182: That's the modular carriage I'm talking about, Insomniac
    Apr 26, 2015 7:01 PM - bamhm182: Is that you driving, Bill?
Apr 26, 2015 7:02 PM - bamhm182: Insomniac, he made the carriage so you could just swap out the center piece to swap in a different extruder
Apr 26, 2015 7:02 PM - bamhm182: That's also one of the reasons I wanted to get a CNC machine, but hey, here's part of the fun with no where near all of the work! Haha
    Apr 26, 2015 7:03 PM - insomniac_lemon: Ok, dang, I made his earlier x-carraige
    Apr 26, 2015 7:03 PM - insomniac_lemon: err, well printed I should say
Apr 26, 2015 7:03 PM - insomniac_lemon: It does have holes in the side, though. D'ya think any of the accessories you mentioned are compatible?
    Apr 26, 2015 7:05 PM - bamhm182: What accessories did I mention?
    Apr 26, 2015 7:06 PM - insomniac_lemon: Attaching a marker for drawing
Apr 26, 2015 7:06 PM - bamhm182: My plan was just to take one of the carriage plates he already made, then delete all the holes and toss one big hole in the middle that would hold pens using 3 screws that are set up kind of like those dome lightbulb covers
Apr 26, 2015 7:09 PM - bamhm182: I can't seem to find a good picture of what I'm talking about, but basically just get a hole, put 3 holes for screws an equal distance apart half way down the hole, screw them in from the outside, put a nut on the inside, then when they're all screwed in an equal distance, it'll hold something cylindrical fairly steady
Apr 26, 2015 7:18 PM - bamhm182: It just occurred to me that you probably hadn't seem Mike Glass's setup. http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/robo-on-steroids.4716/page-2#post-45464
Apr 26, 2015 7:21 PM - insomniac_lemon: I've actually seen the thread (and the OP video) but I don't think I went to page 2
Apr 26, 2015 7:24 PM - insomniac_lemon: Pretty cool. Though I think I might actually like the idea of using a laser cutter to engrave, though.
Apr 26, 2015 7:35 PM - bamhm182: Yeah, that would be pretty sweet
Apr 26, 2015 7:35 PM - bamhm182: I think anything crazy is going to wait until I rig up a CNC, but for just drawing, I think the Robo3D will do
Apr 26, 2015 7:37 PM - Bill Monroe: yup, that was me drving, today
Apr 26, 2015 7:44 PM - Droid: can you guys help me find the thread mike posted with step by step directions for flashing the arduino
    Apr 26, 2015 7:44 PM - bamhm182: Nice! Looks like fun!
Apr 26, 2015 7:45 PM - Bill Monroe: heck ya.. a real stock car not tuend down or anthing. great organizations.. it's a kick.
Apr 26, 2015 7:46 PM - Bill Monroe: last time I flashed something, women screamed
    Apr 26, 2015 7:47 PM - bamhm182: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/cant-find-home.1434
Apr 26, 2015 7:47 PM - bamhm182: 7th post down there should give you some help
    Apr 26, 2015 7:48 PM - bamhm182: Still though, that's probably much faster than anything I've driven
Apr 26, 2015 7:50 PM - Droid: i cant remember how to get the file in to the sketchbook directory.... its been a long day:/
Apr 26, 2015 8:01 PM - Droid: nvrmind found it
Apr 26, 2015 8:18 PM - bamhm182: Were you able to flash it right?
Apr 26, 2015 8:18 PM - bamhm182: Also, what prompted you to feel the need to flash?
