Apr 27, 2015 at 5:50 AM - Bill Monroe: I got to play Bass while Tom Petty sang Free-Falling :)
    Apr 27, 2015 at 5:51 AM - jbigler1986: that would be awesome
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:51 AM - Bill Monroe: it was fun.. he and jef lynne were jamming at the after party, I asked the bass player they had if I could do that one tune, he was cool
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:52 AM - Bill Monroe: seriously.. about as low-pressure, high fun weekend I've ever had, with people some I've not seen in 50 years.
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:54 AM - jbigler1986: i always has low-pressure days. I just go with the flow. If there is a problem and I can't directly solve it. I don't give 2 shits about it. I am a very relaxed person
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:54 AM - Bill Monroe: hope you stay that way.. life can be funny
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:55 AM - jbigler1986: it makes my wife mad sometimes that I am so nonchalant
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:55 AM - Bill Monroe: throw a bitter expensive divorce that involve three you innocent children in there, and the stress quotient goes off the chart
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:56 AM - Bill Monroe: young
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:56 AM - jbigler1986: in that situation i would probably not be happy
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:56 AM - jbigler1986: i will be damned if i ever lose my kids. no way in hell
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:57 AM - Bill Monroe: i want unhappy.. the Bruja was gone forever and I got to have the blessing of watching three kids in distress grow into fabulous adults that will leave the workd a better place
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:58 AM - Bill Monroe: but man, it took a LOT of effort and time to recover from that financially
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:58 AM - JeffTheMess: wait how i come back from race cars to loosing kids!?
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:58 AM - Bill Monroe: that's what happens when you doze off :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:59 AM - Bill Monroe: but if you want a 3D topic, I tried bronzefill and had an unexpected delighful result
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM - Bill Monroe: the parts are actually mechanically superior, even if you dont polish them
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM - jbigler1986: i have yet to try an exotic material
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM - jbigler1986: maybe matt is sending me a sample of some
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM - Bill Monroe: it worked perfectly with no changes to the machine at all
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM - JeffTheMess: i want to try flex to make creative ice cubes
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:00 AM - Bill Monroe: the material is real easy to trim and sand, slightly heavier
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:01 AM - jbigler1986: you can just print some then spray it with a silicon spray
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:01 AM - Bill Monroe: why would you do that?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:01 AM - JeffTheMess: whats the fun in that?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:01 AM - Bill Monroe: i dont allow silicon in the house
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:02 AM - jbigler1986: it would be cheaper than flex filament. just saying
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:03 AM - Bill Monroe: bah
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:03 AM - Bill Monroe: that stuff migrates like honey at the dinner table
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:03 AM - Bill Monroe: eventually, it'll ket to electronics... and prevent solder sticking to *anything*
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:03 AM - jbigler1986: what
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:04 AM - Bill Monroe: i had to scrap a 6 figure machine used to asseble circuit boards becuase it contaminated the parts.. NOTHING would clean it off
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:04 AM - JeffTheMess: talk about bad investment
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:05 AM - Bill Monroe: actually, the guy who put it on everything was the bad investment
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:05 AM - Bill Monroe: he used that stuff like a cropduster during a locust invasion
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:06 AM - Bill Monroe: he's the one who cuased me to use the expression "fix it until it's broken"
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:06 AM - jbigler1986: well that's his own fault
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: or "if it's not broken, fix it until it is"
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:07 AM - jbigler1986: just take the stuff outside and spray it. problem solved
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: naw.. it'll migrate..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:07 AM - jbigler1986: why the hell was he using it around electronics?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: cuz the machine was working fine... he could never let that go without doing something
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:08 AM - Bill Monroe: I invited him to find success elsewhere
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:08 AM - jbigler1986: lol
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:09 AM - Bill Monroe: two years later, his new wife backed over him with her motorhome
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:09 AM - Bill Monroe: like we said in the 60s. Karma will get you

Apr 27, 2015 at 6:09 AM - jbigler1986: on the 3d printer side of things. I need to clean my y rods. they squeak bad on the back 1/4. pretty sure there is some stuff on that part of the rod. the rest of the rod sounds fine or else i would think it was the bearings
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:10 AM - Bill Monroe: keep your bearings clean is good life advice
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:11 AM - Bill Monroe: keeping your rod lubed is good realtionship advice too
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:11 AM - jbigler1986: lol
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:11 AM - Bill Monroe: <-- life observer
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - Printed Solid: hey Bill, I used your bearing cleaning advice, minus ultrasonic cleaner.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - jbigler1986: well my surprise from Matt will be here in an hour or 2. I have no clue what all he sent besides a few things I actually needed from him
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - Printed Solid: Did OK.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - jbigler1986: oh. hello there
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - Printed Solid: haha. funny timing.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - Bill Monroe: how'd it do?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - Printed Solid: OK. I lost some balls, which is never a good thing. LOL.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - jbigler1986: never never never
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:13 AM - Printed Solid: The fix was good enough to get it through the print though.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:14 AM - JeffTheMess: nice to know hatchbox is fairly close to me
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:14 AM - Printed Solid: The one bearing was completely seized.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:14 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, thats not the manufacturers fault and doesnt mean they're cheap, that happens even to high-end thompsons
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:14 AM - jbigler1986: can't believe the package is here already. looks like i have work to do tonight. :D
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:14 AM - Printed Solid: yeah. not sure that this type of bearing is really rated for transaxial loading.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:16 AM - jbigler1986: I wish there wasn't such a fluctuation in quality of LM8UU bearings
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:16 AM - Bill Monroe: with the expensive ones, i'll put an acrylic dowel in there to keep the balls in place..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:16 AM - Printed Solid: during your cleaning?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: its not so much the quality of the bearing, it's more from contamination.. the chinese low-end guys dont make any effort to keep them clean
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. I drill holes in it to allow the cleaning fluids to get it
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:17 AM - Printed Solid: in the dowel?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: but it's really the ultrasond that doesnt the grunt work
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, in the dowel
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:18 AM - Bill Monroe: but losing a ball or three isnt the end of the world
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:18 AM - Bill Monroe: does the grunt work
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:19 AM - jbigler1986: I disagree. Losing even one ball would be a disaster
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:19 AM - Bill Monroe: cleaning those recirculating ball linear bearings is an art, but it's important that their clean and lubed with good quality lubricant
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:19 AM - jbigler1986: ;)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:19 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. lance did it and look at the mess he's been in
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:20 AM - jbigler1986: i should probably clean the 10 i have
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:20 AM - Bill Monroe: must be hard for you to walk
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:20 AM - Mike Glass: lol
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:20 AM - Mike Glass: Bill's a funny man today:)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:20 AM - Bill Monroe: wait, i think I got out of synch with the convos
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:21 AM - jbigler1986: well didn't think about how that would have been taken. woops
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:21 AM - jbigler1986: http://www.harborfreight.com/ultrasonic-cleaner-3305.html
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:21 AM - Mike Glass: what solution do you use bill
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:22 AM - Bill Monroe: that one is marginal.. get the $80 one from harbor freight
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:22 AM - jbigler1986: http://www.harborfreight.com/25-liter-ultrasonic-cleaner-95563.html
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:23 AM - Bill Monroe: me? I have a monster 7 gallon german made one with heat an adjustable power... but the $80 one from harbor freight is perfect for lm chinese bearing cleaning
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:23 AM - Mike Glass: I meant the actual liquid you use.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:23 AM - Bill Monroe: yes, that one.. very fine all around cleaner for home use
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:23 AM - Bill Monroe: oh! 3 steps
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:24 AM - Bill Monroe: first, paint thinner.. dissolves the lousy chinese lube and frees everything up
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:24 AM - Mike Glass: mineral oil work I assume.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:24 AM - Bill Monroe: second, dematured alcohol.. cleans and flushes
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:25 AM - Bill Monroe: third, clean lightweight oil.. mineral is fine.. sewing machine oil, even transmission fluid works well
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:26 AM - Mike Glass: So, you use all those in the cleaner
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: wipe then down with lint-free cloth.. let them drain ... presto.. never have problems
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:26 AM - JeffTheMess: damn electric actuators are expensive mofos
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:26 AM - Mike Glass: or just the mineral
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, the ultrasond is really good and getting all that stuff into the tiny places
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:27 AM - Bill Monroe: put you jewelery in there too, using hot water and some dawn.. 3 minutes and they look new.. wives love them
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:28 AM - Mike Glass: we have a smaller one and it does wonders on jewlery, never used dish soap in there though.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:28 AM - Bill Monroe: if you REALLY want to impress it, do it where there's halogeb lighting, that's the trick the jewlery stors use
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:29 AM - jbigler1986: maybe i can just take my bearings in my jewelry store. lol
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:29 AM - Bill Monroe: my kitchen in joshua tree has halogens.. my wife cleaned her wedding ring and when she pulled it out, she fell in love all over again
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: seriously, you'll find all kinds of uses for that Harbor freight unit
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:32 AM - Bill Monroe: that monster I have is what the company used for cleaning out the HIPS from the ABS printer.. but no one like the cuastic stuff so it never got used. when they scrapped the printer and I got it, I got the cleaner too :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:32 AM - Mike Glass: Wish it could wash my truck
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:33 AM - Bill Monroe: they paid 11K for it.. the kind of thing you have to be in the right place at the right time and realize what you got.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:33 AM - Bill Monroe: it could Mike.. one piece at a time :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: i freind of mine puts fastener from antique stuff in his using Denatured Alcohol and some little ceramic tumbler media... then he sends them out for plating.. amazing
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: cadmium plating..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:38 AM - Mike Glass: nice, im gonna try copper plating on some hardware, finally found some copper scouring pads.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: that's be awesome
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 AM - Bill Monroe: i dont dare show my wife copper plating.. i wouldnt be doing anything else if she knew that was possible
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 AM - jbigler1986: meth pipe. yes
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 AM - Mike Glass: seems simple enough
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:40 AM - Mike Glass: how about copper fill filament?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:40 AM - Mike Glass: I need to try some of th at
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 AM - jbigler1986: do they have that?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 AM - Mike Glass: ye PS has it
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: i made a copper-sheet overflow tank for my model-a once.. I could see her wheels spinning at light speed
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 AM - jbigler1986: interesting. Have only seen bronze
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: bronze is basically copper anyway
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 AM - Mike Glass: I think they have all the metal now, even stainless.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 AM - Mike Glass: just shines up better I suppose compared to bronze
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: red bronze that is.. manganese broze looks like brass
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 AM - jbigler1986: i wonder how it holds up to chemicals like gas
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 AM - Mike Glass: Its still pla bases
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 AM - Mike Glass: based
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: matt could tell you as an experts, but I think all the fills have to be treated just like PLA..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 AM - Mike Glass: just heavy plastic is all
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. and dont power-buff it..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: dont ask me how I know :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:44 AM - Mike Glass: howo did those parts come out bill
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:44 AM - Bill Monroe: <-- does a touch-and-go off your forehead
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:44 AM - Mike Glass: you didnt take them to the wheel did ya?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: oh no, i did
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:48 AM - jbigler1986: i need to buy a new type b cable. not sure where i put my robo one

Apr 27, 2015 at 6:53 AM - jbigler1986: i don't think i have any laying around. maybe on my old printer
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:57 AM - Mike Glass: I have like 500 of those cables.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:58 AM - jbigler1986: i tossed them all a while ago

Apr 27, 2015 at 6:59 AM - Bill Monroe: just another sign that judgement day is coming.. :)

Apr 27, 2015 at 7:10 AM - Bill Monroe: i dunno... short track racing its hard to get to deadly speeds in those cars.. they're pretty well safety enigneered
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:10 AM - jbigler1986: they are yes. crazy shit happens sometimes
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:10 AM - jbigler1986: But overall they are very safe

Apr 27, 2015 at 7:35 AM - Bill Monroe: jb, I know you were flooing with printing bearings.. I think the bronzefill, holes reamed and lubed with some graphite, might work pretty good
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:37 AM - jbigler1986: not a bad idea. Yeah I tested 4 of the 10 bearings i bought and they sounded a little rough and grabbed a little.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:37 AM - jbigler1986: So I didn't use those 4. Haven't tested the others yet
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:40 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. the parts I printed are for a similar use (not on the printer axis') so I'll see if they work
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:41 AM - Bill Monroe: where did you buy them?
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:41 AM - jbigler1986: amazon. so probably china oned

Apr 27, 2015 at 7:50 AM - JeffTheMess: anyone know of a way to print with sand via fdm?
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:52 AM - Mike Glass: dip your filament in canola then in sand it should work fine.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:53 AM - Mike Glass: make sure you use a nozzle bigger then a 1.0 though
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:53 AM - Bill Monroe: this is a machine I made 14 years ago.. uses genuint Thompson brand 3/8" recirculating linear bearings and hardened steel shafts.. 350 million + cycles so far.. never lubed them, no sign of wear:
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:54 AM - JeffTheMess: for casting though
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: i've though it would be fun to make a bigger machine and extrude concrete.. make sundial and sidewalk portions with address and stuff like that
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:55 AM - Bill Monroe: sprinkle calve vaults?
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:55 AM - Bill Monroe: valve

    Apr 27, 2015 at 8:00 AM - jbigler1986: there we go
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:00 AM - jbigler1986: not sure if my wife would approve that
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:00 AM - Bill Monroe: well, if you have to ask....
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:01 AM - Bill Monroe: Matt will start stocking 1/2 pipe nippls from Home Depot as sell then as printing nozzles :)
    Apr 27, 2015 at 8:01 AM - jbigler1986: lmao

Apr 27, 2015 at 8:07 AM - Bill Monroe: use rubber wheelbarrow wheels from harbor freight for bearings.. angle iron for the frame..
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:07 AM - Bill Monroe: I'm scaring myself again
    Apr 27, 2015 at 8:07 AM - jbigler1986: ummmm
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:08 AM - jbigler1986: i think that should be your next project
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:08 AM - Bill Monroe: moving table is out of the question... would need to provide forklift access
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:08 AM - jbigler1986: if china can do then you can
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:08 AM - Bill Monroe: have to me trailerable
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:08 AM - Bill Monroe: be trailerable
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:09 AM - Bill Monroe: oh ya, need to import a dozen chinese laborers
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:10 AM - Bill Monroe: i got a nifty string encode I could use for the Z axis.. then lift it hydraulically
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:10 AM - Bill Monroe: holy crap.. this could work
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:10 AM - Bill Monroe: and run on a RAMPS
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:12 AM - Bill Monroe: well, maybe not a ramps.. but an arduino running Marlin could do it
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:12 AM - Bill Monroe: i can see the branch on GITHUB now.. marlin - concrete edition :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:15 AM - Bill Monroe: lessee screw pump mounted low to avoid cavitation, feed to the nozzle with concete pump hose... it would be bowden-esque :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:16 AM - jbigler1986: and Bill is building his BOM right now
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:17 AM - Bill Monroe: naw.. boms = documentation.. I'm a "fake engineer" therefore, I dont do documentation :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:17 AM - Bill Monroe: but my intern... she's in for a surprise :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 8:18 AM - jbigler1986: "He I have all of this construction stuff go get. Go get it for me."

Apr 27, 2015 at 9:22 AM - Bill Monroe: gads, it's beautiful outside
Apr 27, 2015 at 9:26 AM - Bill Monroe: Jeff, if you're interested in wax for making molds, there's actually much much better ways to make much better quality molds with not a lot of difference in work..
Apr 27, 2015 at 9:26 AM - Bill Monroe: still use the 3d printer though, for the original
Apr 27, 2015 at 9:26 AM - Bill Monroe: just using your favorite plastic filament

Apr 27, 2015 at 10:13 AM - Bill Monroe: part of our weekend was to see Jeff Lynne get his star on the walk of fame.. Tom Petty was a presenter.. after they had a jam session at the capital records building.. a prty of sorts for those who came and want to hang out.. I had my bass in the truck
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:14 AM - Mike Glass: its all about the bass, bass, bass
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:14 AM - Bill Monroe: they had some studio guys making up a band to play with, I asked the bass guy if I could do one tune.. it's a prty so he said sure. I got my bass and played while Petty did free fallin
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:15 AM - Mike Glass: sure it wasnt free ballin?\
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:15 AM - Mike Glass: freebasing

    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:15 AM - Bill Monroe: +s
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:16 AM - WayUpNorthMN: So would anyone know how to stop the "Extruder switched off" error when my fan runs? It tells me that the temps lowered too much because of the fan.
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:16 AM - WayUpNorthMN: My fan runs at 100% when it starts.
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:16 AM - Mike Glass: man ardiuno site is slowwwwww
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:16 AM - Bill Monroe: i thought that was my problem once.. I put a business card across the fan partway to test it
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:17 AM - Mike Glass: or turn the max down
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:17 AM - Bill Monroe: is it the fan on the heatssink or the part fan?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:18 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Well I just installed a fan shroud, particularily this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:697200
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:18 AM - Bill Monroe: the downloading from the microsoft sight is uber slow right now.. and imgur just froze.. I wonder if there's something going on with the internet in general?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:18 AM - WayUpNorthMN: And just the print fan
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:18 AM - Bill Monroe: do you know where the print fan is connected on the RAMPS?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - JasonSolves: quick question about first layer,
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Nope! But I could figure it out. Is that an issue
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - Bill Monroe: if it's an unmolested robo, should be D9
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - JasonSolves: would you say this it too high, too low, to hot?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - JasonSolves: [IMG]
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - JasonSolves: [IMG]
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, if it's not D9, you may not have control over the speed
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:20 AM - jbigler1986: looks a little to low
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:20 AM - WayUpNorthMN: D9?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:20 AM - WayUpNorthMN: What do you mean?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:20 AM - Mike Glass: yep too low
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:21 AM - Mike Glass: raise it up .03
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:21 AM - Bill Monroe: heat too low
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:21 AM - Bill Monroe: not sticking good enough too
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:21 AM - WayUpNorthMN: So should I try and lower the fan speed?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM - Bill Monroe: I dont think the layer height is the main problem.... but i did sleep at a holiday inn last night
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM - JasonSolves: cool
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM - Mike Glass: do you have any hairspray on the bed jason?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM - JasonSolves: test take 30
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM - jbigler1986: it should be smooth and not all squiggly
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:22 AM - Bill Monroe: MN, honestly no, unless the parts fan is a hurrican and blowing directly on the nozzle
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:23 AM - WayUpNorthMN: ITs not that strong, but all I get is an error stating that the temp fell too much.
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:23 AM - WayUpNorthMN: On the graph, the line didnt even move.
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:23 AM - Bill Monroe: that should not cool the nozzle enough to effect the thermistor

Apr 27, 2015 at 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: turn up the heat on the extruder
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:23 AM - Bill Monroe: oh. that's wierd.. could be a totally different problem
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:24 AM - Bill Monroe: i dont know all the failure modes that will throw that error
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:24 AM - Mike Glass: maybe too low, what temp are you trying to print at?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:24 AM - WayUpNorthMN: 210
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:24 AM - JasonSolves: yes hairspray
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:25 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Always worked for me :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:25 AM - Bill Monroe: 210 is in the zone
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:25 AM - Mike Glass: maybe loose thermistor

Apr 27, 2015 at 10:25 AM - WayUpNorthMN: And it printed fine, other than the poor overhangs, without the fan installed.
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:25 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, or loose intermittant connection somewhere?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:27 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Would placing a parts fan on the printer affect that?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:28 AM - Bill Monroe: I would say no
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:28 AM - WayUpNorthMN: It always fails at the exact same spot, I should add.
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:28 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, I'm still on bad connection
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:29 AM - Bill Monroe: or bad thrmistor, I guess that's possible too
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:29 AM - Bill Monroe: somehow the firmware thinks it went cold
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:29 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Can I bypass that error for a small amount of time?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:29 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Or change the tolerances?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - Bill Monroe: wait a sec.. didnt you say the data chart still said it was hot?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Yep
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Didnt drop more than a degree or two
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, I'm still one loose intermittant connection
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - WayUpNorthMN: When the fan kicked in
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - JasonSolves: oops, way to high now....
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - TechSupportGo: hello
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:30 AM - Bill Monroe: TSG
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:31 AM - Bill Monroe: you're stock robo?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:31 AM - Bill Monroe: i ean that for MN
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:32 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I am using an E3D, if I didn't mention that
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:33 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, they're terms are inexpennsive and easy to change. if it was me, I'd put in a new one and replace all the wiring back to the ramps
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:33 AM - Bill Monroe: give it the scorched-earth treatment
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:37 AM - Bill Monroe: Jason, if height was your problem, I'd think you'd see it on the perimeter first.. since you only had it in the interior, which usually runs faster, I'd say bring the temp up a bit or slow the infill down
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:37 AM - Bill Monroe: I've seen similar things happen on mine too when I had too much friction in the bowden
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM - JasonSolves: It had not made it to infill yet
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM - JasonSolves: it was the first layer
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM - Bill Monroe: I meant when it fills-in the first layer
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM - JasonSolves: It is almost like part of it curls up and the head grabs it
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM - Bill Monroe: yup.. annoying huh?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: i actually saw a video online when a guy was demostrating it, but I cant find it now
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:41 AM - WayUpNorthMN: I am just going to debug for now. How do I keep the parts fan on for the whole print? How would I set that
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:41 AM - Bill Monroe: tell the slicer
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:42 AM - WayUpNorthMN: troubleshoot*
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:42 AM - WayUpNorthMN: Where is that located in cura?
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:43 AM - Bill Monroe: I have no idea.. i eft the cura world a long time ago
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:47 AM - jbigler1986: @way i wold rewire
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:47 AM - jbigler1986: would*
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:48 AM - jbigler1986: do you have pics of the wiring
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:48 AM - TechSupportGo: I added dual fan mount and better hobbed bolt
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:49 AM - Bill Monroe: I hate dual fans... block view of the nozzle
Apr 27, 2015 at 10:49 AM - Bill Monroe: well.. hate is too strong of a word
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:51 AM - jbigler1986: i can see my nozzle fine
    Apr 27, 2015 at 10:52 AM - jbigler1986: it's just your eyes Bill :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:05 AM - jbigler1986: ok so what issues are you guys having
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:06 AM - toy: http://i.imgur.com/gTWYMQW.jpg just a little bit more machining to go
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:07 AM - JeffTheMess: get ready for this folks
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:07 AM - Mike Glass: 8825 drivers?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:07 AM - toy: no
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:08 AM - Mike Glass: why not?
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:08 AM - toy: but i did use artic silver thermal paste =)
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:08 AM - toy: i had these already
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:09 AM - Mike Glass: I hope the super glue I used will work not sure though
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:09 AM - toy: you superglued the heatsink to the chip?
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:09 AM - Mike Glass: yea, that was what alot were doing in the forums that I read
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:10 AM - toy: wow
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:10 AM - jbigler1986: should have used bondic
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:10 AM - Mike Glass: they make some two sided sticky tape also that is suppose to work.
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM - Mike Glass: The Uv light would erase the chip
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM - toy: http://www.newark.com/arctic-silver...d|53816249181|plid|&CMP=KNC-GPLA?gross_price=

    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM - toy: used
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM - jbigler1986: artic silver is the best
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM - Mike Glass: I have some of that
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:11 AM - jbigler1986: used it on game consoles when i use to mod and repair them
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:12 AM - Mike Glass: but it is not glue?
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:12 AM - toy: ive been meaning to redo my cpu stock thermal paste with artic silver
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:12 AM - toy: not a glue... so u cant touch the heatsink once it is on
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:12 AM - Mike Glass: what if it slides off and shorts out the pins?
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:12 AM - jbigler1986: it's not a glue but it holds really really good
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:13 AM - toy: how often are u really touching the drivers and stuff
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:16 AM - Mike Glass: wires in the case could hit them
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:18 AM - jbigler1986: if they aren't exposed it shouldn't be a big deal
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:21 AM - Mike Glass: its a small space for wires is all, they recommended gluing them.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 11:22 AM - jbigler1986: whatever works. that's how i like to do things
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:23 AM - Mike Glass: and they are upside down on the robo I wouldnt trust it.

Apr 27, 2015 at 11:32 AM - Mike Glass: I saw people take the artic silver and mix it with regular epoxy also
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:34 AM - jbigler1986: you used gorilla glue right?
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:48 AM - Mike Glass: negatory
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:51 AM - jbigler1986: i was kidding. i know you hate it. hot glue would have been good too
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:52 AM - jbigler1986: anyways. is it finished yet
Apr 27, 2015 at 11:57 AM - Mike Glass: its done, now just trying to figure out the software, it has not end stops, so im trying to come up with mounts for that.
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:08 PM - Bill Monroe: wait.. did i see that right, they still use UV erasing eeproms???
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:09 PM - jbigler1986: it's possible that uv can erase eeprom. would just take a while though
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:09 PM - Bill Monroe: if it didnt have a window, it would not rease
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:10 PM - Bill Monroe: and i've not seem them in years
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:10 PM - jbigler1986: it can still erase without a window. Just takes a long time
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:11 PM - Bill Monroe: well sure, a few years maybe
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:11 PM - Bill Monroe: that's like sayia blowtorch can erase them :)

Apr 27, 2015 at 12:16 PM - Mike Glass: ugg repetier keeps crashing
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:17 PM - jbigler1986: it could erase it. more likely to scramble it than erase though. would probably use all of the battery though
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:19 PM - Mike Glass: damn its cold in the shop today
    Apr 27, 2015 at 12:28 PM - jbigler1986: robo is loonely today
    Apr 27, 2015 at 12:28 PM - jbigler1986: lonely*
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:29 PM - Bill Monroe: i use some heat xferring sticky tape for this tiny sinks (which I doubt so any significant cooling)
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:30 PM - toy: at least u have a shop.... im still building mines
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:31 PM - jbigler1986: no shop for me either. can't have one until we get a house with 3 car garage
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:31 PM - jbigler1986: then i will have to close off 1 of the bays
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:33 PM - toy: my sis bought a house and they will let me turn the garage into a full on machine shop
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:33 PM - Stephen Capistron: going to build your own lathe too?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 12:34 PM - toy: funny u ask....

Apr 27, 2015 at 12:50 PM - Bill Monroe: hard
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:50 PM - Bill Monroe: mill, easy peasy
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:50 PM - Bill Monroe: especially if it's a bridgeport or clone
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:55 PM - toy: yeah my wells index retrofit is coming along nicely..... until i see this lathe i wont know for sure
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:56 PM - Bill Monroe: the hard part is the screws.. if it's not been built for CNC, the screws are some form of acme, which have too much backlash
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:56 PM - toy: they would most likely need replaced
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:57 PM - toy: i found a good source for quality used linear motion components
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:57 PM - Bill Monroe: finding zero backlash screws that fit are nearly impossible, unless availble form themanufacturere
Apr 27, 2015 at 12:57 PM - Bill Monroe: I have a 70s vintage Grazion that I got unused in the 80s, it was cheaper to build a CNC lathe from scatch

Apr 27, 2015 at 12:59 PM - Bill Monroe: ah, if you're thinking about bolting something on external... might work if it's a little machine
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:00 PM - Bill Monroe: Hiwin is where I went for ball screws, they'll do a cerain amount of customization.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:00 PM - toy: http://www.wells-index.com/847-milling-machine.php my mill
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:01 PM - toy: for my mill....im gonna build a new x-y axis on top of the existing table
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:01 PM - Bill Monroe: looks nice.. goofy brake :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:01 PM - toy: just bolt it straight on..... ( drop the z -axis all the way to the bottom
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:01 PM - Bill Monroe: dont know if but if it's a true brdgeport close, bolt-on kits are avaialble
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:02 PM - toy: they cost to much... let me show u my cad model.... one sec
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:02 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, i prefer to motor the Z, when the quill extends all the way doy cut quality and accuracy go out the window

Apr 27, 2015 at 1:03 PM - Bill Monroe: dont need ball screws for Z :) weight keeps it agains the thread so, no backlash!
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:03 PM - toy: i still havent decided where i will mount the z- stepper motor
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:03 PM - toy: i have 2 options
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:04 PM - Bill Monroe: aha, good idea.. just make a smaller table and bol it on.. nice
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:04 PM - Bill Monroe: I used monster servos on mine, cuz I had them
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:04 PM - toy: yup.... my friend has a huge mold base company.. so i can put those plates on his surface grinder
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:04 PM - Bill Monroe: all run by a Galil controller

Apr 27, 2015 at 1:05 PM - toy: this seemed like an easier faster cheaper way
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:05 PM - Bill Monroe: I have a Tormach in my budget for 2016... the tree is going to a new home
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:06 PM - toy: ive heard mixxed reviews on the tormach
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:06 PM - Bill Monroe: i've used them, the local maker place hsa one, 2 gunshops I know use them
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:06 PM - Bill Monroe: i think the bad reviews I've seen are from noobs that tought it was plug and play
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:07 PM - Bill Monroe: you still need to machinst skills..
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:08 PM - toy: even the guy on nyc cnc ( youtube) has one and says its only fair ( not a haas or anything)
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:08 PM - toy: whats the cost of a tormach?

Apr 27, 2015 at 1:20 PM - jbigler1986: well yeah. it's usually more trial and error when you learn from the internet
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:21 PM - Bill Monroe: and, you wont agree, until you expereince it :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:21 PM - Bill Monroe: how long before the bill expiires?

Apr 27, 2015 at 1:22 PM - toy: Q: I retired from the military more than 20 years ago, but I never used my Montgomery GI Bill benefit, can I still use it today? A: Montgomery GI Bill benefits expire 10 years after the latest discharge, which must be under honorable conditions. However, if you are a veteran who is currently unemployed, and between the ages of 35-60, you may qualify for an additional year of Montgomery GI Bill benefits under the VOW to Hire Heroes Act. To learn
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:22 PM - jbigler1986: it's usually 10 years
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:23 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, I thought i read 10 somewhere

Apr 27, 2015 at 1:26 PM - insomniac_lemon: Anybody know if the wire colors on some motors you get might be an issue? Stock is Blue-Red-Green-Black and my motors are Blue-Yellow-Green-Red
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:26 PM - Bill Monroe: a civilian based section of the government was looking for militar pilots with UH1 experience.. the saw was ending and I was getting the vibe I wasnt going to be allowed to reup... they interviewed me and made an offer (for a LOT of money) so I took the deal. I got our of the army early but had to sign away my benes
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:26 PM - insomniac_lemon: Not sure if it'll have to be rewired. Also, for the extruders
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:27 PM - jbigler1986: plug in the current plug and see if it works
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:27 PM - Bill Monroe: use a meter and find the pairs.. hook them up that way
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:27 PM - Bill Monroe: you might find the red on yours is just black on the others
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: send a movement command after you plug it in
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:28 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, as I posted the colors you'll see it's all mixed up, not just black/yellow
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:28 PM - Bill Monroe: I ended up flying in Laos for a year, then to columbia for two
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:28 PM - Bill Monroe: posted the colors?!?!? (standing up)
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:29 PM - toy: sounds very cia-ish
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:29 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, you guessed it
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:29 PM - Bill Monroe: didnt know when I signed though :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:29 PM - insomniac_lemon: These motors I got from SeemeCNC, with the ezstruder. Seems like somebody here would've went through the same thing
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:29 PM - toy: i didnt score a 1440 on my sat by just guessing
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:30 PM - Bill Monroe: <hi-6? toy
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: just unplug extruder wire and plug it into your stepper. then send G1 E50
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: or 10 or 5 or whatever
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:34 PM - insomniac_lemon: I mean, I can try, but I'm gonna have to use extensions for where I have it now....
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: did you install it before testing it?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:35 PM - insomniac_lemon: no
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:35 PM - insomniac_lemon: Kinda have it all apart and where I usually have my printer is not a good location to work
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:35 PM - Bill Monroe: i used extensions
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:35 PM - Bill Monroe: but no one believed it was my hair
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:36 PM - jbigler1986: unplug x motor then
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:36 PM - Bill Monroe: they were right, since I dont have any hair... on my head :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:36 PM - jbigler1986: just something so you can test
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:36 PM - toy: dreadlocks?
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:36 PM - insomniac_lemon: No jbigler, I meant my printer is further from my PC.... I'll need to use an extension cord and USB extender, haha
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:37 PM - jbigler1986: oh. didn't specify that
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: but the motor cord is short, too. At least for the final install
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:37 PM - jbigler1986: lcd?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: No
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:39 PM - jbigler1986: yeah your going to want to test them before installing them
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:40 PM - insomniac_lemon: Just seems like somebody out of all the upgrading people would've gone through this exact thing
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:40 PM - insomniac_lemon: Unless they never posted about it :/
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:41 PM - jbigler1986: look at my new rod guide in mods/upgrades. it's not complete yet but you will see i had wiring issues
    Apr 27, 2015 at 1:43 PM - toy: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/0AEE7B9AD4B3E04186256ACE005D833B
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:43 PM - jbigler1986: upgrades aren't all that simple. might seem like it but they aren't sometimes. just people are usually to busy figuring it out to post about it
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:49 PM - insomniac_lemon: jbigler: care to link me? All I saw was installing new lead screws and I don't see what you're talking about if so
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:50 PM - Stephen Capistron: i'm going to have nightmares from that NI link
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:52 PM - jbigler1986: best bet is to just plug in one of the stock stepper plugs and send a command
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:53 PM - insomniac_lemon: Stephen Capistron: As read by Ben Stein as a professor in a dusty classroom?
Apr 27, 2015 at 1:56 PM - toy: bill check out some of the linear motion components i bought already http://imgur.com/C3pG3gj
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:03 PM - insomniac_lemon: jbigler1986: Is there any way I can actually test it without reflashing the firmware to stop "cold extrusion prevented"
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:04 PM - jbigler1986: Use the x stepper plug
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:06 PM - insomniac_lemon: Erm, nevermind, M302 did the trick
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:06 PM - Bill Monroe: test
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:07 PM - toy: multiple choice or essay?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:08 PM - toy: http://www.wbaltv.com/news/demonstrators-converge-in-baltimore/32595700 "juveniles"?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:08 PM - jbigler1986: Choice of course
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:08 PM - jbigler1986: Answer is always E
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:09 PM - insomniac_lemon: So I guess it is reversed, unless I'm missing an important nuance in what the connections actually do.
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:09 PM - insomniac_lemon: Heh, these extruders are pretty loud, though
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:10 PM - jbigler1986: Probably not wired correct
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:10 PM - jbigler1986: How loud?
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:11 PM - Bill Monroe: anyone else have a white screen?
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:11 PM - insomniac_lemon: About as loud as the bed motors, plus white noise when it idles
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:12 PM - toy: adjust the pot
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:12 PM - toy: until it is not so loud
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:12 PM - insomniac_lemon: Toy, I don't smoke
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:12 PM - insomniac_lemon: Us hugs, not drugs
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:13 PM - insomniac_lemon: Arg, *use
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:16 PM - toy: until u get addicted to hugs... then what
    Apr 27, 2015 at 2:22 PM - insomniac_lemon: Hugs are free, man.
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:24 PM - insomniac_lemon: I guess those extruders are a bit quieter when you make 'em go faster
Apr 27, 2015 at 2:24 PM - insomniac_lemon: Or sounds that way, because pitch
    Apr 27, 2015 at 3:05 PM - Bill Monroe: 3 down, 1 to go :)
    Apr 27, 2015 at 3:16 PM - jbigler1986: What?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 3:52 PM - Bill Monroe: homework :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 4:00 PM - Bill Monroe: 4 down... done.. Miller time.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:41 PM - jbigler1986: pictures are done
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:45 PM - jbigler1986: Matt are you here
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:47 PM - toy: pics? i wanna see
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:49 PM - jbigler1986: never
Apr 27, 2015 at 4:56 PM - Bradf80: My build platforms are sticking to the print pretty hard, there any fix to that aside from a dual extruder and two different materials?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:56 PM - jbigler1986: i'm confused
Apr 27, 2015 at 4:56 PM - toy: how many build platfroms do u have?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:57 PM - jbigler1986: do you mean support?
Apr 27, 2015 at 4:57 PM - toy: i use to have problems with pla sticking to the bed.... i would just put a bag of ice on it for a few minutes and it would just pop off
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:58 PM - TechSupportGo: yolo
    Apr 27, 2015 at 4:59 PM - toy: howdy
    Apr 27, 2015 at 5:23 PM - jbigler1986: hmmm
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:35 PM - Mike Glass: hmm
Apr 27, 2015 at 5:36 PM - jbigler1986: Pics are done. I want so many of these parts. Probably going to get a few to have a backup v6 to be able to just plug and play
    Apr 27, 2015 at 5:36 PM - jbigler1986: I have a few things I would need already
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:09 PM - jbigler1986: Quiet night
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:14 PM - Mike Glass: yup it is
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:18 PM - Bill Monroe: back
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:23 PM - jbigler1986: Welcome back
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:23 PM - Bill Monroe: dood
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:36 PM - insomniac_lemon: Got the Cyclops half installed. ran into a few issues
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 PM - Bill Monroe: welcome to the world of Chimera/Cyclops..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: Not e3d's fault Bill, just stupid stuff on my part
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: Like the Z linear bearings had a few bearings popped out, so I had to replace them

Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 PM - Bill Monroe: wait till you start using it
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:37 PM - insomniac_lemon: and now I lost the nut that goes to one of the Z end stops
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 PM - insomniac_lemon: But I got the carriage on and all together, save the hotblock itself which I just need to hook up an tighten with heat first
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 PM - insomniac_lemon: Did you have issues, Bill?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 PM - Bill Monroe: yep, and I'm not the only one
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:39 PM - insomniac_lemon: What was it(s)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:40 PM - Bill Monroe: I disabled one side an am onl using the other... and it's still not as good
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:40 PM - Bill Monroe: for one thing, I blieve the heatsink.. doesnt
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 PM - Bill Monroe: for the chimnera, it's VERY difficult to get the niozzles the same height, and they MUST be EXACTLY the same
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well they do say you need material in BOTH sides or else it will leak up.... a higher temp material that won't crystallize (like T-glase) would be a good choice
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:41 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, for the cyclops you must be using both and that measn they pretty much must be the same material
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 PM - Bill Monroe: the retraction margin for retraction is very tiny
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:42 PM - insomniac_lemon: I feel like it might work with the stuff that has a wider range of working.... like maybe can go higher with PLA if you aren't worried about stringing
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 PM - Bill Monroe: exceed it, you either get drool or jams
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 PM - Bill Monroe: and I've not been able to keep it from stringing becuazse of that
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:43 PM - Bill Monroe: I'm reall good at clearing jams though :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:44 PM - Bill Monroe: E3D makes a supieor single nozzle.. the rest.. well...
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:44 PM - Bill Monroe: at least they tried.. I had such hope
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:45 PM - jbigler1986: Looks like the fun has begun
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:46 PM - insomniac_lemon: I haven't tried it yet so speculation, but I feel like this is such a new thing that people might just underestimate the calibration required
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:47 PM - Bill Monroe: that's it.. stay optomistic
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:47 PM - insomniac_lemon: Also following what they said to the letter
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:47 PM - insomniac_lemon: What was it you where saying about the heatsink, Bill?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:47 PM - jbigler1986: Nope. I have said it already. I don't even have it and I know it's a ton of work and headache
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:48 PM - insomniac_lemon: Not sure if it was you that said it about the heatsink before or somebody else
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:48 PM - Bill Monroe: it's doesnt.. in other words, it doesnt sink heat away enough.. so the heat breakl gets too hot and you cant retract far enough
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:49 PM - Bill Monroe: honestly, I think if they redesigned that part it wold have a chance
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:49 PM - Bill Monroe: BUT, that doesnt fix the other problem...
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:49 PM - insomniac_lemon: Was this like with PLA or way higher temps?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:49 PM - Bill Monroe: i tried PLA PLA/PHA. XT, bronxefill.. etc...
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:49 PM - insomniac_lemon: Also what was your ambient temp?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:50 PM - Bill Monroe: listen.. try it..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:50 PM - jbigler1986: Can I ask what you plan on using it for?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:50 PM - insomniac_lemon: Me?
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:50 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:50 PM - insomniac_lemon: And I will Bill, as soon as I find this nut :p
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:51 PM - Bill Monroe: talk to me after you've had it running well for 2 months
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:52 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, I plan on printing MX keycaps (already done blank ones alright, needing a smaller nozzle), name tags, statuettes, maybe bookmarks and posters and things like that
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:52 PM - Bill Monroe: in the mean time, I using the single channel I have to make a new carriage that uses two single nozzles, with one top secret addition to fix the other problem :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:53 PM - insomniac_lemon: Bill, you should get an Aluminum carriage from Toymaker if it's such an issue. Maybe even put fans on THAT
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:53 PM - jbigler1986: So is you main reason to go dual color?
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:54 PM - jbigler1986: He would make it himself before buying one.
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:54 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, yeah, but I also kinda just wanted to open up my printing options
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:54 PM - Bill Monroe: ok lemon, you show me how
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:55 PM - Bill Monroe: I'm just a fake engineer anyway..
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:55 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, Toymaker had the CNC set up and already made some, with the exact idea with cooling in mind, that's why I mentioned it
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:56 PM - Bill Monroe: I should do that, then I wouldnt have to use my entire machine shop
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:56 PM - Bill Monroe: sure... I'll copy someone else
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:56 PM - Bill Monroe: that's how it'd done!
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:58 PM - jbigler1986: @Lemon have you ran single bowden before
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:59 PM - insomniac_lemon: FFS Bill, not sure who pissed in your pants
Apr 27, 2015 at 6:59 PM - insomniac_lemon: jbigler1986: no, that might be an issue, but I do have my bowden stuff set up at least
    Apr 27, 2015 at 6:59 PM - Mike Glass: http://vaughnlive.tv/coolreactions
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:00 PM - jbigler1986: Running bowden you have to edit a lot of settings. It's like starting all of again
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:00 PM - jbigler1986: Over*
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:01 PM - insomniac_lemon: Well, I'll have to change a bunch of settings for the Cyclops itself already
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:03 PM - Bill Monroe: Mike is plotting again :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:04 PM - jbigler1986: Got it running Mike. Nice. Good feeling I bet
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:04 PM - Mike Glass: on a bigger scale
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:04 PM - insomniac_lemon: I mean, people do stuff. They share parts and designs.... unless you're selling something en masse it shouldn't be an issue. And not like someone can own the idea of an aluminum x-carriage
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:05 PM - Mike Glass: i speed it up to 200 and skipped a tooth
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:05 PM - Mike Glass: it so quiet with 1/32 stepping
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:05 PM - insomniac_lemon: And if you have your own shop Bill, I had no idea of knowing that...
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:06 PM - jbigler1986: Nobody owns the idea. I just said he would most likely build one himself since that's how he is. That's all
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:08 PM - jbigler1986: Wish I had the time for projects like that.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:08 PM - insomniac_lemon: No, I was talking to Bill because of his sarcastic tone. "sure, I'll copy someone else, that's how it's done!
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:08 PM - insomniac_lemon: "
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:08 PM - Bill Monroe: jb, if you make any more changes to your machine, you'd just be showing off :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:10 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah I doubt I will be changing anything else. Don't think I could get better prints even if I tried
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:10 PM - Bill Monroe: <hi-5>
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:11 PM - jbigler1986: It was 2 months of a pain in the ads though
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:11 PM - Bill Monroe: some people keep fixing a machine until it's broken
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:11 PM - jbigler1986: Fail. Ass*
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:12 PM - jbigler1986: Maybe one day I will stop breaking heat breaks.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:12 PM - Mike Glass: Im happy with my Robo after I did ziggy's stuff it rocks.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:12 PM - Bill Monroe: ziggy's stuff did nothing for me
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:13 PM - Bill Monroe: but my motors were different so....
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:13 PM - jbigler1986: Did nothing for me either
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:13 PM - Mike Glass: most of mine was just poor alignment im sure but new threaded rods made the real difference.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - Bill Monroe: mike, did your motors have the dimples in the end of the shafts?
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - Mike Glass: nope
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah my new rods were an absolute gift from God. Immediate difference
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - Bill Monroe: ya see.. cant do the ball if ya got no ho
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - Mike Glass: think mine had nipples
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - Mike Glass: and I put the bearings in mine.
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:14 PM - jbigler1986: Nipples and hoes. What's going on
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:15 PM - Bill Monroe: I just printed some plastic couplers making the holes the correct size and bingo.. no more problems
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:15 PM - Mike Glass: its amazing that 5/16 rod fits the HC and no tape.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:16 PM - Bill Monroe: oh hey.. found a good source for build glass.. bigger sizes are easy.. cheaper and higher temps
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:16 PM - jbigler1986: What price we talking
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:17 PM - Bill Monroe: well it depends on the size and it's onl cheaper if you want a sixe biggr than standard
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:17 PM - Bill Monroe: which I do :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:18 PM - Bill Monroe: it's not borosilcate (pyrex) it's more heat stable than that
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:18 PM - Bill Monroe: I dont know why I didnt think of it sooner since I have so much of it already
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:18 PM - jbigler1986: So how much for a robo size piece?
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:19 PM - Bill Monroe: dunno.. have to ask.. but it will be more than robo charges sine it's special cut
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:19 PM - Bill Monroe: I'm after 16 X 18
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:20 PM - jbigler1986: Is it more durable
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:20 PM - Bill Monroe: I dont know how to quanity it's surface harness but it's at least equal to borosilicate in that way
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:21 PM - Bill Monroe: it's more heat stable though, I can attest to that

Apr 27, 2015 at 7:21 PM - Bill Monroe: I've gotten it a LOT hotter and seen water thrown on it
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:22 PM - jbigler1986: Hmmm. I would probably just get another from Robo for my needs
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:22 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, like I said.. if you need one robo sized, fo there
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:22 PM - Bill Monroe: go there
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:23 PM - jbigler1986: Mike what pens are you using
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:23 PM - Bill Monroe: since my big machine will be intended only for ABS, I probably dont need it
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:23 PM - Bill Monroe: but I'm going to do it anyway just to have the PLA option
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:23 PM - jbigler1986: Screw abs
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:24 PM - Bill Monroe: naw.. if I did that.. there would be baby ABS that I'd have to raise.. I'll just bu it
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:24 PM - Bill Monroe: buy it
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:24 PM - jbigler1986: Lol.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:25 PM - jbigler1986: ABS stinks. Gives me a headache sometimes
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:25 PM - jbigler1986: Plus it prints as straight as Elton John
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:25 PM - Bill Monroe: it does let you know it's present
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:26 PM - Bill Monroe: you cant do ABS well on a robo, despite what anyone says
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:26 PM - Mike Glass: hmm think these are pilot g2 but loks like its starting to break down.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:27 PM - jbigler1986: You can if you prep enough for it
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:27 PM - Bill Monroe: no, you cant
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:27 PM - Bill Monroe: without a proper heat chamber.. it;s impossible
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:28 PM - Mike Glass: I love ABS and my robo, perfect prints
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:28 PM - Bill Monroe: Mike, you must not have ever used a purposr made ABS machine
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:28 PM - jbigler1986: Hence why I said prep enough
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:28 PM - Bill Monroe: when you see it, you'll see what I mean
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM - Bill Monroe: oh well, I could do surgery in space "If I Prepped enough" :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM - Mike Glass: nope just started 4 months ago, and look at me now.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM - Bill Monroe: ya! plotting bobcats! :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM - Bill Monroe: pretty though
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM - Mike Glass: milling alum soon
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:29 PM - jbigler1986: Put that thing to work mike
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:30 PM - Mike Glass: this is just burn in for the rods
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:30 PM - Mike Glass: needs about 100 hours
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:31 PM - Mike Glass: for under 5 bones this think rocks
    Apr 27, 2015 at 7:32 PM - jbigler1986: Got on overview picture
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:32 PM - Mike Glass: yea, uploading a video from my phone now to show the developer
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:35 PM - jbigler1986: I'm calling it an early night. Congrats on the multi tool Mike. Looks good
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:36 PM - Bill Monroe: ya, mee too.. I'm still recovering from racing :)
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:36 PM - Mike Glass: thanks been a long week for sure

    Apr 28, 2015 2:32 AM - bamhm182: Interesting concept, TechoSupportGo
Apr 28, 2015 2:33 AM - bamhm182: Also, insomniac, keep us posted on the Cyclops. I'm going to be going through the same changes shortly after the 6th, so I'm interested in seeing how yours goes. We might be able to work together to help each other out, even if Bill swears up and down it's impossible, haha.
    Apr 28, 2015 2:59 AM - jbigler1986: Morning. It's not impossible. It's just a huge pain and difficult
Apr 28, 2015 4:50 AM - Bill Monroe: yo yo yo...
    Apr 28, 2015 4:54 AM - jbigler1986: Just read your reply. That's a little pricey for glass
Apr 28, 2015 4:54 AM - jbigler1986: well not really glass as you said
Apr 28, 2015 4:55 AM - Bill Monroe: it is for robo replacement since they buy in quantities, probably from China
    Apr 28, 2015 4:55 AM - jbigler1986: probably
    Apr 28, 2015 4:55 AM - Bill Monroe: but it's you're building something custom like I am, it's a sweet deal
Apr 28, 2015 4:56 AM - jbigler1986: got the robo running this morning
Apr 28, 2015 4:56 AM - Bill Monroe: i didnt know it was down, what happened?
    Apr 28, 2015 4:56 AM - jbigler1986: it wasn't. i just didn't run it yesterday
Apr 28, 2015 4:57 AM - Bill Monroe: omg! a day without printing?? are you OK?
    Apr 28, 2015 5:00 AM - jbigler1986: i know. crazy
    Apr 28, 2015 5:00 AM - Bill Monroe: :)
    Apr 28, 2015 5:03 AM - jbigler1986: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jbigler1986
    Apr 28, 2015 5:04 AM - jbigler1986: uhhhhh. 1 sec
Apr 28, 2015 5:05 AM - Bill Monroe: ya feed is stopped
Apr 28, 2015 5:05 AM - jbigler1986: damn. i forgot to get my teamviewer password this morning. woops
Apr 28, 2015 5:10 AM - Bill Monroe: heh the new hairspray smell exactly the same as my dog's shampoo
    Apr 28, 2015 5:13 AM - jbigler1986: what kind is it
    Apr 28, 2015 5:13 AM - Bill Monroe: Porkie
Apr 28, 2015 5:14 AM - Bill Monroe: oh.. it's the super hold shampoo but they changed it. pink can now and it smells different.. still works good though
    Apr 28, 2015 5:14 AM - Bill Monroe: i mean hair spray :)
Apr 28, 2015 5:14 AM - Bill Monroe: ack.. i cant focus today
    Apr 28, 2015 5:16 AM - jbigler1986: that the one i use. doesn't have much of a smell
Apr 28, 2015 5:18 AM - Bill Monroe: i just compared the cans.. apparently it's just a fragrance.. purp can say unscented.. white/pink can says fresh scent
Apr 28, 2015 5:19 AM - Bill Monroe: the rest is identical
Apr 28, 2015 5:19 AM - Bill Monroe: heating up for some more bronzefill
    Apr 28, 2015 5:21 AM - Bill Monroe: and we're off!
    Apr 28, 2015 5:21 AM - jbigler1986: stream
Apr 28, 2015 5:21 AM - Bill Monroe: ok stand by
    Apr 28, 2015 5:25 AM - Bill Monroe: http://vaughnlive.tv/socalplanedoc
    Apr 28, 2015 5:29 AM - jbigler1986: what are you making
Apr 28, 2015 5:31 AM - Bill Monroe: a part for my dual nozzle design
Apr 28, 2015 5:31 AM - Bill Monroe: i discovered the bronzefill, along with looking pretty when polished, make awesome parts for small mechanisms.. very easy to machine
Apr 28, 2015 5:33 AM - Bill Monroe: the filmament is brittle though, doesnt tolerate rough handling
    Apr 28, 2015 5:34 AM - jbigler1986: before printed?
Apr 28, 2015 5:34 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. uber-fast retraction has snapped it too
    Apr 28, 2015 5:35 AM - Bill Monroe: you like uber-fast retraction :)
Apr 28, 2015 5:36 AM - Stephen Capistron: I am in the middle of reading an article about a 3D print conference that was in Jacksonville. One of the vendors uses beer instead of hairspray on the build plate
Apr 28, 2015 5:36 AM - Bill Monroe: well, I like the idea but, doesnt seem all that effective :)
    Apr 28, 2015 5:37 AM - jbigler1986: plus seems like more of a mess
Apr 28, 2015 5:37 AM - Bill Monroe: could be just pulling someone's leg?
Apr 28, 2015 5:38 AM - Bill Monroe: lets start telling everyone we discovered the best thing to use is.. umm asparagus juice
    Apr 28, 2015 5:38 AM - Bill Monroe: then we'll put a juicer on the market :)
Apr 28, 2015 5:38 AM - Stephen Capistron: everyone knows broccoli juice blows asparagus out of the water
Apr 28, 2015 5:39 AM - Bill Monroe: oh man.. i gotta make a shopping list
Apr 28, 2015 5:40 AM - Bill Monroe: polynesian cumquats.. my secret weapon of success
    Apr 28, 2015 5:40 AM - jbigler1986: i'm a vegan so both sounds delicious
Apr 28, 2015 5:40 AM - Bill Monroe: distilled used onion ring oil from Burger king
Apr 28, 2015 5:41 AM - jbigler1986: that is what i use to run my car
Apr 28, 2015 5:41 AM - Bill Monroe: mixed with warm aspertame
Apr 28, 2015 5:41 AM - Bill Monroe: hahah i actually tried it in the 80s in my diesel VW pickup... it worked!
Apr 28, 2015 5:42 AM - Stephen Capistron: the old diesels run surprisingly well on cooking oil
Apr 28, 2015 5:42 AM - Bill Monroe: i wished they still made that engine.. bullet proof, cheap and 55 mpg
    Apr 28, 2015 5:43 AM - Bill Monroe: i Loved that car
Apr 28, 2015 5:44 AM - Bill Monroe: you could get the oil free in those days.. since then they discovered it's value
Apr 28, 2015 5:44 AM - Bill Monroe: i'll bet I did 15k miles on onion ring oil
Apr 28, 2015 5:45 AM - Bill Monroe: and yes, it smelled like onion rings :)
Apr 28, 2015 5:45 AM - Stephen Capistron: with modern engines you really need to mix it with a little ethanol or methanol to make it useful
Apr 28, 2015 5:45 AM - Bill Monroe: ok, I'm sold, I'm getting a reel of this bronzefill
Apr 28, 2015 5:45 AM - Stephen Capistron: printing all nice?
Apr 28, 2015 5:46 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, it's exactly like PLA but it makes superior small mechanical parts that are zer easy to machine
Apr 28, 2015 5:46 AM - Bill Monroe: i got a smaple pack from matt.. it's almost gone
Apr 28, 2015 5:46 AM - Bill Monroe: err sample
    Apr 28, 2015 5:46 AM - Bill Monroe: http://vaughnlive.tv/socalplanedoc
Apr 28, 2015 5:52 AM - JeffTheMess: Bill you should do a live feed of you flying around give us a tour
Apr 28, 2015 5:53 AM - JeffTheMess: good morning Robonauts
Apr 28, 2015 5:53 AM - Bill Monroe: gads.. umm i dunno how to do the downlink
Apr 28, 2015 5:53 AM - Bill Monroe: i've got a video in youetube though
    Apr 28, 2015 5:54 AM - jbigler1986: Jeff did you get s3d going
    Apr 28, 2015 5:54 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah I printed something through s3d
Apr 28, 2015 5:55 AM - JeffTheMess: it was via usb it was a quick print half hour
Apr 28, 2015 5:55 AM - JeffTheMess: the real test will be my bigger prints
Apr 28, 2015 5:55 AM - jbigler1986: at least you got it working. now get a lcd and remove that cable
    Apr 28, 2015 5:56 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah
Apr 28, 2015 5:56 AM - JeffTheMess: I know I can print through sd card and be able to pause the sd card print through s3d, (until i get a lcd)
    Apr 28, 2015 5:57 AM - jbigler1986: pretty sure you can
Apr 28, 2015 5:57 AM - JeffTheMess: or i can matter touch lol
    Apr 28, 2015 5:57 AM - Bill Monroe: *faint*
Apr 28, 2015 5:58 AM - jbigler1986: haha. i would never speak to you again
Apr 28, 2015 5:58 AM - Bill Monroe: sorry.. I do that whenever I think about mattercrapper.. uhh mattercrud... uhhh what's it called again?
Apr 28, 2015 5:58 AM - JeffTheMess: i wouldn't get it unless robo donates to me (then ill just reboot it and give it to my daughter to play games)
Apr 28, 2015 6:00 AM - JeffTheMess: you think somewhere out there they sell a dual extruder already "cooked up" for the robo?
Apr 28, 2015 6:01 AM - jbigler1986: to much time and money for that. wouldn't be enough return
    Apr 28, 2015 6:01 AM - Bill Monroe: <biting tongue>
Apr 28, 2015 6:01 AM - JeffTheMess: i get jealous every time i see Bills setup
    Apr 28, 2015 6:03 AM - jbigler1986: what for
    Apr 28, 2015 6:03 AM - Bill Monroe: huh?
Apr 28, 2015 6:03 AM - Bill Monroe: ine's nothing to be jealous about
    Apr 28, 2015 6:03 AM - jbigler1986: that was @jeff
Apr 28, 2015 6:04 AM - JeffTheMess: support, a lot of what i make will have hard to reach areas to rip support out
Apr 28, 2015 6:04 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, that's my goal too
Apr 28, 2015 6:05 AM - Bill Monroe: it's not as easy as the vendors and those-who've-yet-to-try-it want you believe
Apr 28, 2015 6:05 AM - jbigler1986: bill is only running one of his nozzles though. right Bill?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:06 AM - Bill Monroe: yup
Apr 28, 2015 6:06 AM - Bill Monroe: see, I want to make parts.. not fiddle with the nozzles
Apr 28, 2015 6:07 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, i dont care how good your support is in a software, but when you have to remove it it becomes a pain
    Apr 28, 2015 6:07 AM - jbigler1986: i don't mind removing support

Apr 28, 2015 6:07 AM - Bill Monroe: in my opinion, if you cant set it up once and run it without issues, it hasnt met the claims made. failure.
Apr 28, 2015 6:08 AM - JeffTheMess: ill show an example hold on
Apr 28, 2015 6:08 AM - Bill Monroe: I have two pro machines - admins and interns make perfect parts on those.. and they dont have a clue how it works. that's success
    Apr 28, 2015 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
    Apr 28, 2015 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
    Apr 28, 2015 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: [IMG]
Apr 28, 2015 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: inside the apple will be filled with support it will be hard to remove all the support
Apr 28, 2015 6:09 AM - Bill Monroe: yow! dream big eh Jeff? :)
Apr 28, 2015 6:10 AM - Bill Monroe: artist thing? New York?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:10 AM - jbigler1986: that's gonna be a pain to print
Apr 28, 2015 6:10 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah its home for my new york
Apr 28, 2015 6:10 AM - Bill Monroe: yabut.. a lost PLA poured and polished in bronze..
Apr 28, 2015 6:10 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah i know it will be but gonna be fun
Apr 28, 2015 6:11 AM - Bill Monroe: i'll keep my extruders crossed for ya :)
Apr 28, 2015 6:11 AM - Stephen Capistron: just don't cross the streams
    Apr 28, 2015 6:12 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, I'd need a 60's cadillac amulance
Apr 28, 2015 6:14 AM - Bill Monroe: that model must have taken you a bit of work
Apr 28, 2015 6:15 AM - Bill Monroe: the eyes make it look creepy
Apr 28, 2015 6:15 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, i learned how to use blender in a few days for that idea,
Apr 28, 2015 6:15 AM - JeffTheMess: i dont think cad would have done that well
Apr 28, 2015 6:15 AM - Bill Monroe: How big?
Apr 28, 2015 6:17 AM - JeffTheMess: about 5" tall 3"wide, you cant really measure with blender, it sucks for 3d printing unless you are really good
Apr 28, 2015 6:17 AM - jbigler1986: you could just add a few pillars inside for the bridging. doesn't have to be completely filled with support
Apr 28, 2015 6:18 AM - Bill Monroe: might be easier to do it in two pieces.. seperate the city from the apple and insert it when done
Apr 28, 2015 6:19 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah that was my original idea but when design in blender, you forget its not a cad program it will take awhile to get the city out
    Apr 28, 2015 6:20 AM - Bill Monroe: gotcha
Apr 28, 2015 6:20 AM - Bill Monroe: i like it.. dont give up
Apr 28, 2015 6:20 AM - JeffTheMess: i might scale it down give it a try not to waste too much filament then ill got big
Apr 28, 2015 6:20 AM - jbigler1986: i like it as well. i would manually add support in s3d for it.
Apr 28, 2015 6:21 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah thanks, i hope it will work
Apr 28, 2015 6:22 AM - jbigler1986: or let s3d add the support the remove a bunch of it
Apr 28, 2015 6:25 AM - Bill Monroe: here's an off-topic thought.. in that Sheeran tune "thinking out loud" what happens when he hits 71?
Apr 28, 2015 6:25 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, i should get my filament tomorrow so i hope to show you the results soon
Apr 28, 2015 6:25 AM - jbigler1986: i have no clue what you are talking about
    Apr 28, 2015 6:26 AM - jbigler1986: ur part is done
Apr 28, 2015 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: thanks JB
    Apr 28, 2015 6:26 AM - jbigler1986: np
Apr 28, 2015 6:27 AM - Bill Monroe: we were practicing it last night and when our guy hit that line I got distracted thinking about it :)
Apr 28, 2015 6:28 AM - jbigler1986: man i wanted to watch my printer today. print something else Bill
Apr 28, 2015 6:28 AM - Bill Monroe: heh I got nothing else to make at the moment
Apr 28, 2015 6:28 AM - Bill Monroe: hey, is the feed jerly like it has bandwidh issues?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:29 AM - jbigler1986: seems fine
Apr 28, 2015 6:29 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. thanks
Apr 28, 2015 6:29 AM - JeffTheMess: looks good on my crappy end :)
Apr 28, 2015 6:29 AM - Bill Monroe: go listen to the sheeran tune.. it's pretty nice
    Apr 28, 2015 6:30 AM - jbigler1986: will do
Apr 28, 2015 6:31 AM - jbigler1986: i'm reprinting a few parts and finishing that "Vend" now that my printer is dialed in
Apr 28, 2015 6:31 AM - Bill Monroe: right now, it's played at every 20-something wedding
Apr 28, 2015 6:40 AM - JeffTheMess: anybody know if mike k been on?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:40 AM - jbigler1986: he is in Boston
Apr 28, 2015 6:41 AM - JeffTheMess: oh ok cool
Apr 28, 2015 6:41 AM - JeffTheMess: anybody have knowledge of electric actuators?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:41 AM - jbigler1986: bill probably does
    Apr 28, 2015 6:41 AM - jbigler1986: or toy
Apr 28, 2015 6:42 AM - JeffTheMess: i want to print one, to see if it will work
Apr 28, 2015 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: print an electric one?
Apr 28, 2015 6:42 AM - Stephen Capistron: i know some stuff about electric actuators
Apr 28, 2015 6:43 AM - JeffTheMess: well using an electric motor but everything else printed
Apr 28, 2015 6:43 AM - JeffTheMess: you think its possible?
Apr 28, 2015 6:43 AM - jbigler1986: forgot you were here SC. my bad
Apr 28, 2015 6:44 AM - Stephen Capistron: sure it is possible. strength might be an issue
    Apr 28, 2015 6:45 AM - jbigler1986: print it in a strong material
Apr 28, 2015 6:45 AM - JeffTheMess: i know it won't push or pull as much as your an expensive one but it would be cheaper to make some fun stuff
Apr 28, 2015 6:46 AM - Stephen Capistron: repeatability / precision will also be poor relative to something made from metal
    Apr 28, 2015 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: a solenoid type?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: oh.. you mean a screw-drive?
Apr 28, 2015 6:46 AM - Stephen Capistron: All you would really be printing is your own lead screw and nut
Apr 28, 2015 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: how much travel?
    Apr 28, 2015 6:47 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah screw drive....just 4-5 inches
Apr 28, 2015 6:47 AM - Stephen Capistron: off the shelf stuff for that is pretty cheap
    Apr 28, 2015 6:47 AM - JeffTheMess:
Apr 28, 2015 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe: ya I agree with Steve you can fab one up with shelf parts.. maybe print the mount, support, and coupler
Apr 28, 2015 6:47 AM - JeffTheMess: something fun like this
    Apr 28, 2015 6:49 AM - Stephen Capistron: http://www.mcmaster.com/#91309a566/=wy5oms
Apr 28, 2015 6:50 AM - Stephen Capistron: Only advantage to printing your own screws would really be to play with the pitch on them to something rather aggressive.
Apr 28, 2015 6:51 AM - JeffTheMess: great, thanks Stephen
    Apr 28, 2015 6:52 AM - Bill Monroe: i'm and idiot
    Apr 28, 2015 6:52 AM - Bill Monroe: an
Apr 28, 2015 6:52 AM - JeffTheMess: no your smart bill
Apr 28, 2015 6:52 AM - Stephen Capistron: a 1/4-20 screw is going to be in the same neighborhood of speed as those on the robo
Apr 28, 2015 6:52 AM - JeffTheMess: yo can fly a freaking plane!
Apr 28, 2015 6:52 AM - Bill Monroe: i've been fighint a problem for weeks and I just figured out the solution.. way simple

Apr 28, 2015 9:47 AM - Printed Solid: certainly not whole pieces, but it might make sense to print pieces.
Apr 28, 2015 9:47 AM - Printed Solid: especially if you're coming up with some unique part that enables quicker assembly.
Apr 28, 2015 9:47 AM - Printed Solid: Yeah, an entire piece of furniture 3D printed is going to be art museum stuff.

Apr 28, 2015 10:18 AM - JasonSolves: there was a lot of plastic up in there
Apr 28, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Glass: you need that
Apr 28, 2015 10:18 AM - jbigler1986: if there was plastic in there your nozzle is loose
Apr 28, 2015 10:18 AM - JasonSolves: yeah, that is how I got to .75
Apr 28, 2015 10:19 AM - jbigler1986: are you doing the autolevel wizard?
Apr 28, 2015 10:19 AM - JasonSolves: why do I need the rubber?
Apr 28, 2015 10:19 AM - JasonSolves: every print it re does it
Apr 28, 2015 10:20 AM - jbigler1986: you don't need the rubber boot. It insulates and holds the thermistor in place. It's not needed though
Apr 28, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Glass: just depends on what fans you have
Apr 28, 2015 10:20 AM - Bill Monroe: nothing can replace making sure everything is level, square, and tram
Apr 28, 2015 10:20 AM - JasonSolves: yup, I will go through it again
Apr 28, 2015 10:20 AM - JasonSolves: but this print is working
    Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - jbigler1986: i'm confused
Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Glass: doesnt look like its wroking
Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - JasonSolves: I need to get some done for my son's school project
Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - JasonSolves: that was yesterday
Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - JasonSolves: JB asked to what issue I had
Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - jbigler1986: you said it was good then it wasn't
Apr 28, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Glass: and you changed nothing?
Apr 28, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Glass: speed? temp?
Apr 28, 2015 10:22 AM - JasonSolves: I think the biggest thing is I picked some prints with less base
    Apr 28, 2015 10:22 AM - JasonSolves: I did raise the temp
Apr 28, 2015 10:22 AM - JasonSolves: but when I have a smaller base it seems to printer better
    Apr 28, 2015 10:23 AM - jbigler1986: sounds like you aren't level
    Apr 28, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: yup
Apr 28, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: run autoleve command a few times
Apr 28, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: sometimes it takes 10 times to get true
Apr 28, 2015 10:24 AM - JasonSolves: I will go through it again
Apr 28, 2015 10:24 AM - JasonSolves: that does make a lot of sense
Apr 28, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Glass: just run from a command window
Apr 28, 2015 10:24 AM - Bill Monroe: wait.. autolevel doesnt level it.. it compensates
    Apr 28, 2015 10:24 AM - JasonSolves: [IMG]
Apr 28, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Glass: or the ponterface
Apr 28, 2015 10:25 AM - Mike Glass: too low
    Apr 28, 2015 10:25 AM - JasonSolves: [IMG]
Apr 28, 2015 10:26 AM - jbigler1986: do the paper level. move the x axis to the left side. them move the threaded rod until you get a tiny bit of resistance on the paper. then slide the carriage to the right. do the same. except this time when you move the rod on the right you hold the rod on the left side and don't let it move. Then go back to the left side. Move the left rod while holding the right side rod. Keep going back and forth until you get the same resistance on both sides
Apr 28, 2015 10:27 AM - JasonSolves: I am going to let this snake print
Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - JeffTheMess: jason, using mattercontrol?
Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - JasonSolves: then I will clean and run the auto level
    Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - JasonSolves: no Cura
Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - JasonSolves: have not had a lot of success in MC
    Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - jbigler1986: don't do the autolevel. Do what I said
    Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - JasonSolves: that is what i Mean
    Apr 28, 2015 10:28 AM - jbigler1986: ok.
    Apr 28, 2015 10:29 AM - JasonSolves: After I do your thing
Apr 28, 2015 10:29 AM - JasonSolves: I might do the auto too, that could not hurt, right?
Apr 28, 2015 10:29 AM - JeffTheMess: doing what jb said manually can fix alot of the error u may face
Apr 28, 2015 10:30 AM - JasonSolves: cool, be back in a bit, with an update
Apr 28, 2015 10:30 AM - Bill Monroe: Jason Solved It
Apr 28, 2015 10:32 AM - jbigler1986: that's how I solved my level issues. I do it every once in a while and I have had 0 issues
Apr 28, 2015 10:32 AM - Mike Glass: I would still like to find out how to get a print exact center on the robo.
Apr 28, 2015 10:33 AM - Mike Glass: must have to use the offset command
Apr 28, 2015 10:33 AM - Bill Monroe: yup.. I spent a weekend making my totally level and square.. now I dont use the autolevel at all
Apr 28, 2015 10:33 AM - Mike Glass: no G29 in your gcode?
Apr 28, 2015 10:33 AM - Bill Monroe: ya mike.. the limit switches arent in the perfect spot so, offsets are in order.. very common with robotics
Apr 28, 2015 10:35 AM - Mike Glass: I am going to use Mikes Autolevel on the cnc
Apr 28, 2015 10:35 AM - jbigler1986: i check with a dial indicator just to make sure she is good too
Apr 28, 2015 10:35 AM - Mike Glass: ohh that right I need to make the dial holder
Apr 28, 2015 10:36 AM - Bill Monroe: you know how to tram a mill?
Apr 28, 2015 10:36 AM - Mike Glass: I bought a new one with a stand so I can use it on my saws also.
Apr 28, 2015 10:36 AM - Mike Glass: that just flattens the surface right?
Apr 28, 2015 10:37 AM - Bill Monroe: nono basic mill setup stuff.. ya make a holder for a dial that mounts in the chuck
Apr 28, 2015 10:37 AM - Bill Monroe: hang on
    Apr 28, 2015 10:38 AM - Bill Monroe: http://www.cnccookbook.com/CCMillTramming.html
Apr 28, 2015 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: machinist apprentices used to get this instruction in the first few weeks
Apr 28, 2015 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: build it nice, you'll use it a lot
Apr 28, 2015 10:39 AM - Bill Monroe: IF, you want to do nice work :)
    Apr 28, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Glass: something else I need to retrofit..woot
Apr 28, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Glass: It will be interesting to see how true the bed is.
Apr 28, 2015 10:41 AM - Mike Glass: or whatever you call it in the cnc world
Apr 28, 2015 10:41 AM - Bill Monroe: it can be a tedious process and you'll hate it sometimes... until you run a large facing tool across your work and see the result
Apr 28, 2015 10:41 AM - Bill Monroe: true.. tram.. either is OK
Apr 28, 2015 10:42 AM - Bill Monroe: true is kinda like flatness
Apr 28, 2015 10:42 AM - Bill Monroe: did you design-in some adjustable feet for your piggyback table?
Apr 28, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Glass: no, not yet, I am going to be taking a welding class, so I thought I could design something before I take the class, then you can build anything you like. A metal table for the cnc will be my choice.
    Apr 28, 2015 10:45 AM - jbigler1986: welding class? who needs that
Apr 28, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Glass: Then make some kind adjustable z height pillars.
Apr 28, 2015 10:47 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. I believe you'll need it to make sure your table parallel to the machine's
Apr 28, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: I do, cause you get to use the cool cnc metal cutters, lathes, stuff I dont have, its like $180 for 2 months of classes.
Apr 28, 2015 10:48 AM - Bill Monroe: was it you that had a freind with a monster durface grinder?
Apr 28, 2015 10:48 AM - Bill Monroe: err surface
Apr 28, 2015 10:49 AM - Mike Glass: Twasnt me.
Apr 28, 2015 10:49 AM - jbigler1986: well in that case have fun. welding itself isn't too difficult
Apr 28, 2015 10:49 AM - Bill Monroe: oh pity.. that would be awesome
Apr 28, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: I know it aint, I have weling equipment, but for free use of tools and learn to tig, and stick also.
Apr 28, 2015 10:50 AM - jbigler1986: bill, how long before we get to see your secret to the carriage
Apr 28, 2015 10:51 AM - Bill Monroe: wish I could say.. C++ classes are taking more homework time than I thought (professor is brutal).. wife wants me home more, etc..etc..
Apr 28, 2015 10:51 AM - Bill Monroe: and I kinda tweaked the design again.. not happy how it was working
    Apr 28, 2015 10:51 AM - jbigler1986: so eta 2017?
Apr 28, 2015 10:52 AM - Bill Monroe: heh I sure hope not
    Apr 28, 2015 10:52 AM - Mike Glass: Dec, 1st?
Apr 28, 2015 10:52 AM - Bill Monroe: sometimes I want to trash the idea and jump with to the dual carriage solution
Apr 28, 2015 10:53 AM - Bill Monroe: "the final solution"
Apr 28, 2015 10:53 AM - Bill Monroe: but I'm not there yet.. I'd like to leave you guys with a robo-fittable design
Apr 28, 2015 10:57 AM - Bill Monroe: I was successful with a dual that doesnt butter-knife and had individual height adjustment.. but it took some finesse to adjust it..
Apr 28, 2015 10:58 AM - Bill Monroe: i like that it doesnt require *any* electrical or arduino changes

Apr 28, 2015 11:29 AM - jbigler1986: gonna print another holder for the other side so it will be easy to switch.
Apr 28, 2015 11:30 AM - jbigler1986: might be able to print a bowden mount for the desk too
    Apr 28, 2015 11:31 AM - jbigler1986: where is yours located?
Apr 28, 2015 11:32 AM - Bill Monroe: my extruder?
    Apr 28, 2015 11:32 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Apr 28, 2015 11:32 AM - Bill Monroe: i hung it on the end.. left side as you're looking at it
Apr 28, 2015 11:33 AM - Bill Monroe: goes up, then makes a 180 degree turn back to the carriage
Apr 28, 2015 11:33 AM - Mike Glass: that is a hell of a tool holder
    Apr 28, 2015 11:33 AM - jbigler1986: u see i fixed it
Apr 28, 2015 11:33 AM - Mike Glass: looks real nice
Apr 28, 2015 11:34 AM - Mike Glass: I need to print mine with some real filament, I have some hatchbox clear.
Apr 28, 2015 11:35 AM - Bill Monroe: hatchbox comes in clear?
    Apr 28, 2015 11:35 AM - jbigler1986: shaxon natural is what i used
Apr 28, 2015 11:35 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.,, that looks clear at first.. then take on a nifty glow
Apr 28, 2015 11:36 AM - Mike Glass: err maybe it was justpla ..
Apr 28, 2015 11:36 AM - Bill Monroe: I was thinking about making my carriage with it, they burying some leds in it
Apr 28, 2015 11:36 AM - Mike Glass: or I can do it in Taulman t-glase
Apr 28, 2015 11:36 AM - Mike Glass: ok off to a meeting.
Apr 28, 2015 11:37 AM - Mike Glass: did you guys see this.
    Apr 28, 2015 11:37 AM - jbigler1986: who is that
    Apr 28, 2015 11:38 AM - jbigler1986: i remember seeing that
Apr 28, 2015 11:44 AM - Bill Monroe: nice avatar
    Apr 28, 2015 11:45 AM - jbigler1986: lol
Apr 28, 2015 11:46 AM - jbigler1986: "just went out and got the PTFE tube but it doesnt fit into the hole on the heatsink did i buy the wrong printhead?"
Apr 28, 2015 11:46 AM - Bill Monroe: who said that?
    Apr 28, 2015 11:46 AM - jbigler1986: i told this person the exact diameter 2mm inside and 4mm outside

Apr 28, 2015 11:48 AM - Bill Monroe: tell him he was issued the wrong head
Apr 28, 2015 11:48 AM - Bill Monroe: i know someone who bought poly tube cux it was cheaper.. actually work but not well
    Apr 28, 2015 11:49 AM - Bill Monroe: maybe he's got a 3mm heatsink
    Apr 28, 2015 11:49 AM - jbigler1986: maybe
Apr 28, 2015 11:50 AM - Bill Monroe: i once bought some 3mm filament by mistake
Apr 28, 2015 11:50 AM - Bill Monroe: actually worked pretty good on my weedwacker
Apr 28, 2015 11:51 AM - jbigler1986: yeah 3mm filament is understandable. but 3mm e3d you should check like 5 times before hitting submit
Apr 28, 2015 11:54 AM - Bill Monroe: I dont wack weeds anymore
Apr 28, 2015 12:14 PM - Bill Monroe: man, almost done with this machine...
    Apr 28, 2015 12:16 PM - jbigler1986: what machine
    Apr 28, 2015 12:16 PM - jbigler1986: concrete?
Apr 28, 2015 12:17 PM - Bill Monroe: eh.. will be used to assemble a new product in our plant in Mexico.. started off simple, then a lot of marketing, manfacturing engineers and varisou and sundry unqualified people got involved
Apr 28, 2015 12:18 PM - Bill Monroe: I want to release the parts to our machine shop before I take PTO
Apr 28, 2015 12:19 PM - Bill Monroe: concrete machine is tempting :) i might do it after I retire so I have my machine shop to do it
Apr 28, 2015 12:20 PM - Bill Monroe: 2.0 pointed out it'll be a huge version of the cupcake decorator I made 10 years ago
    Apr 28, 2015 12:20 PM - jbigler1986: cupcakes. yay
Apr 28, 2015 12:21 PM - Bill Monroe: I do have Donel designing the screw though..
    Apr 28, 2015 12:34 PM - jbigler1986:
Apr 28, 2015 12:38 PM - Stephen Capistron: concrete machine should be gravity feed
Apr 28, 2015 12:40 PM - jbigler1986: where is the fun in that
    Apr 28, 2015 12:55 PM - JasonSolves: ok JB
Apr 28, 2015 12:55 PM - JasonSolves: snake finished, looks pretty good
Apr 28, 2015 12:55 PM - JasonSolves: I will be doing the JB Calibrate now
    Apr 28, 2015 12:56 PM - jbigler1986: ok
Apr 28, 2015 1:02 PM - Bill Monroe: cant control extrusion with gravity feed plus.. way too high
Apr 28, 2015 1:05 PM - JasonSolves: seems that front to back it not "level"
Apr 28, 2015 1:05 PM - JasonSolves: but side to side was a little off, but is good now
Apr 28, 2015 1:07 PM - jbigler1986: don't worry about front to back that much. autolevel should fix that
Apr 28, 2015 1:07 PM - JasonSolves: the auto level that starts each print
Apr 28, 2015 1:07 PM - JasonSolves: or the "First run wizard"
Apr 28, 2015 1:08 PM - jbigler1986: auto level at the start of a print
Apr 28, 2015 1:09 PM - JasonSolves: cool, ok I did you stuff and now am going to print a cat
    Apr 28, 2015 1:09 PM - JasonSolves: I will let you know
    Apr 28, 2015 1:09 PM - jbigler1986: ok
Apr 28, 2015 1:11 PM - jbigler1986: still may need to adjust offset
    Apr 28, 2015 1:12 PM - jbigler1986: https://myminifactory.com/object/buster-sword-full-scale-3155
Apr 28, 2015 1:13 PM - jbigler1986: how long on the robo do you think that would take
    Apr 28, 2015 1:22 PM - JasonSolves: assuming 100% good prints?
Apr 28, 2015 1:23 PM - JasonSolves: one of those photos shows 10% infil

Apr 28, 2015 1:23 PM - JasonSolves: seems like about 20 hours per triple part print
    Apr 28, 2015 1:24 PM - JasonSolves: so 15 parts / 3 or 5 big prints
    Apr 28, 2015 1:24 PM - JasonSolves: so a week or so
    Apr 28, 2015 1:25 PM - jbigler1986: did that fix work?
Apr 28, 2015 1:25 PM - JasonSolves: this is my first try at Raft, I kinda like it
Apr 28, 2015 1:25 PM - JasonSolves: it is printing well
Apr 28, 2015 1:26 PM - JasonSolves: it seems better
Apr 28, 2015 1:26 PM - JasonSolves: I mean that even the first layer of raft looks good
    Apr 28, 2015 1:27 PM - jbigler1986: good
Apr 28, 2015 1:28 PM - JasonSolves: I also noticed when I was doing the paper deal
Apr 28, 2015 1:28 PM - JasonSolves: that the center seems a little lower than the sides
Apr 28, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: just do that paper level ever so often
Apr 28, 2015 1:28 PM - JasonSolves: just no resisitance at home center
    Apr 28, 2015 2:15 PM - Bill Monroe: back

Apr 28, 2015 4:45 PM - bamhm182: Either way, mouser has thousands of fans and you can sort them by CFM and dB. I personally prefer to go a little quieter as long as I can maintain a decent temperature
    Apr 28, 2015 4:45 PM - bamhm182: http://www.mouser.com/Thermal-Management/Fans-Blowers/Fans/_/N-cic3o?P=1yww2yjZ1yww2zcZ1yww2y6

Apr 28, 2015 6:14 PM - bamhm182: It's a good stepping stone though. Good experience that easily transfers directly to the outside and people love to hire military

Apr 28, 2015 7:31 PM - jbigler1986: changed it from .8 to .6. lets see what shows on lcd
    Apr 28, 2015 7:41 PM - jbigler1986: about to reflash firmware
Apr 28, 2015 7:43 PM - jbigler1986: wtf. changed offset to stock 1 and that seems good. interesting
Apr 28, 2015 7:45 PM - Mike Glass: It reverted back to the old code..lol
    Apr 28, 2015 7:46 PM - jbigler1986: no i changed it to M565 Z-1 from Z-.5
    Apr 28, 2015 7:46 PM - jbigler1986: in cura
    Apr 28, 2015 7:46 PM - jbigler1986: like i don't need to adjust offset. hmm
Apr 28, 2015 7:48 PM - Mike Glass: maybe your threaded rods grew
    Apr 28, 2015 7:49 PM - jbigler1986: weird. testing it with s3d at -1
    Apr 28, 2015 7:50 PM - jbigler1986: looks good
    Apr 28, 2015 7:51 PM - jbigler1986: i guess that's a good thing
Apr 28, 2015 7:52 PM - Mike Glass: hmm, I dont know what to print

Apr 28, 2015 7:53 PM - Mike Glass: I need to make a dial indicator mount, thats right
Apr 28, 2015 7:54 PM - jbigler1986: i am restarting the vend project. i never finished it and haven't printed any of it since I installed the new rods
Apr 28, 2015 7:54 PM - Mike Glass: I was thinking about that today, do you think it would work with hot tomolies?
Apr 28, 2015 7:55 PM - jbigler1986: yep. the drum is big enough
Apr 28, 2015 7:56 PM - jbigler1986: gonna print everything with .4 nozzle. the main body is going to take like 30 hours
Apr 28, 2015 7:58 PM - Mike Glass: holy hell, Wonder if a .5 would work good
Apr 28, 2015 8:01 PM - jbigler1986: probably. i did it with .6 and it came out pretty good.
    Apr 28, 2015 8:01 PM - jbigler1986: took like 18 hours i think
    Apr 28, 2015 8:07 PM - jbigler1986: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/jbigler1986

    Apr 28, 2015 8:21 PM - jbigler1986: horrible quality right now
Apr 28, 2015 8:28 PM - Mike Glass: stream is not backup
    Apr 28, 2015 8:29 PM - jbigler1986: piece of shit

    Apr 29, 2015 at 4:53 AM - jbigler1986: it's actually working now. lol
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:53 AM - Bill Monroe: you had trouble?
    Apr 29, 2015 at 4:53 AM - jbigler1986: with my camera yeah
    Apr 29, 2015 at 4:53 AM - jbigler1986: oh and the robo
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:53 AM - Bill Monroe: ah
    Apr 29, 2015 at 4:53 AM - jbigler1986: the offset too
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:54 AM - Bill Monroe: position on the table?
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:55 AM - jbigler1986: back right magnet wasn't in the hole at all. popped it in. then i had to change offset to 1 for it to work
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:56 AM - jbigler1986: then it still was perfect. after about another 30 minutes I decided to make sure all the magnets were seated. then back left one wasn't completely seated either. doh
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:56 AM - jbigler1986: offset went from .5 to .7 after all was said and done
Apr 29, 2015 at 4:59 AM - Bill Monroe: makes sense.. didnt you notice the z moving like crazy?
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:00 AM - jbigler1986: it wasn't actually
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:01 AM - jbigler1986: although i didn't print anything tall for a few days
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:01 AM - Bill Monroe: interesting
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:02 AM - jbigler1986: i was just doing my normal paper test that i do once a week or so when i noticed the bed
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:02 AM - Stephen Capistron: I don't like how the bed is attached. It is too constrained in those little holes in the X and Y
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:05 AM - Bill Monroe: the more current machines use magnets
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:05 AM - jbigler1986: mine yas magnets
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:05 AM - jbigler1986: uhh has
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:11 AM - Stephen Capistron: i have the magnets too
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:12 AM - Stephen Capistron: i just get the sense that they don't allow for thermal expansion and such because they mate with other magnets that are recessed
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:12 AM - Bill Monroe: woohoo!! we're all magnetic
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:12 AM - Bill Monroe: there is precious little thermal expansion with borosilicate
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:13 AM - Bill Monroe: if it had any to speak of, it would have cracked long ago
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:15 AM - jbigler1986: I need to just double check those damn things more often
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:24 AM - jbigler1986: forgot how good parts look with .4 nozzle. had the .6 on for a few weeks
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:35 AM - jbigler1986: anybody tried sunwin filament or esun
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:37 AM - Stephen Capistron: i have a roll of esun petg hooked up right now
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:38 AM - jbigler1986: any good?
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:38 AM - Stephen Capistron: it is better than ABS that is for sure
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:38 AM - jbigler1986: lol
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:38 AM - jbigler1986: Hatchbox is out of stock of white and frys didn't have any in stock either
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:39 AM - jbigler1986: so looking at alternatives on amazon
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:39 AM - Stephen Capistron: It prints nice and the parts seem quite strong. People say it is one of the strongest out there, but until i see numbers i have no idea
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:40 AM - Stephen Capistron: i've been messing around with a large print that has a narrow tower in it. The large base comes out super nice.
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:40 AM - Stephen Capistron: the tower sticking up, not so much
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:40 AM - Stephen Capistron: i'm guessing that the layer time just isn't enough
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:40 AM - jbigler1986: what is wrong with the tower?
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:41 AM - Stephen Capistron: just looks different / worse than the rest of the part
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:44 AM - Stephen Capistron: oh and petg is hydrophobic and summer is coming so ....
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:45 AM - jbigler1986: idk what that means
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:46 AM - Stephen Capistron: pla, abs, etc absorb water from the air
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:46 AM - Stephen Capistron: and it makes them print like crap
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:46 AM - Stephen Capistron: PETG will hold up to the humidity of summer a lot better
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:47 AM - jbigler1986: ahh. gotcha
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:47 AM - jbigler1986: what are the print temps
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:48 AM - Stephen Capistron: i've got mine running at 235 and 80
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:48 AM - Stephen Capistron: i might kick the bed up a touch more or try and fine tune in my offset better
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:50 AM - Stephen Capistron: PETG will clog much easier than pla if you are too close to the bed. I've had some pla prints where i was so close that more or less nothing was coming out for parts of the first layer and it would not clog. PETG is less forgiving
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:51 AM - jbigler1986: offset was driving me nuts last night
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:51 AM - jbigler1986: thinking about the zen toolworks wood filament
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:52 AM - Stephen Capistron: i've been getting into the habbit of running G29 before prints a series of times just to make sure i'm happy with the flatness
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:52 AM - Stephen Capistron: pretty sure zen is just rebranding someone elses. not sure who though
    Apr 29, 2015 at 5:54 AM - jbigler1986: $40 for 1kg seems like a good price on wood filament
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:58 AM - Stephen Capistron: i have a roll of the colorfabb that i haven't touched yet
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:58 AM - Stephen Capistron: from what i remember i bigger nozzle will be more forgiving with all of the food fills
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:59 AM - Printed Solid: zen doesn't make anything. they buy in big spools from china.
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:59 AM - jbigler1986: figured so. lots do that and just rebrand it
Apr 29, 2015 at 5:59 AM - Printed Solid: they have pictures on their site. ginormous spools. then they respool. most just have someone extrude for them and put their own label on it.
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:00 AM - Printed Solid: Respooling is different entirely. potential for all kinds of different issues, but they seem to have a good enough rep.
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:00 AM - Printed Solid: alright. got to go.
    Apr 29, 2015 at 6:01 AM - jbigler1986: have a good one
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:02 AM - Stephen Capistron: i've burned through some hatchbox and that seemed fine, colorfabb is good (obv), and i've been pleased with the esun petg. I'm just a fan of petg in that it prints easier than abs , but has the temperature stability of abs
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:03 AM - jbigler1986: almost pulled the trigger on the blue petg until I saw it was a little translucent
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:04 AM - jbigler1986: I want a true blue that has high temp stability like abs
    Apr 29, 2015 at 6:04 AM - jbigler1986: but not abs
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:08 AM - Stephen Capistron: that is what i'm running right now, the translucent dark blue
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:09 AM - Stephen Capistron: matterhackers has some opaque pet+
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:09 AM - Stephen Capistron: i've never used it though
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:10 AM - jbigler1986: how translucent is the esun
Apr 29, 2015 at 6:11 AM - Stephen Capistron: fairly translucent
    Apr 29, 2015 at 6:16 AM - jbigler1986: i will wait and see what i can find
    Apr 29, 2015 at 6:42 AM - jbigler1986: is it 5 yet
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:00 AM - Shank: jb you on
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:02 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:02 AM - jbigler1986: what's up
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:03 AM - Shank: is there a dual fan/ e3d part out there to replace the part fan
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:04 AM - Bill Monroe: man.. hot cashews should be illegal
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:05 AM - jbigler1986: you have e3dv6?
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:05 AM - Shank: yes

    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:08 AM - jbigler1986: I have one that's like that for th e3dv6
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:08 AM - Stephen Capistron: boiled peanuts are gross
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:08 AM - jbigler1986: is that what you are wanting?
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:09 AM - Printed Solid: the only opaque PETs are XT and PET+
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:09 AM - Printed Solid: I mean opaque.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:09 AM - Shank: i printed that one and it doesnt fit the heatsink
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:10 AM - Printed Solid: moderator powers activate...
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:10 AM - jbigler1986: that's because that one is for the hex
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:10 AM - jbigler1986: I have one that is modified for e3d
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:11 AM - jbigler1986: @Printed what would you suggest then

Apr 29, 2015 at 7:11 AM - Printed Solid: for what?
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:11 AM - Printed Solid: an opaque PET? XT
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:11 AM - Bill Monroe: +1 on XT
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:11 AM - jbigler1986: high temp resistant like abs thats opaque
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:12 AM - Printed Solid: You could also do a nylon and dye it. I sent you a bit of 910, right?
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:12 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:12 AM - Printed Solid: high temp is still one place where ABS is good. the PETs get you up ~80C for heat deflection.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:13 AM - Shank: jb did you modify the part after you printed it or
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:13 AM - jbigler1986: No. It is designed for the e3d
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:14 AM - Shank: can i get that file from you?
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:14 AM - jbigler1986: Yeah ABS warps like mad though
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:14 AM - jbigler1986: It will have to be when I get home from work
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:15 AM - Shank: alright thanks
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:15 AM - jbigler1986: send me a PM so I can reply to it
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:16 AM - jbigler1986: XT has warping issues too right? at least the new formula seems too from what I have been seeing
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:17 AM - Printed Solid: XT is quite a bit lower warp than ABS. Higher than PLA.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:18 AM - Printed Solid: If you're making functional parts, selecting the right material is a bit of an art.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:20 AM - jbigler1986: Did you test the enclosure with ABS?
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:21 AM - Printed Solid: Mike has. I stopped using ABS before he released that enclosure. I have similar enclosures on my rep 1 that I used to print a ton of ABS on.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:21 AM - Printed Solid: It does make an enormous difference.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:23 AM - jbigler1986: hmmm. I am interested in one. Not sure if it's worth it to drop $90 on it though
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:23 AM - jbigler1986: I try to avoid ABS at all cost
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:24 AM - Printed Solid: ya. You can always just put a big box over the printer. Or now that it's getting warm, if you have a part of the house that gets really hot, just print there.
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:24 AM - jbigler1986: http://m.imgur.com/upload
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:24 AM - Bill Monroe: I actually has some really good results holding a heat gun on the print area bor ABS
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:24 AM - Printed Solid: FYI, design files are open source, so if you know a laser cutter or router, etc, you can make your own.
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:24 AM - jbigler1986: @Shank that's what the fan holder looks like
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:25 AM - jbigler1986: yeah blowing a little heater across the build area might be a good solution
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:25 AM - jbigler1986: or heat lamp maybe
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:25 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, maybe
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:25 AM - Shank: i cant open that
    Apr 29, 2015 at 7:26 AM - Bill Monroe: it was a spur-of-the-moment thing...
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:26 AM - jbigler1986: woops. it was a picture. one minute
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:26 AM - Printed Solid: Even just a high wattage incandescent bulb.
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:27 AM - Printed Solid: My shop is in a walled off section of my garage. When I did run ABS, I would turn off the AC and take the enclosure off in the summer. The room was around 115F. quality was just awesome.

Apr 29, 2015 at 7:28 AM - Stephen Capistron: doubles as a steam room too
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:28 AM - Printed Solid: I thought they ran those at 80C. no?
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:28 AM - Stephen Capistron: or sauna, whatever
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:29 AM - Stephen Capistron: bill what's with throwing out the old fahrenheit?
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:29 AM - Bill Monroe: i dunno.. I stuck a thermocouple in it once, wrote it down.. when I converted it I used the same temp
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:30 AM - Bill Monroe: Steve.. I'm american born and raised. My plane is in MPH, not knots. I speak F :)

Apr 29, 2015 at 7:42 AM - Bill Monroe: I love having that baby

Apr 29, 2015 at 7:46 AM - Bill Monroe: I take it to visit my mom, the inmates there really light up.. so many of those guys had them when they were young, the stories i get...
Apr 29, 2015 at 7:48 AM - jbigler1986: that would be a crime to but a stereo system in it
