    Hi all,

It has been awhile but my extruder head has failed extruding. It is factory spec and stopped half way through an 8 hour print. I cant unblock it but I know there is some upgraded ones available. Any suggestions? Thanks.

E3d v6 plus volcano with a .4 nozzle will let you master even the worst PLA. Might as well do them both at the same time. Volcano will also let you do way larger nozzles in the future.

    c'mon guys!

The E3D V6 suggestion is a good one, but you really should be able to unclog this easily enough. Crank up the heat to like 260, then you can probably just push it through. After that, try seasoning it with some canola oil.

@Printed Solid in our defense he did ask what head to switch to, not how to fix. However you are 100% correct.

    Thanks for that.

The plastic cooked and burnt in the head. I cleared but blocked straight away.

Just thought i was good reason to upgrade.

you could also just replace the brass nozzle instead of the whole head

i believe the e3d nozzle can fit in the hex head with care.

Where can you get the nozzle? I need about five on hand as they seem to have a life span of two weeks top

You shouldn't need to be changing or working on nozzles nearly that often, but having a spare or two on hand isn't a bad idea. We've got brass, hardened steel, and stainless authentic E3D V6 nozzles at printedsolid.com. under accessories.

Even after using very abrasive filaments I have replaced exactly two nozzles in as many years due to them wearing.

One thing to consider is that with some of the materials (the wood filament and metallic ones for examples) it is better and easier to use a larger bore nozzle (you will also get less wear).

I do all of those on the volcano usually with at least a 0.8 nozzle. The reduction in detail is not normally even a factor.

Dusty environments also wreak havoc on nozzles. Using a sponge filter helps
